Climate change: Is it real? Yes! Is there something that you can do? Yes! A few years ago I became more aware and concerned about our environment. My concern was elevated based upon what I was reading, hearing and witnessing.

Weather Service warns of dangerous blizzard conditions in Sierra, heavy snow for Carson City area

Though the skies around Carson City were blue Tuesday morning, a winter storm is on the way, with various warnings for Lake Tahoe and the Sierra, as well as down to the valley floors around the Carson City area.

The National Weather Service in Reno warns that if you have to travel into the Sierra, do so early Tuesday as conditions will rapidly change Tuesday evening.

Light snow around Carson City and lower valleys, stronger system to arrive late Tuesday

With anywhere from a light dusting in the capital city to an inch or more from Reno into Washoe Valley, winter weather has arrived again, with a strong system shaping up to drop several feet of snow in the Sierra and several inches along the valley floors, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

Record number of Bald Eagles spotted during 2021 annual Tahoe count

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — It’s a banner year for Bald Eagles in Lake Tahoe. The Tahoe Institute of Natural Science reports that a record number of 42 Bald Eagles were spotted during its annual survey. The previous high was 27 set in 2017.

High Wind Warning issued for Lake Tahoe and Sierra, blustery conditions expected in lower valleys

Hello fellow anglers! As we welcomed in 2021, many anglers ascended on Topaz Lake to bring in the new year. I and fellow angler Tom Blotter were amongst the many.

At 6 a.m. Tom and I were on the lake waiting for the official start time. There was an eerie fog-like mist lingering over the lake. It was a cool 18 degrees, and the winds were calm. Our first line went into the water at 6:33 a.m. and the first strike came at 7 a.m.

Forest Service extends closures on developed campgrounds in California due to COVID concerns

USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region has decided to extend the developed campground closure on 12 National Forests in California to provide consistent COVID-19 mitigation response in accordance with Gov. Gavin Newsom’s Stay-at-Home Orders. These Regional Orders will be in effect through Jan. 29, 2021.

Lake Tahoe prescribed fire operations resume

The Tahoe Fire and Fuels Team will resume prescribed fire operations this week in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Operations will continue over the next several weeks, conditions and weather permitting. Smoke may be visible.

Nevada receives $1 million in grants to improve water quality, reduce pollution

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection announced Tuesday that it has received $1 million in Clean Water Act grant funds provided by the U.S Environmental Protection Agency that will be used to complete 11 projects to reduce “nonpoint source pollution” and improve water quality across the state.
