Carson City Bike Month Bigger Than Ever

In honor of National Bike Month, Muscle-Powered, Citizens for a Walkable and Bikeable Carson City has developed a full schedule of events for 2013, including the Tour de Carson May 5- a 30-mile bike ride for more advanced riders, along with two Family Cruise rides, one on May 15 at 6 p.m. starting at Telegraph Square, and a second Ride with a Vet on May 18 in conjunction with Chapter 388 of the Vietnam Veterans of America.

Next month is Bike Month and there are plenty of activities planned in Carson City. We kick off on April 24 with Nevada Moves Day at the State Legislature.
Muscle Powered is organizing exhibits in the front foyer of the legislative building highlighting Nevada groups working for better walking and biking. Participants include the Reno Bike Project, Safe Routes to Schools, the Carson Valley Trails Association and more.

Carson City geocachers get ready. Saturday, April 27 is your day. The Geocache Adventure, a second-annual event hosted by the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Unit, will provide a day's worth of searching for participants and $1,000 in prizes.

The event, organized by GE’s Measurement and Control employees in Minden, was held Friday, February 22, 2013, at Jethro’s Bar and Grill in Gardnerville, Nevada. Both charities rely heavily on support from partners, like GE, to sustain operations.

Along with dinner, wine and a silent auction, guests were treated to a video documentary that highlights the Carson City nonprofit agency which has provided food and shelter to those in need for 34 years.
Honorees at the event were State Senator Debbie Smith and former Carson City Supervisor Shelly Aldean.

The next installment of the Carson City Beer Crawl is set for Feb. 16. Tickets are $10. Participants will receive a wrist band, map and glass to use for $1 refills of 6 ounce samples at multiple downtown Carson City locations.
If you like beer and enjoy good Carson City company, you can pick up your beer glasses beginning at 11am the day of the event at High Sierra Brewing Co. If you have your glass from the previous event, it's only $5.

46th annual Blake Jones Trout Derby north of Bishop

On Saturday, March 16th the Bishop Area Chamber of Commerce expects upwards of 1,000 anglers to participate in the contest, which is one of the state’s biggest annual single-day fishing events.

However, once Toad’s ceased operations, two local business women, Lisa Tucker of Gardnerville and Megan Torres of Carson City, decided to make some changes for the better, take matters into their own hands, and create the relaxing and fun environment they envision at Remedy’s.

Though a small class, they were mighty and bonded well. Over the course of 2012, they shared many wonderful experiences meeting community leaders and learning about our unique community. September 23, 2012 (All day) Carson Canine Adventures in Carson City will hold an open house this weekend Sept., 23, 2012 from 10am until 4pm. Come by and meet the trainers and find out all about our new classes. Try some of the sport activities yourself. Dogs must be on leashes.
There will be everything from puppy classes to the “big show” conformation instructors there to meet you and talk about all things DOG! We will discuss nutrition and there will even be a groomer there to talk about grooming your best friend.
Soroptimist Stroke to Help needs golfers, sponsors, donations

September 29, 2012 - 9:00am Soroptimist International of Carson City seeks golfers, tee or green sponsors, and raffle prize donations for their 11th annual Stroke to Help Golf Tournament. The tournament is Saturday, September 29, at Eagle Valley Golf Course. Golfers may choose to play either the duffer-friendly East Course or the challenging links-style West Course. Play on both courses will be a 9 a.m. Shotgun start, with a Scramble format. Cost is $85 per player, and includes a Continental Breakfast, greens fee and cart, tee prizes, and a Barbecue lunch afterwards.
HopeFest tonight to benefit Carson City area cancer patients

HopeFest, an annual benefit concert that will feature the music of Mo5aic and The Cutters, is one of the Carson City's biggest fundraising events with 100 percent of the money raised going directly to supports local cancer patients in need.

September 15, 2012 (All day) A free fishing day sponsored by Carson City Host Lions Club and supported by several other organizations for local youngsters will be held at Baily Pond, Fuji Park. Saturday September 15 from 08:00 A.M. to 01:00 P.M. Free food and cold drinks, teeshirts, and raffle prizes will be available. There will be a fish cleaning station and an archery range. Local dignitaries will open the Tom Brooks Memorial Fishing Day at 08:00. Let's get the kids into the outdoors and teach them to fish. Children twelve years and older will need an NDOW fishing license.

August 25, 2012 (All day) Democratic candidate for US Senate, Congressman Shelley Berkeley will be speaking to the Carson City Democratic Women's Club Biennial Meet the Candidates BBQ on Saturday August 25th. The BBQ is being held at the backyard of 1001 Arrowhead Dr. from 1 to 4 PM. Cost is $20.00, children under 12 are free. There will be lots of food, raffle prizes and many other candidates for local offices that will also provide a brief statement of their qualifications and interests.
