Mountain lion spotted in northwest Carson City, NDOW urges awareness, safe practices

Suspect wanted in Carson City, Reno burglaries captured after fleeing stolen pickup
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 01/07/2020 - 9:51amA 37-year-old man who was a suspect in numerous business thefts in Carson City and Reno was taken into custody Monday following a vehicle pursuit and foot chase that led officers to his capture and a stolen truck used in the suspected burglaries, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office report.

There's a slight chance of snow showers later in the evening but nothing significant. Activities around town include the 2020 Winter Reading Challenge at the Carson City Library, "School of Rock, Senior Years" at the Brewery Arts Center, exhibits, showings, Carson City Classic Cinema Club presents "Captain Blood" at the BAC Performance Hall, dance and exercise classes at Yaple's Ballroom and more.
Carson City Sheriff: Suspect in recent commercial thefts now in custody
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 01/06/2020 - 7:10pmUPDATE 605PM: A male suspect was taken into custody Monday evening following a pursuit that led to a stolen vehicle that was apparently used in a series of alleged theft crimes that happened between Carson City and Reno, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said. A pursuit led to a foot chase in the area of Airport and Carmine and a suspect was taken into custody. The stolen vehicle, reported as a white pickup, which had a distinctive lumber rack and tool box, was recovered. A suspect, who was hiding in a trash can, is in custody.

UPDATE 2:12PM: A suspect in theft crimes in Carson City apparently struck at a Home Depot in Reno, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office. The incidents happened on Saturday, Jan. 4, at 1 a.m. and Sunday, Jan. 5 at 2 a.m. The suspect allegedly stole tool boxes and snowblowers from the Reno store. Scroll and click on photos to enlarge.

Senator Square: Fellowship of Christian Athletes thanks Carson City community for support
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 01/05/2020 - 8:58amNot only did the nonprofit organization Fellowship of Christian Athletes open their Christmas tree lot Nov. 24 to raise funds for their organization’s events and outreaches, they also supported other organizations and individuals by giving away 350 Angel Tree Christmas stockings and Christmas trees to Carson City children and families in need, and they also partnered with Sierra Lutheran High School to donate 75 trees to the US Marines at the Warfare Training Center in Coleville, Calif.

While significant accumulation is not expected, travel impacts are probable, with the worst conditions likely Sunday night into Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

The young man that I accompanied was a rather precocious and talkative eight-year old who was a bit jaded when it came to acknowledging the magic of Christmas. However, during the shopping part of the activity, my new young friend became very animated and hopeful as he talked about selecting gifts for his family and for himself.

Body discovered by hiker ID'd as missing elderly Carson City man

Carson City Sheriff's Office respond to report of dead body found in hills near Lakeview
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 12/17/2019 - 3:30pmUPDATE 5:14PM: From Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong: At approximately 1:48 p.m., a hiker in the hills between Carson Tahoe Hospital and Lakeview Estates discovered the remains of a deceased older male. The remains were largely buried in snow. Detectives have processed the scene and removed the body for transport to the Washoe County Medical Examiners Office for an autopsy, scheduled for Thursday. Identification of the remains and cause of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner. No other information is available at this time.
