Lyon County Senior Centers in Dayton, Fernley, Silver Springs and Yerington announced Wednesday that they will be participating in the 18th annual March for Meals – a month-long, nationwide celebration of Meal on Wheels and our senior neighbors who rely on the vital service to remain healthy and independent at home. Lyon County Senior Centers celebrations will include various activities throughout the month of March.

Heading into last day of 2019, we're looking at partly sunny skies with a high around 50 and low around 30. Activities around the capital city region are lined up through the day and evening. Enjoy and celebrate as we prepare to toast a welcome to 2020. Also do consider a designated driver, cab ride, Lyft or Uber to be on the safe side for your ride home if out celebrating. As we head into the final Monday of 2019, we're looking at a slight chance of light snow in the morning as a weak weather system brushes the region. Expect mostly sunshine and cloudy skies today as a weather system is expected to move into the region later tonight bringing rain showers to the lower valleys and some snow to the Sierra for the first day of Spring. Tip-a-Cop to benefit Special Olympics of Nevada on March 28 the from 4 to 8 p.m. at 1st & 10 Bar and Grill, 240 Dayton Valley Road. Tip-A-Cop is a annual fundraising event organized by The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, where law enforcement officers volunteer their time as “celebrity waiters” in restaurants and receive tips to raise funds for Special Olympics, the world’s largest sports organization for people with intellectual disabilities. The triple crown of Lake Tahoe winter events, Camp Richardson’s Snowshoe cocktail races return for another round of hilarity and sport Jan. 19, 2019.

Espolon Grill Y Tequileria and the Carson City Moose Lodge are co-sponsoring a fundraiser for Desiree Lund Wig and her two children. Their place caught on fire and they lost everything.

Among today's featured events are morning coffee with members of the Carson City Sheriff's Office, a brown bag book lunch with Tahoe's favorite mystery writer, a restaurant ribbon cutting at Gather restaurant, Ideas on Tap at Battle Born Social, live jazz and more.

Chili's Bar and Grill is holding an annual Donate Profits Day on Oct. 3 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Nationwide all Chili's will be donating 100 percent of the days profits to St. Jude Children's Hospital. Come in and enjoy a great meal, color a pepper, and know that your contribution in just eating will go to St. Jude.

It’s nice that the beginning of the school year is almost immediately rewarded with a three-day weekend. You’ll find annual events like Civil War Days in Virginia City and the Best in the West Rib Cook-off in Sparks, in addition to smaller happenings like the monthly Downtown Carson City Wine Walk and a roller derby double-header. Sunridge Golf and Recreations is experiencing a major uptick in play and membership since last year, defying a national trend showing a die-off of the sport.

Golf play at Sunridge Golf and Recreations, a more than 20-year-old golf course in Carson City, is up more than thirty percent since June of last year.

“The improvements we have made have been critical,” said General Manager Ken Stotts. “I think our players and community really feel heard and word has gotten out that we are investing in the course and want to make sure we see it to its full potential.”

We are running out of summer weekends. I know that’s hard to believe right now, but hoodies and everything pumpkin is just beyond the horizon. Grab summer with both hands and go enjoy this beautiful city. The Brewery Arts Center brings Dennis Johnson and the Mississippi Ramblers to the stage for tonight’s free concert. Check out the Railroad Museum for your fill of music and antique motor cars. Car lovers have two shows to choose from today: spectators will be able to enjoy both, but you’ll have to pick one if you want to enter your ride. Keep reading for more summertime fun.

I’m not even going to speculate on the air quality, but please use your best judgement when choosing your activities and there may be some cancellations that I am not aware of. Downtown has a full day of options, but the back roads may be a little more difficult to navigate due to construction projects. The great music that awaits will be worth the hassle. Let’s get August off to a good start. The first Saturday of the month always plays host to the Downtown Carson City Wine Walk, but with the Jazz and Beyond Musical Festival in full swing, you’ll have even more reasons to meander around downtown. The afternoon ice cream social at the historic Foreman-Roberts House is a perfect family-friendly treat before heading to the Brewery Arts Center for tonight’s free concert. Keep reading, you’ll find a little bit of something for everyone in the Carson City, Carson Valley, Dayton and Virginia City areas.

Yeah, it’s hot out there, but it’s the area happenings that are sizzling. The Carson City Fair at Fuji Park offers a plethora of entertainment for all ages including tractor pulls, a carnival, and farm animals. Under the shade of the Mills Park cottonwoods, you’ll have all day to peruse the varied vehicles in the annual Run Whatcha Brung Car Show. The sun will come out tomorrow, but it’s the stars that are coming out tonight for the free Levitt Amp Concert at the Brewery Arts Center.

