Local Photographer Mark Gillard’s art is featured in a one man show at DST Coffee here in Gardnerville starting on Monday, January 15th.

His work ranges from landscapes to flora and fauna; historic buildings to his favorite – cows. Mark has enjoyed photography since he was a kid. It remains a passion to this day. His photos are of areas from Mad Canyon’s majestic peaks to Gardnerville’s Meadows, historic locales from Genoa to Virginia City, barns to classic cars.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be J. Kyle Dalpe, Ph.D., president of Western Nevada College. Dr. Dalpe has worked in higher education for more than 27 years supporting student access and success. In March 2023, he was appointed President of Western Nevada College (WNC), a rural community college with campuses in Carson City, Fallon and Minden, after serving more than a year in an interim capacity. He previously served as Provost and Senior Vice President at WNC, overseeing academic affairs, finance and student services.

The speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Michelle Joy, President and Chief Executive Officer of Carson Tahoe Health. CTH is a comprehensive healthcare network composed of two hospitals, two urgent cares, an emergent care center, outpatient services and a provider network with 20 regional locations. Their reach encompassing Carson City, Lake Tahoe, Minden, Carson Valley, South Reno, Dayton, Yerington, and beyond.

Here at Kids & Horses in Douglas County's Carson Valley, our volunteers are a valuable member of the Kids & Horses family. They give so much of their time, energy, and love to our horses and clients, and we could not be more grateful. Kids & Horses is excited to be hosting our 10th annual fundraiser golf tournament at the beautiful Incline Village Championship Course on June 5th. This is our largest fundraiser event of the year, and all proceeds go directly towards keeping our programs and facilities open for our community.

About the Artist My Dad gave me my first camera when I was eight. I would lay at the trunk of a tree and shoot upwards. The spark lit a passion that still burns brightly over 50 years later.

The first concert in CVAC’s 2021-2022 Concert Series will feature music from the Comstock Cowboys on Friday, October 8, 2021 at 7:00 pm at TJ’s Corral at the Carson Valley Inn in Minden.

With anywhere from a light dusting in the capital city to an inch or more from Reno into Washoe Valley, winter weather has arrived again, with a strong system shaping up to drop several feet of snow in the Sierra and several inches along the valley floors, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

Blowing dust off the Black Rock Playa and Carson Sink has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Blowing Dust Advisory in effect until 7 p.m. Tuesday evening.

MINDEN — Douglas County businesses and non-profits can now request to receive free personal protective equipment (PPE) and sanitizing products. Through the CARES Act, Douglas County is able to make available PPE and sanitizing products to businesses and non-profits within Douglas County at no charge.

Despite the changes in learning platforms brought on by the coronavirus, Western Nevada College is proud to announce that more than a third of its full-time students were still able to make the fall semester dean’s list.

The WNC Fall 2020 Dean’s List includes 408 students, accounting for 34.7 percent of the college’s full-time students.

On January 6, 2021 the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office ended a three-week investigation into the death of Jason Kaspian. Kaspian was found dead in his Vista Grande Drive apartment on Dec. 19, 2020 of a suspected overdose.

MINDEN — The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has received two reports in the past 24 hours from citizens who were contacted by telephone from someone claiming to be a DCSO deputy or sergeant.

The 121st annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count will be held this Saturday Jan. 2, 2021. This event is counting all birds with a 15 mile diameter circle covering the area contained approximately by the Carson River on the north, the Pine Nut foothills on the East, Bodie Flats on the South and Foothill Road on the West.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has released body camera footage, obtained by KRNV News 4, from the Dec. 20 officer involved shooting in Gardnerville in which a DCSO sergeant was shot three times.

Every winter, Carson Valley becomes a nesting ground for bald eagles, golden eagles, falcons, hawks, owls and other wildlife as they congregate to the region. Carson Valley’s expansive open space and cattle ranches provide habitat for the wintering birds of prey.

Carolyn Lee Davis passed away November 19, 2020, aged 73. She was a long-time resident of Carson City, where she moved after receiving her Bachelor of Science in Anthropology at Western Oregon University at the age of 53.

MINDEN — The Douglas County Board of County Commissioners’ installed an “In God We Trust” Display in the Board Chamber. At the October 3, 2019, Board meeting, the County Commissioners' approved Resolution 2019R-061 supporting the display of the national motto in the Board Chambers.

An outside investigator found no policy violations but room for improved communication after reviewing events surrounding a rural Nevada library’s draft diversity statement that drew the county sheriff’s ire and sparked protests and national media attention.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Several fundraisers, including the annual “Share Your Christmas” Food Drive will be available throughout the Carson City, Minden and Reno areas on Friday. You can visit the North Pole safely as part of a drive-thru Santa's Village experience at V&T Railway in Carson City, beginning Friday into the weekend. KTVN will host its annual Share Your Christmas Drive-By Food Drive this Friday, Dec. 11 with food drop-off locations in Carson City, Minden and Reno beginning at 6 a.m. and running until 6 p.m.

MINDEN — The Board of County Commissioners held a public hearing on the proposed amendments to the Douglas County Master Plan during a Special Meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020. After considering public comment and deliberation, the amended Master Plan was adopted by the Board.

MINDEN — The U.S. Navy Blue Angels have announced they will be returning to the Aviation Roundup Airshow at the Minden-Tahoe Airport for the 2022 Airshow.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. The annual Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights holiday celebration goes virtual on Friday. Santa Claus will arrive virtually at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada and in-person at Battle Born Harley Davidson on Saturday for pictures with families and kids of all ages.
