Bundle up, Carson City. We aren’t afraid of a little wind, are we? The Dangberg Home Historic Ranch is celebrating our infamous Washoe Zephyr this weekend with kite making, demonstrations, and more. The Friends of the Silver Saddle Ranch would love to see you at their open house on Saturday; if you’re an early riser, join them on a 7 a.m. bird walk. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is hosting their annual Cops and Kids Open House, so head to the courthouse for some fun.

Washoe Lake State Park is the place for food, fun, information, and activities on Saturday. Across the freeway, you’ll find Civil War Day at the Bower’s Mansion Park with living history and some battles. Head up to Silver City for even more history: a recreation of the 1976 town photo, artifacts and memorabilia, and a showing of a documentary all about the life and times of Virginia City’s infamous Red Dog Saloon.

Glen Eagles is the place to be Saturday night. FISH’s annual Have a Heart Celebrity Waiter Celebration raises funds for the local non-profit’s food pantry, shelter, and more. Help the Carson High Cheerleaders by heading down to their ‘Drive one for your school’ event with Ford; all you need is a driver’s license. Running away from zombies helps out the Carson High Speech and Debate team: Escape from Carson High is sure to be a fun time.

It’s a good weekend for the arts. Consort Canzona presents a free concert on Sunday: “Madrigals and Dances: A Celebration of Renaissance Music.” The ‘Music Man’ wraps up its successful run at the Community Center. The talented drama students at Dayton Intermediate School are tackling Shakespeare’s Tempest (kinda). Ballet teams up with brews and brats in the Brewery Art Center’s Performance Hall. The Capital City Community Band performs old favorites at Western Nevada College. And you won’t want to miss the Zephyrus Brass Quintet on the Dangberg Ranch lawn.

Carson High School Culinary Arts and Early Childhood Education students competed at the three-day state conference last month for Nevada Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. This was the first time the school’s programs participated in the conference. A total of 25 students competed in eight events.

Family fun, lively bands and historical characters return to Dangberg Historic Park in Minden beginning in May. Favorite presenters, bands and Chautauquans will be joined by new ones as well.

Carson City’s former Board of Supervisor and business owner Stan Jones was posthumously awarded Thursday the Historic Preservation Award for his long time work for downtown Carson City.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office arrested three for their alleged involvement in business thefts last month on Topsy Lane south of Carson City.

The national issue of suicide — particularly among veterans — touched many people who attended the Walk for Hope on Wednesday morning at Western Nevada College in Carson City.

The new renovations at the Carson City Senior Center opened the opportunity to host art shows to extend enrichment to the senior community. Carson City Senior Center presents “Geographical Divides: Finding Common Ground,” featuring 16 artists who were asked to explore the geographical and cultural differences in Nevada, if such differences truly exist.

More than 48 Carson High School Future Business Leaders of America students attended the state conference in Sparks, Nev. this past week. In total, 38 of those students earned 74 “Top-10” placements in 30 separate events. Additionally, three CHS FBLA students took state with first-place finishes and 15 of them qualified for the National Business Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla. this coming June.

On Saturday, April 20, Carson City Community Gardeners and the UNR Extension Master Gardeners came together to get the Community Garden ready for the growing season. For two hours they removed weeds, spread mulch and prepped their garden beds for the season.
