Carson City residents Joseph and Amelia Handschuh officially cut the ribbon on their new downtown lifestyle boutique, Kitsch Carson, last Thursday, June 11.

Located at 206 N. Carson St., the grand opening event drew a strong community turnout and featured early shopping, refreshments, and a raffle for a $100 gift certificate.

They were also able to showcase the renovation of the historic building, which received a full revamp by the couple to restore much of its original charm.

Prior to the opening, the Handschuhs’  renovations included removing the office-style drop ceilings, unveiling hardwood floors, and scraping decades of paint from upper-level windows to maximize natural light.

Amelia thanked the community for their support, and said the grand opening had a “wonderful turnout.”

“It has been a wonderful whirlwind with such positive feedback,” she said about the store’s launch, and the support from the community in the weeks leading up to it.

Kitsch Carson offers a curated selection of vintage home furnishings, local art, and size-inclusive apparel made from sustainable materials such as cotton, linen, and wool. The inventory also features custom stone furniture crafted by Joseph made from reclaimed stone fragments to keep them out of landfills.

Amelia previously described the atmosphere as a mix between a Ralph Lauren catalog and a Nancy Meyers film, leaning heavily into heritage Americana and academia aesthetics.

Kitsch Carson is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday.

However, they’ll be holding extended hours this weekend for the Taste of Downtown for those sampling snacks along Carson Street.
