CARSON CITY — The Carson Water Subconservancy District, a multi-county and bi-state agency promoting cooperative action in the Carson River Watershed, has launched its November Watershed Moment public service announcement “Engage In Your Watershed” which highlights how volunteerism and citizen involvement can improve the health and water quality of the Carson River Watershed.

The Carson River Coalition’s virtual Watershed Wednesdays Forum continues this week on March 10 with a session highlighting recreation in our region. Participants will find 2-1/2 hours of dynamic presentations from 8 speakers championing recreation in the Carson River Watershed.

Hello fellow anglers, I have to tell you that some boaters still have not taken a boater's safety course, by the actions I witnessed two weeks ago.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection announced Tuesday that it has received $1 million in Clean Water Act grant funds provided by the U.S Environmental Protection Agency that will be used to complete 11 projects to reduce “nonpoint source pollution” and improve water quality across the state.

It was an eventful year around the Carson City region notwithstanding the limitations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Here's some notable stories that were not pandemic related that happened in 2020.

The 121st annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count will be held this Saturday Jan. 2, 2021. This event is counting all birds with a 15 mile diameter circle covering the area contained approximately by the Carson River on the north, the Pine Nut foothills on the East, Bodie Flats on the South and Foothill Road on the West.

A 30-year-old Carson City man was arrested Dec. 11 for suspicion of felony drug charges and being a person prohibited to be in possession of a firearm, a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report states.

Hello fellow anglers. A very Happy Fishmas to you all. The weather is finally changing into winter coldness, but hopefully we will get some precipitation to boost up our snow pack for a long spring and summer runoff and a good fishing experience for 2021.

Renee and I stayed home and connected with family and friends via text or telephone. I am slowly coming into the 21st century of technology, but fishing will always be old school in my book.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region. The November Gobble Wine Walk kicks off in downtown Carson City followed by a new “Paths and Pedals” bike tour. Sierra Lutheran High School is also hosting a Christmas craft fair on Saturday. Combined with live music and virtual events, there’s plenty of activity happening in the state capital! The Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department opened three new segments of trail following an Oct. 30 ribbon cutting. These fun new trails are part of a network of non-motorized paths that connect residents with almost 5,000 acres of Carson City Parks and Open Space within the Carson River/Prison Hill area. Future plans include completing a multi-use path around Prison Hill.

Heading into the final weekend of October, Halloween and Nevada Day events will keep revelers busy through Sunday making for a jam packed weekend of fun for families and grownups around the Carson City region.

Local non-profit GREENevada announced Thursday the winners of the 2020 Golden Pinecone Sustainability Awards, a prestigious annual event recognizing local individuals and organizations working towards a more sustainable Nevada.

Celebrating Halloween in Carson City is really unlike any other place because the holiday sometimes lands on the same day as many Nevada Day festivities are underway. To have a more organized and safe Halloween for children, Carson City will again host its "BOOnanza" celebration this Thursday, and the Children's Museum will host a safe trick or treating event Friday.
