Auditions for Proscenium Players '12 Angry Jurors' begin Sunday

Director Heidi Hampton has chosen to balance male and female roles and set the stage play, to be performed at the Silver State Charter School’s Performing Arts Theatre, in a time period when women were first allowed to sit on a jury.

Reid addresses Senate, supports ban on assault rifles, high-capacity magazines; wants improvements to mental health services

Harry Reid said Wednesday on the floor of the U.S. Senate that he supports an assault weapons ban, limits on high-capacity ammunition clips and polices to improve access to mental health services. He spoke of mass shootings that have happened across the country and close to home in Carson City.
"As the case of the Carson City, Nevada IHOP tragedy reveals, the deficiencies in this nation’s mental health treatment system are another important part of the discussion about how to prevent gun violence," Reid said on the Senate floor. "We have simply not done a good job of providing funding for and access to mental health services. We have also done a poor job of removing the stigma that keeps many Americas from seeking the treatment they need."

4. To fly from Indio to Big Bear (our first-ever visit there).

The Carson City Symphony, conducted by David Bugli, will perform "A Celebration in Two Sharps" on Sunday, April 28, 4 p.m., at the Carson City Community Center's Bob Boldrick Theater, 851 E. William Street. Guest soloist Stephen Framil will play the Cello Concerto by Antonín Dvořák.
The program also features Wagner's Overture to "Rienzi" and Schubert's "Unfinished" Symphony. All three compositions are associated with keys having two sharps, D major and B minor.

Set sail with a dimwitted captain at the helm, a perky activities director with a lustful itinerary and a wacky boatload of likely suspects on a murder mystery cruise that spoofs “The Love Boat.” The show pokes fun at crazy on-board activities and no-talent entertainers. In the end, someone is murdered and it’s up to the audience to guess the culprit.

Field, was the Co-Chair for Working Group II of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) which shared the 2007 Peace Prize with former Vice President Al Gore. He’s the director of the Department of Global Ecology, Carnegie Institution for Science at Stanford University and a 2009 Heinz Award recipient, recognizing extraordinary environmental achievement.

It’s Always Something Eventful in Carson City

While the BAC is open to other artists and arts organizations, as well as the general public for collaborations and to rent their facilities, a resident status may be offered to organizations who demonstrate sound business practices, financial strength, the ability to fill seats and, above all, artistic prowess. Both organizations will retain their independence and tax exempt, nonprofit status.

Kids! Audition Workshop August 21

Wild Horse Children’s Theater is presenting an audition workshop to help prepare young people (ages 8 and up) to audition confidently anywhere by strengthening audition and performance technique for musical theater. This is a great workshop if your child plans to audition for THE LITTLE MERMAID audition coming up in September. The workshop will be held Tuesday, August 21 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Performance Hall at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City.

July 9, 2012 (All day) On July 4, 2012, after 6 years as resident theater company at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada, Wild Horse Children's Theater was evicted from the museum via an email letter with no discussions or negotiations of the eviction. WHCT was asked to remove all theater items out in 30 days without an exploration of how the museum and WHCT might work together to unwind from this 6 year relationship by offering storage space until something else was secured and/or letting WHCT continue at least until the end of the year with the programming that was scheduled at the museum.

Sierra Recon, a high-energy, multi-distance obstacle race screaming the amped premise, “Everyone loves carnage” is set for July 14 at Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort, while the Lake Tahoe Adventure Motorcycle Ride and Rendezvous celebrates the freedom of the wide open road, Aug. 23-26.
