Carson City Symphony Association announces Carson Chamber Singers director

Carson City Symphony Association is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard “Ricky” Hutton as Director of Carson Chamber Singers. His connection with the Carson Chamber Singers goes back to the summer of 2019, when he directed the Singers in the June Pops Party concert in Carson City and the July 4th concert in Genoa.

Nevada Humanities Announces Nature-Themed Books for 2021 Nevada Reads Program

Nevada Humanities has announced the book selections for its statewide 2021 Nevada Reads program. Nevada Reads will feature two memoirs — Miracle Country: A Memoir by Kendra Atleework, and World of Wonders: In Praise of Fireflies, Whale Sharks, and Other Astonishments by Aimee Nezhukumatathil.

Nevada artists have until Jan. 29 to apply for NAC’s Artist Relief Grant program

CARSON CITY — Nevada artists who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic may apply through Jan. 29, 2021, for a $1,000 grant to be used to alleviate financial pressures due to COVID-19. Properly completed applications for the Fiscal Year 2021 Artist Relief Grant program will be entered into a process for randomized selection. If application requests exceed funding available, the Nevada Arts Council will prioritize geographic diversity and underserved populations.

Reno native Dawn Wells who played Mary Ann on 'Gilligan's Island' dies of COVID complications

Reno native Dawn Wells, who starred as Mary Ann in the popular 1960s sitcom “Gilligan’s Island,” died Wednesday of causes related to COVID-19 in Los Angeles, according to her publicist. She was 82.

Carson City Symphony Association's 'Joyful Noise, A Holiday Treat' concert video streaming now

The Carson City Symphony Association presentation of “Joyful Noise — A Holiday Treat” concert is available for viewing on the Carson City Symphony channel on YouTube here and from Facebook.com/CarsonCitySymphony here. The concert features John and Cherie Shipley with their Joyful Noise Chorus and Band. They have been performing "Joyful Noise" concerts each December since 2002.

Carson City Symphony announces Project Euterpe Episode 11 with Carson Chamber Singers

Carson City Symphony Association announces release of Project Euterpe Episode 11 featuring the Carson Chamber Singers, an affiliate of the Carson City Symphony, performing "Hodie Christus natus est," by Dutch composer, organist, and teacher Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck. Choral Director Richard "Ricky" Hutton leads the 27 singers and brass quintet.

Call to artists: Carson Valley art studio tour 2021

Carson Valley is putting on a show, and we don’t just mean our glorious Fall colors! The Carson Valley Arts Council is hosting the first annual Carson Valley Art Studio Tour next October 2021, and they are seeking input from interested fine artists at this time. All fine art media will be considered, and shared studio space will be coordinated by the CVAST team.

Renowned Composer, Sonatherapist, and Ordained Minister Reverend Dr. Gary Robert Buchanan Dies at 72

Reverend Dr. Gary Robert Buchanan, local composer, conductor, Sonatherapist, minister at the International Community of Christ, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away on October 16, 2020, after a year-long fight against cancer. He is survived by his wife Amanda Buchanan, sons Bradley Buchanan of Ventura, California, and Kym Buchanan of Wisconsin, daughter Amy Buchanan-Rodriquez of Reno, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Gov. Sisolak proclaims October Arts and Humanities Month in Nevada

Recognizing the cultural and economic impact the arts community makes in the Silver State, Gov. Steve Sisolak has proclaimed October to be Arts and Humanities Month in Nevada.

Arts and humanities strengthen the Nevada economy by generating $8.7 billion in total economic activity annually and by supporting more than 40,900 Nevada workers, according to data from the Nevada Arts Council, a state agency that works to make the arts accessible to all Nevadans. Carson City’s Jazz & Beyond 2020 Music and Art Festival Update

The Jazz & Beyond festival committee is rescheduling many of the events originally planned for August 2020 because of the recent rise in coronavirus cases. However, the committee plans to go ahead with the second annual Open Studios Tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, and Sunday, August 23. Admission is free.

Nevada Arts Council gives out $392,250 in CARES Act funds to arts groups statewide

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Arts Council has issued $392,250 in federal funds to 79 arts organizations through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Grant amounts ranged from $1,000 to $10,000, based on each group’s total annual revenue.
