Care Flight responds after traffic accident at Flint Drive and Highway 50
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 05/24/2013 - 4:23pmA Care Flight air ambulance was ordered following a vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 50 and Flint Drive in Carson City.
At least three people are reported injured in the Friday afternoon accident. One person was to be taken by Care Flight and two others were be transported by ground ambulance to Renown Medical Center.
Highway 50 near the accident scene was reduced to one lane and shut down at Flint. The Nevada Highway Patrol, the Carson City Sheriff's Office and Carson City Fire Department were called to the accident scene, reported shortly after 4 p.m.

Carson City man jailed after officers find meth stashed in toy action figure
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 05/24/2013 - 12:42pmA 25-year-old Carson City man faces felony drug charges after a vehicle search netted, among other things, methamphetamine that was stashed inside a toy action figure.
Officers arrested Jesse Silis-Teran at 5:35 p.m. Thursday near Humboldt and Long streets. According to the arrest report, officers patrolling the area heard a group of people yelling at each other and met with three individuals at a parked car.

Military Aircraft and Vehicle Museum to Open in Carson City

Cactus Air Force’s “Wings and Wheels Museum” will be a nonprofit, public museum dedicated to celebrating aviation and military history through preserving, restoring, displaying and use of US military aircraft and vehicles from WWII to present.
Car flips during street race near Fremont Elementary School, teens cited
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 05/20/2013 - 4:49pmA high school student was uninjured Monday after the vehicle he was driving flipped on its hood during a street race with another student that ended near Fremont Elementary School, a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy said.
The rollover was on Saliman Road between Depot and Little streets a few hundred feet away from the elementary school, which was in session at the time, said Carson City Sheriff's Deputy Matt Smith.
The juvenile and another Carson High student, both teen boys of driving age, were cited and released to their parents. The wreck was reported at 1:41 p.m.

Man jailed for indecent exposure after allegedly urinating near door of casino
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 05/20/2013 - 2:55pmA 33-year-old Carson City man faces a gross misdemeanor charge of indecent exposure after allegedly urinating near the west door entrance of a Carson City casino early Monday morning.
Officers were called to the casino, located in the 2700 block of East William Street, at 2:40 a.m. after security reported an intoxicated man who wouldn't leave the premise. Two witnesses noted the man urinated on the side of the building, and it was also seen on casino surveillance.

Man jailed for waving machete in dispute over Jeep
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 05/17/2013 - 10:43amA Carson City man faces a felony charge of assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly swinging a machete in a dispute with his brother and another man over a vehicle.
Jesus Guardron-Patino was jailed May 14 after being arrested at 9:25 p.m. in the 200 block of Jeanell Drive.
According to the arrest report, officers responded to the area after a report called in of a man hitting the ground and a brick building with a sword. Officers detained Guardron-Patino and made contact with two men, one of whom is the brother of Guardron-Patino.

Carson City men jailed after getting into fight over marijuana deal gone bad
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 05/14/2013 - 11:48amTwo Carson City men were arrested and face felony drug and weapons charges after fighting each other over a marijuana drug deal that soured.
Bob L. Cryderman, 56, and Vincent Morenz, 49, were arrested in the 600 block of South Roop Street on May 10 at 8:37 p.m. According to the arrest report, officers responded to the Roop address on a report of battery with a deadly weapon. Upon arrival officers met with Cryderman in an apartment who appeared moderately battered. He stated that he was attacked and beaten by Morenz who lived in a nearby apartment and that Morenz took his .38 revolver.

Ex-convict jailed for violating conditions of parole from prison

Matthew Michael Ramos was jailed without bail, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office arrest report. The State of Nevada warrant for his arrest was issued Sept. 13, 2012 for failure to comply with conditions laid out when he was granted parole on March 19, 2012.

Carson City prison escapee convicted of federal firearm possession
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 05/03/2013 - 2:00amA 48-year-old man who escaped the Nevada Correctional Facility in Carson City months before it was permanently closed was convicted in federal court Thursday of being a felon in possession of a firearm, said U.S. Attorney Benjamin Wagner. He faces a maximum of 10 years in prison.
Christopher Lee Lang, 48, of Grass Valley, Calif. entered a guilty plea before U.S. District Court Judge Morrison C. England, according to a news release.

