The traditional lighting of the Christmas trees – both State and City – has been on-going here in the capital city for well over 22 years. This year, Silver & Snowflakes Holiday Tree Lighting is becoming a new tradition, Silver & Snowflakes Festival of Lights and it begins on Friday evening, December 2nd.

Amodei Will Run For Re-Election, Touts Accomplishments In First 55 Days In Congress

RENO – Rep. Mark Amodei, R-Nev., made it official today, saying he will run for a full-term in District 2 in the 2012 election.
Amodei, on a tour of his district with his Washington, DC staff in tow, made the unsurprising announcement at an open house in his new Reno office in the Bruce Thompson federal building here. Amodei will also visit Elko and Winnemucca on his trip and return to Washington on Sunday.

Gov. Sandoval speaks at Sierra Lutheran High School ceremony

Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval commended Sierra Lutheran High School's strong academic program and its overall approach to education during his special address at the school's Campus Consecration & Open House event yesterday.

Before an estimated audience of over 400 students, parents, and community members, Sandoval traced SLHS's success to the words of Matthew 7:24, "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock."

Nevada State DARE Officer Conference Begins Monday

Carson City Sheriff’s Office was selected by the Nevada DARE Officer Association (NDOA) as an “Agency of Choice” and will host the Nevada State DARE Officer Conference May 2-5, 2011. DARE Officers representing law enforcement agencies from across the state will be participating in a variety of training activities that will enhance classroom skills, update DARE lessons, and to discuss current prevention issues. The event is sponsored by Northern Nevada Coin, Fandango, and Carson Station, with additional funding through Justice Assistance Grant.

Sixth Annual Science Expo at Lake Tahoe coming in March

The UC Davis’s Tahoe Environmental Research Center (TERC) in partnership with the Tahoe Expedition Academy (TEA) will host the sixth annual Science Expo on March 16.

The fair features interactive experiments and demonstrations for children from the third to sixth grade, ages 8 to 12 and their families. The event is free and will run from 4 – 6 p.m. at the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences in Incline Village. Ice cream will be provided by Susie Scoops of Incline Village and UC Davis TERC.

Carson Lanes Open House Continues Through Sunday in Carson City

This weekend Carson Lanes invites the public to an open house to celebrate new changes that were made. The open house is filled with contests, a bounce house, games and live music.

The open house began Saturday morning with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Tonight, Saturday, the Band Intent will play through 11:30 p.m. in the Eleventh Frame Winners Lounge.

The first Northern Nevada RC Air Show hosted by the High Sierra RC Club took place Saturday at the Pony Express Model Airpark.

Radio Control Clubs from all over Northern Nevada participated in the event The High Sierra RC Club, Reno Radio Control Club, Sierra Silent Soarers, Reno Sparks Control Liners Model Airplane Club and Sierra Sagebrush Flyers.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office will host the Nevada State DARE Officer Conference June 8-9. It is the second time Carson City has been selected to host the annual event, which brings DARE officers together from around the state to discuss programs, curriculum and prevention issues.
There will be around 35 officers who will attend the Carson City event.
