Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021 that there is an additional death due to COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. The agency is also reporting 16 new cases and 133 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region.

Gusty winds, especially in the Sierra, are expected Monday and Tuesday along with a cooling trend happening this week and the potential for snow by the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

It has been a plan in the works for months and Monday the National Hockey League made it official — they are bringing NHL Outdoors at Lake Tahoe to Edgewood Tahoe Feb. 20-21, 2021.

The National Hockey League (NHL) will be holding two outdoor games in Lake Tahoe next month as part of their Outdoor Weekend series.

On Feb. 20, Nevada's own Vegas Golden Knights and Colorado Avalanche will face off for a live game hosted by Edgewood Tahoe Resort.

The Carson City region is experiencing light snow with slick conditions during the Monday morning commute. Highest snow totals based on webcams are near and south of US-50.

The weather will transition to a more active pattern with periods of mountain snow, valley rain, and gusty winds later Friday through Saturday morning, according to the National Weather Service. A second colder system will be on its heels for early Monday and will provide chances for another round of snow.

UPDATE: Heading into the Christmas holiday weekend, the weather pattern for the Carson City region is expected to change beginning Christmas Day with periods of rain, snow and gusty winds into early next week, according to the National Weather Service.

The Bridgeport Winter Recreation Area on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest's Bridgeport Ranger District remains closed to over-snow vehicles, like snowmobiles, due to lack of snow. Snow levels must meet the minimum requirement in order to open the area.

Esther Chapter No. 3 of Carson City and the Grand Chapter of Nevada's Order of The Eastern Star recently made donations to several charities, including Food for Thought and the Veterans Guest House.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Several fundraisers, including the annual “Share Your Christmas” Food Drive will be available throughout the Carson City, Minden and Reno areas on Friday. You can visit the North Pole safely as part of a drive-thru Santa's Village experience at V&T Railway in Carson City, beginning Friday into the weekend. A living nativity scene will be featured at First United Methodist Church on Saturday and Sunday. Combined with train rides in Virginia City, the state capital will be buzzing with excitement. A series of fairly weak weather systems will move into western Nevada through the weekend that may break down the persistent dry pattern, bringing in breezy conditions with slight chances of very light snow showers Friday night into Saturday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

MINDEN — After consultation with the Douglas County Officials, the Towns, public safety agencies, and Douglas County Emergency Management it was determined in-person public holiday events at the Towns of Gardnerville, Genoa, and Minden, as well as the 25th Annual Parade of Lights hosted by the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce have been cancelled.
