Carson City area weather: Weak systems may bring 'very light' snowfall to valleys, a few inches in Sierra
A series of fairly weak weather systems will move into western Nevada through the weekend that may break down the persistent dry pattern, bringing in breezy conditions with slight chances of very light snow showers Friday night into Saturday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
NWS forecasters say that the systems could bring anywhere from 3-7 inches of snow in the high Sierra and a couple inches for the Lake Tahoe and Truckee areas.
For valleys across western Nevada, the best shot for "a very light" snowfall accumulation, less than a half inch, will be late Friday night and early Saturday before warmer air pushes snow levels higher, generally above 6,000 to 7,000 feet, according to the weather service.
Precipitation will taper off during the day on Saturday as the moisture feed breaks with a brief ridge building back overhead, according to the weather service.
Gusty winds are likely on Sunday with a short period of stronger ridge winds in the Sierra, forecasters are not anticipating speeds anywhere near the mid-November wind storms.
Looking ahead, the weather pattern looks to stay active in the Pacific Northwest through next week, with the Sierra and western Nevada on the southern edge of that active weather. It is possible there could be another storm or two brush by the region with additional light to moderate precipitation around the middle of next week, but the overall storm track still appears to favor the bulk of the moisture staying north of the Oregon border, NWS forecasters say.
