Two men were arrested early Friday morning in the 1800 block of Long Street in Carson City and face multiple charges, including battery on police officers and resisting arrest. A 20-year-old Carson City man later told officers both had been under the influence of LSD and marijuana.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to the area of 1800 East Long Street late Thursday night after reports came in of a man screaming and stating he had a bloody nose.

Lyon County will receive $1.9 million from the U.S. Department of Interior for revenue generated on public land, Sen. Harry Reid announced Thursday. Douglas County will receive $615,397 and Carson City $116,138.

Statewide funds totaling $23.3 million will be received from from the Department, which collects about $14 billion in revenue annually from commercial activities on federal lands, such as oil and gas leasing, livestock grazing and timber harvesting.

Nevada Congressman Mark Amodei offered a successful amendment on Tuesday to the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs Appropriations bill for next year, which would shift $44 million for mandatory overtime to the VA Regional Offices with the worst disability claims backlogs — greater than 365 days.

Of the 15 VAROs on the list, Reno’s backlog, with an average claims process of 504 days, is the second worst in the nation behind Los Angeles (576 days). The amendment passed the House by a bipartisan vote of 248 to 172.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office is looking for an older model Chevy or Ford pickup that slammed through an iron fence into the patio area of Firkin and Fox early Sunday morning causing extensive damage.

Video surveillance shows the event happening at 3:02 a.m. The pickup is described as a yellow 1970s or early 1980s model Chevy or Ford, in good condition, with a white or cream stripe and chrome highlights. The vehicle should have driver side front and front quarter panel damage.

Each year people across the country participate in Relay for Life to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. This year one local team is taking a creative approach to raise money and awareness.

A 23-year-old Carson City woman faces murder charges following the death of an 18-month-old toddler, Justin Watson, in November 2012.

Brittany Michelle Paugh turned herself into the Carson City Sheriff's Office Thursday. She is being held without bail. Charges include first degree murder, child abuse, child abuse causing death, second degree murder with child neglect and child abuse with substantial harm. The toddler died of significant trauma to the brain.

Sheriff Ken Furlong said the arrest came after an extensive investigation that involved medical specialists outside the state.

Introducing Grace Works, or as others have called it “The Church has left the Building!” This is a Sunday when area churches show God’s love through providing services, rather than going to services. It is an event that has been going on in several other communities across the US, involving thousands of people on a given Sunday. The First Presbyterian Church started it here in Carson City two years ago; last year Ministerios Una Puerta Al Camino ( The Church of the Door to the Way) joined them. Over 150 people participated.

Commonly known as “fracking,” hydraulic fracturing is a process in which an amalgam of water, sand and chemicals is pressurized and injected into the ground to break up rock formations. Fracking can be used in the retrieval of natural gas and oil from deep beneath the earth’s surface, which is exactly what Houston-based Noble Energy Inc. intends to do in Elko County.

Boaters planning to launch at Lake Tahoe over Memorial Day Weekend are reminded to arrive at one of five watercraft inspection stations clean, drained and dry in order to get through the inspection process and out on the water more quickly.

All boats entering Lake Tahoe without a Lake Tahoe wire inspection seal are required to go through a mandatory inspection and purchase an inspection sticker as part of the public, private, multi-agency effort to protect Lake Tahoe from aquatic invasive species (AIS). The Vietnam Veterans of America, Carson City Area Chapter 388 invite you attend a Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 27, beginning at 11 AM at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley.

The service will be an hour long. Immediately following the service, there will be an unveiling of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The shrine lists the names of 151 young men from Nevada who gave their lives in Vietnam. Adjacent to that are the names of eight nurses who also gave their lives in Vietnam while they were there caring for our troops.

A Care Flight helicopter was ordered Wednesday after a motorcycle crashed in the southbound lane of the Carson City freeway near the off ramp at College Parkway. The accident was reported at around 1:40 p.m.

The condition of the motorcyclist is unknown. According to emergency dispatchers via scanner a motorist called 911 for help after the motorcyclist was reportedly found in rocks on the side of the road.

Signups continue for the 19th Gourmand Golf Scramble set for Sunday, June 2 at Eagle Valley West Golf Course. The tournament returns after a year hiatus and is sponsored by The Cracker Box, Café at Adele’s and Js’ Old Town Bistro. The tournament benefits the Community Counseling Center of Carson City. The latest legislative funding proposals for Nevada’s rural community colleges will do serious harm to the economic development work now employed through a partnership between Northern Nevada Development Authority and Western Nevada College.

Saturday’s committee vote in the Nevada Legislature would result in a General Fund cut of 11.42 percent in the budget of Western Nevada College. This comes on top of more than 27 percent in reductions over the past five years, which led to a significant loss of academic programs, faculty, staff, and services.

A bill that would allow schools to obtain and administer auto-injectable epinephrine in the event of a student having a food allergy attack has cleared committee and is on its way to the General Assembly this week.

While it hasn't gotten a lot of press attention and isn't shrouded in controversy, SB453 is designed to protect children at school if they suffer from a food allergy attack or are stung by a bee and have an allergic reaction.

On April 27th approximately 80 entrants competed in the Annual Geocache Adventure to help raise funds for the purchase of improved radio equipment for the unit. Entrants of all ages, using GPS and maps competed in a modern day treasure hunt in various public areas of Carson City.

Participants located tokens that were redeemed for poker hands and prizes at Bully’s after the event.
