She will read from her collection at two venues in June: the Mile High Jazz Band’s Jazz and Poetry event at Comma Coffee in Carson City on June 11, 7:30 p.m., and the Ventana Sierra Advanced Writers Conference at Western Nevada College in Carson City on June 14 at 6:30 p.m.

The book is published by The Black Rock Press, University of Nevada, Reno, 2013.

Legendary rock band War to headline Concert Under the Stars to benefit Carson City Greenhouse Project

Legendary rock band “War” will headline this summer’s Concert Under the Stars taking place Tuesday, July 9 outdoors behind Café at Adele’s. The annual event benefits Carson City’s Greenhouse Project. The gates open at 5 p.m. and the music begins at 6:30 p.m.

In a career that has spanned more than four decades War has sold more than 50 million albums. The band’s unique mix of Funk, Jazz, R&B and Rock and Roll has produced numerous top ten singles including “Low Rider”, “Cisco Kid”, “Why Can’t We be Friends” and many more.

At least 350 attended Saturday night's Winter Wine and All That Jazz at the Carson Nugget Ballroom in Carson City. The wine tasting and jazz event was a fundraiser for the Brewery Arts Center. Attendees sipped, sampled and tasted more than 40 wines from around the region, listened to great jazz and even danced into the evening.

Hundreds show for Carson Nugget's 58th Thanksgiving community dinner

It was a happy, hearty Thanksgiving in Carson City for hundreds of Carson Nugget guests who arrived for the 58th annual free community dinner. Volunteers by the dozens served everyone who walked in the door — from young families to senior citizens and all ages in between.

Strings in the Schools, Carson City Symphony's after-school program, presents its third annual "This is Not a Christmas Concert" on Tuesday, December 4, 6:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St., Carson City.

About 80 string players, including Carson City public-, private-, and home-schooled students, and students from surrounding areas, will perform several pieces, from classics to folk and fiddle tunes, including Pachelbel's Canon in D, Lackawanna Locomotive, and Japanese Hoedown. Admission is free.

Carson City Symphony Concert 'Scandinavia and All That Jazz' set for Sunday

The Carson City Symphony, directed by David Bugli, will open its 29th season on Sunday, 4 p.m., with a concert, "Scandinavia and All That Jazz," at the Carson City Community Center's Bob Boldrick Theater, 851 E. William Street in Carson City.

After the first half of the concert, harmonica player Tom Stryker will lead a harmonica workshop for youth attending the concert. Each will be given a harmonica and learn to play a tune. After intermission, they will perform on stage.

US Air Force Travis Brass to present free Carson City concert Sept. 16

Travis Brass, the resident brass quintet of the US Air Force Band of the Golden West from Travis AFB, Calif., will present a free concert on Sunday, Sept. 16th at 4 pm at the Carson City Community Center. Travis Brass consists of five full-time active duty professional musicians working in support of Air Mobility Command and the US Air Force. From a standard march or traditional brass composition to jazz, ragtime and patriotic selections, Travis Brass’ diverse repertoire covers a myriad of styles with something to please everyone.

Millennium Bugs to Perform Sept. 7 at Silver Oak in Carson City

The Millennium Bugs, a five-piece combo affiliated with the Mile High Jazz Band, will perform on Friday, Sept. 7, 7:00 to 10 p.m., at Silver Oak Golf Club and Event Center, 1251 Country Club Drive, Carson City. Admission is free.
The musicians are Gil Linsley, trumpet; Dan Lancaster, sax, flute, clarinet; David Bugli, keyboard; Charles DiLaura, bass; and Neil Strocchio, drums. The group plays a variety of jazz styles for listening and dancing.  

Strings in the Schools program begins Sept. 5

Carson City Symphony's comprehensive program of string instruction begins the first week of September, after school, at three schools in Carson City. Strings in the Schools, directed by the Symphony's Education Director, Sue Jesch, provides free beginning violin lessons for students grades 2-5 and ensemble/orchestra experience for string students in all grades. Tuition and books are subsidized by the Carson City Symphony Association.

Jazz All-Stars Display at Carson City Library until August 31

An exhibit of photos, album covers, and information about Jazz All-Stars of Northern Nevada, is on display at the Carson City Library, 900 N. Roop Street. The exhibit is part of Mile High Jazz Band's 2012 Jazz & Beyond - Carson City Music Festival. Although festival musical performances have ended, the exhibit will continue during library hours until August 31.

Notch 8 plays tonight as series continues at Cafe at Adele's

The second show of the 10th annual Summer Concerts on the Veranda Series takes place tonight at Café at Adele’s. The music plays every Thursday through Sept. 13, from 6 to 9:30 p.m.
Offering a line-up that ranges from jazz and world music to American rock and country, this season showcases some of the best talent from Nevada and California.
"Each year, the concert series has grown and we have enjoyed a wide range of music by talented performers, all of whom bring something special to the table," said Charlie Abowd, chef and co-owner of Cafe at Adele's.

The summer sizzles as the Mile High Jazz Band Association, Carson City, local businesses and jazz lovers proudly present the 2012 "Jazz & Beyond" Carson City Music Festival, an annual event that began in August 2004. Introduction to Acoustic Music and Singing (For ages 6 and up)

Students will follow the development of genres such as the blues, bluegrass, Celtic music, gospel, jazz, Latin, and traditional folk music through presentations and demonstrations. Services for legendary radio commentator Travus T. Hipp will be held this Saturday, May 26, in Silver City. Hipp died early Friday morning, May 18, at his Silver City home. He was 75, as old as the Golden Gate Bridge in his beloved San Francisco.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 26, in Silver City. Gathering, gnoshing and remembering will begin at the Silver City Community Center, 385 High Street, at 10:00 a.m. Food and refreshments will be provided. Those who wish may bring more.

The festival, which began in 2004, is presented by Mile High Jazz Band Association, Carson City, local businesses, and jazz lovers. It includes more than 100 world class, regional musicians in over 30 performances and special programs at multiple venues in Carson City’s historic district, near the foothills of the Sierra Nevada.