Semi overturns blocking I-580 freeway at Highway 50 ramp
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 05/02/2013 - 8:36amUPDATE 11:40AM: A semi truck overturned on the northbound ramp of the Carson City Freeway, I-580 at Highway 50, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. The accident was reported to NHP at 8:27 a.m. and the driver of the truck wasn't hurt.
A preliminary investigation indicates a 2006 GMC vehicle hauler was hauling a 2003 Kaufa vehicle trailer with two vehicles on board, said NHP Trooper Barbara Stapleton.

Heather Lee Williams was jailed April 27, 9 p.m. in the area of 400 Saliman Road. When Carson City sheriff patrol officers arrived they found Williams fighting with the security officers, screaming and yelling and clutching a cigarette package. Inside the cigarette package was methamphetamine.

Marlena Acosta, 27, faces the felony charge, and a misdemeanor charge of obstructing an officer, after Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies learned March 5 that a check issued to the woman from FISH for $12 — to be used to obtain a Nevada identification card from the DMV — had been altered to $120 and cashed.

Carson City deputies make several court warrant arrests
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 04/24/2013 - 5:07pmCarson City sheriff's deputies have made several court violation arrests since Monday. The arrests have been both misdemeanor and felony related. Arrests have also been made that involved domestic abuse, theft, driving under the influence of drugs and huffing.
Deputies arrested a 28-year-old transient with outstanding felony and gross misdemeanor warrants. Melanie Huddleston, was arrested early Wednesday morning, 3:16 a.m. at a casino in the 3800 block of Highway 50 East.

Washoe Valley teen gravely injured in Pleasant Valley rollover

As of Wednesday morning, Heather Brown, 17, is on an artificial life-support system at Renown Regional Medical Center as result of the extensive injuries she suffered in Tuesday's accident, said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen.

Carson City woman with stun gun in her purse jailed on felony drug charges

Patricia Louise Barkley, was arrested at 12:11 p.m. April 20 on East Nye. According to the arrest report, officers stopped a vehicle based on information that the owner faced a warrant for his arrest.

Carson City search and rescue find body in overturned SUV up Ash Canyon

The incident is believed to be suicide after receiving reports the person had said they were going to end their life, the sheriff added.
Carson City fire and rescue, search and rescue and sheriff's office patrol deputies made their way up Ash Canyon Sunday afternoon after the over-turned SUV-type vehicle was found. The body inside the vehicle was said to require extrication.

Authorities search for man driving dark mini-van who approached boy walking to school
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 04/17/2013 - 6:01pmA young boy walking to Seeliger Elementary School in Carson City was approached by a man Wednesday morning who was driving an older-model mini-van, now being sought after by authorities.
The juvenile was walking north on Saliman Road Wednesday morning and was approached by the man at around 8:05 a.m., between Kingsley Lane and Sonoma Street, said Sgt. Earl Mays.
Carson City sheriff's patrol officers are looking for a dark or navy blue minivan and the driver, described as a white male in his mid 30s with short dark hair and sideburns.

Carson City man jailed on felony domestic battery charge

Richard Scott Morris was arrested at 6:27 p.m. in the 800 block of North Carson Street. According to the booking report, officers were dispatched to a residence for a reported domestic battery.
On arrival officers met with the victim who told them that Morris had physically battered and strangled her with his hands. Officers observed numerous injuries to the victim's face and neck, the arrest report states.

NHP to launch Zero-Tolerance Enforcement Week; aims stop drivers using cell phones

Troopers around the Silver State are still continuing to observe motorists texting, talking, and reading non-voice communications despite the fact this behavior became illegal over 15 months ago.

Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies had been searching for the man since Thursday night and found him hiding inside a school bus in the vehicle maintenance yard of Carson High School. Edward Carol, 31, was taken into custody at 5:24 p.m.

