Dear Readers, my name is Jordan River, born and raised in South Lake Tahoe, now a resident of Carson City, and I am trying to connect our local yoga enthusiasts and interested beginners into a community focused on becoming better at understanding our practice and all it has to offer.

Carson City’s Year in Review: a look back on 2020 (pandemic free edition)

It was an eventful year around the Carson City region notwithstanding the limitations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Here's some notable stories that were not pandemic related that happened in 2020.

Quad-County COVID-19 Wednesday briefing: 19 of 55 new cases from Carson City prison

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2020 that there are 55 new cases and 40 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. Nineteen of these additional 55 new cases are from the Warm Springs Correctional Facility in Carson City. This brings the total number of cases to 2,793, with 2,048 recoveries and 27 deaths; 718 cases remain active.

Carson City, Quad-County COVID-19 health briefing Tuesday: 45 new cases, 35 recoveries

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2020 that there are 45 new cases and 35 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. Twenty of these additional new cases are from the Warm Springs Correctional Facility in Carson City. This brings the total number of cases to 2,738, with 2,008 recoveries and 27 deaths; 703 cases remain active.

Carson City, Quad-County health briefing Monday: 23 of 55 new cases from Warm Springs prison

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Monday, Nov. 16, 2020 that there are 55 new cases and 25 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. Twenty-three of these additional 55 new cases are from the Warm Springs Correctional Facility in Carson City. This brings the total number of cases to 2,693, with 1,973 recoveries and 27 deaths; 693 cases remain active.

Carson City, Quad area COVID-19 Sunday report: 343 of 369 new cases from Warm Springs prison

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Sunday, Nov 15, 2020 that there are 369 new cases and 26 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. Of these 369 new cases, 343 are offenders in the Warm Springs Correctional Facility. This brings the total number of cases to 2,638, with 1,948 recoveries and 27 deaths; 663 cases remain active.

Quad County, COVID-19 Thursday update: 1 Carson City death, 38 new cases, 23 recoveries

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting an additional death on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2020 due to COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. The individual was a Carson City resident. CCHHS is also reporting 38 new cases and 23 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County Region. This brings the total number of cases to 1,999, with 1,783 recoveries and 29 deaths; 190 cases remain active.

Quad County, Carson City COVID-19 Wednesday briefing: 1 death, 24 new cases, 9 recoveries

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2020 an additional death due to COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. The individual was a Douglas County resident. CCHHS is also reporting 24 new cases and 9 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 1,961, with 1,760 recoveries and 25 deaths; 176 cases remain active.

UPDATE 11AM: The patient was flown by Care Flight to the trauma ward at Renown Medical Center. Their condition is unknown at this time. Carson City Sheriff's Office and NHP are investigating the crash. Motorists can expect delays.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies responded Wednesday morning to a vehicle crash involving a bicycle rider in the area of William Street near Mills Park.

Halloween fun, 'reverse parade' and film festival, competitions highlight Nevada Day weekend around Carson City

Heading into the final weekend of October, Halloween and Nevada Day events will keep revelers busy through Sunday making for a jam packed weekend of fun for families and grownups around the Carson City region.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2020 that there are 40 new cases and 35 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 1,822, with 1,644 recoveries and 22 deaths; 156 cases remain active.

Quad County, Carson City COVID-19 Tuesday update: 1 death, 29 new cases, 38 recoveries

Carson City Health and Human Services is report an additional death Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2020 due to COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. The individual was a Lyon County resident. CCHHS is also reporting 29 new cases and 38 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 1,782, with 1,609 recoveries and 22 deaths; 151 cases remain active.

Carson City, Quad County COVID-19 Monday report: 14 new cases, 30 recoveries

Carson City Health and Human Service is reporting Monday, Oct. 26, 2020 that there are 14 new cases and 30 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 1,753, with 1,571 recoveries and 21 deaths; 161 cases remain active.

Carson City, Quad region COVID-19 Sunday briefing: 15 new cases, 23 recoveries

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Sunday, Oct. 25, 2020 that there are 15 new cases and 23 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 1,739, with 1,541 recoveries and 21 deaths; 177 cases remain active.

Golf tournament, fundraisers, railbike tours and more highlight weekend events around Carson City

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. The Nevada Day Golf Tournament in remembrance of Mayor Bob Crowell will be held at Silver Oak Ranch Golf Course on Saturday. Dozens of fundraisers, including the Benson’s Feed 4 Paws 4-H group, will be scattered throughout the Carson City and Gardnerville areas. COVID testing Tuesday in Yerington following high number of positive tests at assisted living facility

Lyon County, City of Yerington, Carson City Health and Human Services and the Quad County Health Care Coalition will hold a COVID testing operation on Tuesday, Oct. 13 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.. The testing will be at the new City Hall (Old National Guard Building) located on the corner of Main Street and East Goldfield Avenue.

High Volume of Positive Covid-19 reported at assisted living facility in Yerington

Lyon County officials have been notified that an assisted living facility, Mason Valley Residence, in Yerington had a high number of positive tests for COVID-19.

It is reported that 34 out of 53 tests results were positive.

Carson City Ghost Train returns to Mills Park Oct. 30-31, tickets available Thursday

The Ghost Train is returning to Carson City from the dead. The Carson City Railroad Association, in partnership with Wild Horse Productions, will be reviving the yearly Halloween tradition of the Ghost Train at Mills Park in Carson City.

Carson City, Quad County COVID-19 Monday update: 7 new cases, 13 recoveries

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Monday, Sept. 28, 2020 that there are seven new cases and 13 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 1,297, with 1,198 recoveries and 16 deaths, 83 cases remain active.

Memorial exhibit, virtual prevention walk, music and more highlight weekend around Carson City

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Western Nevada College will host a memorial exhibit and informational presentation on the 9-11 attacks on Friday. Partnership Carson City will team up for a statewide suicide prevention virtual walk this Saturday. Heading into Labor Day weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Steam train rides in Carson City and Virginia City will be available Saturday through Sunday. The Carson Canyon Railbike Tours will run four times over the next three days, bringing excitement unlike any other. Sand Harbor in Lake Tahoe will open two hours early beginning at 6 a.m. to ease capacity and congestion. Combined with plenty of live music, Labor Day weekend will be a thrill! Accused kidnapper of Carson City child enters 'Alford' guilty plea, faces 5 years to life in prison

On May 4, 2020, Kahlil Deshaun Williams was arrested at Mills Park in Carson City for kidnapping, attempted sexual assault of a minor under 14, lewdness with a minor under 14, and false imprisonment after allegedly kidnapping a young girl as she waited for the school bus to bring her lunch.

Poker run, lacrosse, duck fundraiser and more highlight weekend activities around Carson City area

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. The American Cancer Society is hosting a poker run Saturday at Mills Park, and a free lacrosse clinic for kids ages 6-12 will be held at John L. Harvey Field. The Nevada Humane Society is virtually hosting its annual “Adopt a Duck” fundraiser for interested participants. Come ride Nevada's only operating 2-foot gauge railroad in Carson City's Mills Park. Saturdays and Sundays through Labor Day, 12 noon to 4 p.m. Tickets are $2 per person, children 3 and under are free, and can be purchased at the Depot in Mills Park.
