It finally stopped snowing and then the rain started. Empire Ranch Golf Course in Carson City is adjacent to the Carson River and with all the rain and show melt the snow on the course has been replaced by too much water. Scroll and click on each photo to enlarge.

On Sunday morning I stopped by Empire Ranch Golf Course in Carson City to see what the prospects of golf might be this week. It was still covered in snow but the temperature was warming so there is still hope for the end of the week.

CARSON CITY — Due to expected overnight snow and cold weather, the Nevada Department of Transportation and the Department of Public Safety are anticipating dangerous road conditions in the Carson City, Washoe County and Douglas County areas on Wednesday morning.

As a result of the impending snowstorm, all schools in the Carson City School District will be closed for the entire day Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2021. The storm threatens to be disruptive to travel throughout the region.

Weather Service warns of dangerous blizzard conditions in Sierra, heavy snow for Carson City area

Though the skies around Carson City were blue Tuesday morning, a winter storm is on the way, with various warnings for Lake Tahoe and the Sierra, as well as down to the valley floors around the Carson City area.

The National Weather Service in Reno warns that if you have to travel into the Sierra, do so early Tuesday as conditions will rapidly change Tuesday evening.

At 6 a.m. Tom and I were on the lake waiting for the official start time. There was an eerie fog-like mist lingering over the lake. It was a cool 18 degrees, and the winds were calm. Our first line went into the water at 6:33 a.m. and the first strike came at 7 a.m.

Forest Service extends closures on developed campgrounds in California due to COVID concerns

USDA Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region has decided to extend the developed campground closure on 12 National Forests in California to provide consistent COVID-19 mitigation response in accordance with Gov. Gavin Newsom’s Stay-at-Home Orders. These Regional Orders will be in effect through Jan. 29, 2021.

Wildlife was seen doing what wildlife does recently at Empire Ranch Golf Course in Carson City. This duck was seen ice skating on a frozen pond.

The weather forecast calls for partly sunny skies to continue today and mostly sunny skies on Thursday. By Thursday night into Friday, winds are expected to pick up, bringing in a slight chance of rain and snow showers.

Lyon County says mountain lions in Mound House area have killed livestock, pets

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office has reported a number of mountain lions that have been observed in the Mound House area that have apparently killed domestic animals and livestock, according to a post on the county's Facebook page.

Bridgeport Winter Recreation Area remains closed to motorized activities due to lack of snow

The Bridgeport Winter Recreation Area on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest's Bridgeport Ranger District remains closed to over-snow vehicles, like snowmobiles, due to lack of snow. Snow levels must meet the minimum requirement in order to open the area.