Navy vessel to be named USNS Carson City; Secretary praises capital city and Nevada

Nevada Sen. Harry Reid and Congressman Mark Amodei were both informed this week of the USNS Carson City decision by Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus during a meeting in the U.S. Capitol.

Derrick B. Kennedy, 40, was wanted by the Carson City Sheriff's Office after he allegedly hit his wife with a steam cleaning vacuum, held her down in a choke hold and spit in her face, put her head through the couple's bathroom door and attempted to stab her with a knife, according to the arrest report.

Carson City woman jailed for DUI drugs, felony battery after vehicle collision

Lisa Spangenthal, age not provided, was booked into Carson City Jail after being arrested at 1:47 p.m. She also faces a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of drugs.
According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to the incident that involved an Oldsmobile Cutlass and a 2011 Hyundai. The Hyundai had major front end damage on the passenger side.

Charity Lynn Rasmussen was arrested Friday, April 5, in the 3200 block of Market Street. According to the arrest report, a patrol officer making a routine registration check stopped a vehicle after dispatch advised the license plates on the vehicle were confirmed as stolen.

Carson City authorities search for missing state employee; disappearance appears suspicious

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong reports William McCune, 62, a resident of an apartment complex on Silver Oak Drive is missing and the circumstances are suspicious.
McCune's vehicle, a 2000 maroon Dodge pickup, is missing and there appears to have been some kind of struggle in the man's apartment. The apartment appeared to be ransacked and blood was found.

That trout-filled reservoir is a mere 39 miles from our front door and it is easily reached from here by two different directions:

DUI stops make up bulk of recent Carson City arrests

A 47-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 2200 block of East William Street and faces a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence. According to the arrest report, officers called to a casino at around 1 a.m. after a witness reported an intoxicated man was seen getting inside a truck and preparing to drive.

Carson City man jailed on rape charge; bail set at $100,000
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 04/01/2013 - 2:12pmA 34-year-old Carson City man is being held on $100,000 bail and faces a felony charge of rape. Juan Hugo Rodriguez-Ramirez was arrested Friday, March 29, 7:35 p.m. in the 1300 block of North Edmonds.
He is accused of sexually assaulting a female victim on March 29. The victim, whose age was not provided, also told authorities that she was sexually assaulted on March 26 in Pomona, Calif., and on one other occasion, according to the arrest report. The victim was interviewed by detectives at Carson Tahoe Hospital.

Minden man jailed for making bomb threat, DUI at Stateline, Lake Tahoe

At 10:58 p.m. a Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a black Dodge SRT8 at Hwy 50 and Kahle Drive, said Sgt. Pat Brooks.
The driver, Adam Smith, 29, of Minden was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. At the time, Deputies noticed a wire from the front seat to the trunk. They asked Smith about the wire and, he told them, “It’s a bomb.”

Carson City man jailed; accused of beating and choking pregnant girlfriend

Aaron Patrick Allen Lane, 38, was arrested at 12:42 a.m. in the 2400 block of Poole Way. Lane also faces a misdemeanor charge out of Walker River Township for failure to pay fines associated with domestic battery.

Putting Main Street on a Road Diet

The presentation outlined a proposal to create a pedestrian-friendly environment on Carson Street through the downtown area of Carson City between Fifth Street and Ann Street. This Road Diet, as they are commonly called, would include using striping to reduce travel lanes from four to two, and add on-street parallel parking.

March 28, 2013 - 12:00pm The OverDrive Digital Bookmobile National Tour will showcase the free eBook/audiobook download service offered by the Carson City Library, 900 North Roop Street on Thursday, March 28, from noon to 6 p.m.
Readers of all ages will learn how to download eBooks and audiobooks from the library through interactive demonstrations and high-definition instructional videos. A “gadget gallery” featuring Kindle, iPod touch, Android tablet, NOOK, Sony Reader, Blackberry, Windows Phone, and more will help visitors discover portable devices that are compatible with the library’s download service.
Pedestrian struck and killed in Carson City identified as Celeste Santens