I have long found it impossible to decide which Carson City event is my favorite: forever waffling between Nevada Day and the Taste of Downtown. Seeing as the annual parade is still months away, I’m going to side with ‘The Taste’ purely for its timeliness. With over forty local eateries participating, multiple raffles at downtown shops, and seven bands rocking every corner of the event, it’s practically impossible to have a bad time. This might be the biggest happening in town, but it’s by no means the only good time: read on for all this weekend’s options.

Summer fun is heating up! Let the kids burn off some energy at the Kids Triathlon at Mills Park. You’ll find all the colors of the rainbow, plus great music and fun times, at the Festival of Unity and Community: Sassabration. Get your grub on at the annual Nevada Honor Flight Chili Cook-off at Glen Eagles, and make sure to check out the craft vendors. The Brewery Arts Center free Concert Series continues tonight with Remember Jones on the stage; bring the family and your friends for a good time had by all. Read on for even more hot summer fun.

Time to get July off to a fun start. The downtown Wine Walk is a great way to spend the day exploring new shops, galleries, and restaurants. If you’re feeling competitive, head down to the Carson Mall for their watermelon and hot dog eating contests. The summer concerts at the Brewery Arts Center continue with a singer/songwriter showcase.

It’s a planes, trains, and automobiles kind of weekend. Add in bands, bikes and bar-be-ques and we’ve got most of this weekend’s list covered. The Carson City Airport is celebrating 90 years at this year’s open house and fly-in. One of the summer’s best events with balloon rides, cool old planes, and much more: you won’t want to miss it. Beat the heat at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada; all admission fees have been waived today thanks to Carson City Toyota. Summer concerts at the Brewery Arts Center begin tonight with the Original Wailers.

This is going to be an epic Fathers’ Day weekend. Carson City Off-Road sponsored by Epic Rides has taken over downtown with everything mountain bike and plays host to a free Music Festival in McFadden Plaza. Don’t miss Arts and Culture Day at the Nevada State Railroad Museum with unlimited rides on the Steam Train, special vendors, and more. Stewart Indian School will be a hotspot of activity with the annual Fathers’ Day PowWow underway. This is just the tip of the iceberg, read on for more fun than you’ll know what to do with.

It’s going to be a breezy weekend, so you may want to rethink spending the day at the lake. Luckily, plenty of options are available just about anywhere you are. Carson City has a car show and Brewfest hitting the downtown corridor, and to the south, Minden and Gardnerville are having their party of the year: Carson Valley Days. It’s World Doll Day at the Nevada State Museum with special displays, activities, and a special performance by the local Young Chautauquans.

This first weekend of June packs quite a punch: activities and events abound. Head downtown for the first Third and Curry Farmers Market of the season, then wander a few blocks north for Due Sorella’s Spring Vintage Market. You may as well just keep the car parked. With the monthly Wine Walk, Pour for Paws in McFadden Plaza, and Crystal’s Crusade Street Party Fundraiser on W. Telegraph, downtown is the place to be. There are so many options this weekend, so take a gander and enjoy your weekend.

Chili's Grill and Bar in Carson City is joining forces with Douglas County Sheriff's Office to raise funds for Special Olympics through Tip-A-Cop on Thursday, May 31.

Not only will we have deputies here to help serve you as you join us for this special event but you will have a chance to meet some of the athlete's themselves.

Memorial Day weekend is often thought of as the kick-off to summer, but in Northern Nevada we know that the weather is a fickle creature. The weather should be dryer and warmer as the weekend progresses but have back-up plans for your bar-be-que, just in case. From the Downtown Carson City Ghost Walk to the Rockin’ Rib Fest at Casino Fandango, a day hike with Muscle Powered to the Spring Blinky Man night-time costumed bike pub crawl – this weekend is chock-full of fun for locals and visitors alike, for the young and young-at-heart.

It’s going to be a chili weekend, and that has nothing to do with the weather. The annual Chili on the Comstock Competition takes over the tiny town of Virginia City, including a saloon crawl Saturday and the hilarious ‘Fun with the Runs’ 5K. Families will have a hard time choosing between the Cops and Kids Open House and Safety Fair at the Sheriff’s Office and the ‘Kids to Parks’ Day activities at Silver Saddle Ranch.
