The Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada is kicking off its first of several fundraisers. Like many other businesses the Children’s Museum is also struggling to make ends meet. Operating costs such as rent and utilities make it impossible for a nonprofit whose main funding source has been cut by 75% to make ends meet.

I glanced up from my paper this morning to see a news alert: "Hammerin' Hank Aaron Dies at 86!" Oh, no! My memory raced away, back to 1974, where in the face of numerous death threats, Hank went after the Babe's revered homerun record, and smashed it. I wish I could have known him.

You can visit the North Pole safely as part of a drive-thru Santa's Village experience at V&T Railway in Carson City, beginning Friday into the weekend. The Carson City School District, on behalf of the Rotary Club of Carson City, is pleased to announce Carson High School’s Librarian Ananda Campbell as the winner of a $5,000 grant to fund a historical documentation project titled The Story of Carson High School. MINDEN — After consultation with the Douglas County Officials, the Towns, public safety agencies, and Douglas County Emergency Management it was determined in-person public holiday events at the Towns of Gardnerville, Genoa, and Minden, as well as the 25th Annual Parade of Lights hosted by the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce have been cancelled.

The new owners on Mountain Street are bringing some early holiday cheer to their Carson City neighborhood. With the large light display there shouldn’t be any trouble with it being seen by passers by, hospital staff and patients. It may be a few weeks early, but who can’t resist staring at some Christmas lights and feeling a little warm inside.

Be a part of bringing hope by voting on contestant art pieces to decide the “Social Media Fave” in the Donor Network West annual art contest. Four Carson High students, Anthony Larry, Connor Lampert, Danielle Van Dusen, and Sarai Jauregui Rivas made the first cut, though all of CHS Graphic Design Instructor Patricia Ababio’s students submitted entries.

In recognition of National Native American Heritage Month, Western Nevada College is proud to share the history and artwork of the Wahoe (Washiw) Tribe of Nevada and California.

The community is invited to attend Dia de los Muertos, a traditional Mexican celebration that honors deceased loved ones and/or their heroes by creating an altar that includes their pictures and favorite foods.

The results are in. Students laughed at them because they had to dress differently, today, but they laughed at the students, too, because they were all dressed the same.

The Nevada Day Committee got it wrong this year. By selecting "My Favorite Nevada Moment" as the theme for 2020, the committee has left people like me out.

I can't whittle my experiences in Nevada down to just one favorite.

Heading into the final weekend of October, Halloween and Nevada Day events will keep revelers busy through Sunday making for a jam packed weekend of fun for families and grownups around the Carson City region.

After the Nevada Builder’s Association began work on the former Jack’s Bar site in May of 2017, construction workers and carpenters overcame many obstacles including asbestos, 300 residing pigeons, and historic Carson City preservation guidelines.

Fall has arrived in the Sierra Nevada bringing the steady change of turning leaves and a noticeable chill in the air. The fall season also means bears are actively searching for food, even down into the lower valleys.

Sierra Lutheran High School will host the 3rd Annual Christ is Christmas Craft Fair Saturday, Nov. 7, on the SLHS campus from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The school will be strategically using outdoor and indoor space on its 34-acre campus to promote the kickoff to the Christmas shopping season within social distancing guidelines.

CARSON CITY — It’s been nearly two decades since the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda sinisterly carried out the single deadliest human terrorist attack ever by crashing hijacked passenger airplanes into the World Trade Center and Pentagon.

A special medallion honoring the Old West Pony Express mail route will be stamped on historical Coin Press No. 1 on Saturday, Sept. 5 at the Nevada State Museum in Carson City. Medallions will be minted from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A commemorative coin being minted in Carson City was unveiled Tuesday at the 24th annual Lake Tahoe Summit as one of the ways individuals can take part in the protection and restoration of Lake Tahoe.
