Railbike tours, school supply drive, live music and more highlight weekend events in Carson City region
Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Carson River railbike tours begin Saturday packed with thrills for all to enjoy, and Virginia City is hosting several exciting events throughout the weekend. The Brewery Art Center's Flatbed Concert series continues featuring Kingwhistler and Eric Andersen. Read on for more events and happenings.

Friday, August 7
— Walmart and Salvation Army team up in Carson City, Douglas for modified school supply drive (all day). For the second year in a row, The Salvation Army is holding school supply drives at more than 4,500 Walmart locations across the country. In the Carson City, Douglas County and Reno areas, there are 8 Walmart stores participating this Friday through Sunday. Due to COVID-19, the need is greater than ever before. It also means our campaign looks a little different this year.
— Help Name Empire Ranch's 18 Hole Championship Golf Course (all day). Empire Ranch Golf Course is asking for your help in naming its 18-hole championship course and win an annual Empire Ranch Golf Course pass for 2020-21. The course is looking for a name to compliment our new Comstock Par-3 course that upholds the rich history of Nevada. The name should serve as a monument and reminder of this great state. Submit your entry at info@empireranchgolf.com or on Instagram @empireranchgolfcourse. The deadline to submit is Aug. 31 and the winner will be announced on Labor Day weekend.
— Virginia City Paracon. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The 10th Annual Virginia City Paracon is coming to Virginia City August 7-9. The 2020 event is going to be the best Paracon yet. Switching it up a bit here and there and adding some new jewels to the mix to make it that much sweeter.
— Foothill Garden Virtual Education Series. 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. hosted by The Greenhouse Project and streamed live via Facebook. In this installment, we'll be discussing food forests or edible forest gardens. Explore the whats, hows, and whys of designing a layered polyculture system in your landscape. We'll dive deep into strategies, design elements, and climate appropriate species to grow.
— Nevada Artists Association 2020 Summer Show. 12 to 4 p.m. at 449 W. King St. The Nevada Artists Association is excited to present the 2020 “Summer Show." This judged show represents a collection of 74 plus photographs, paintings, drawings, mixed media and 3D pieces by Nevada Artists Association members and non-members from Northern Nevada.
— Dancing Class at Yaple's Ballroom Dance Studio. 3 p.m. at 315 N. Carson St. Join us for some dancing! No partner needed. Learn dance steps to all Ballroom and Latin dances. A Mix of mini dance routines and line dances. Improve turns and balance. Good for anyone who is wanting to learn to dance.
— Beers in the Brewery at The Union Carson. 4 to 5 p.m. 302 N. Carson St. Join us in the brewery every Friday for a free beer tasting! Come and stop by the brewery to taste a couple of our house beers and have a few small bites while we teach you what makes each of our featured beers unique and delicious!
— Order 66 at Bella Vita Bistro. 5 to 7 p.m. at 1304 S. Stewart St. Order 66 will be out on our patio on Friday! Come on in and listen to some good music and have amazing food!
— Virtual Open Mic Night at A to Zen. 6 p.m. at 1803 N. Carson St. In light of COVID-19, A to Zen Gift Shop in Carson City is hosting a virtual open mic night every Friday at 6 p.m. Interested participants can record their performance and send the video with the link above.
— One Way Street to Perform at Living the Good Life. 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at 1480 N. Carson St. We play Friday. Call Living the Good Life to reserve your seat today 775-841-4663.
— 'Murder at the Gin Joint' at Virginia City's Piper's Opera House. 7 to 9:30 p.m. at 12 North B Street. Historic Piper’s Opera House in Virginia City, Nevada, is opening its doors once again for what it was meant to be — a performing arts venue. “Murder at the Gin Joint” premiers this August and is a murder mystery presented by the Piper’s Players.
— Friday Night Karaoke at the Whiskey Tavern. 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at 3481 Hwy 50 E. in Carson City. Come hang out with the Whiskey Tavern and J and M Productions as we sing the night away every Friday! Must be at least 21 years old.
Saturday, August 8
— Carson River Canyon railbike tours begin Saturday, to deliver an experience unlike any other (all day). All aboard for a unique ride on the rails at 4650 Eastgate Sliding Road. Visit Carson City, in partnership with the V&T Railway Commission, have announced an all-new attraction unlike any other in northern Nevada. Railbikes will run Tuesday-Sunday, four times a day 10 a.m., noon, 2p.m. and 4 p.m. Excursions are $45 per person. Tickets may be purchased online at vtrailway.com.

They feature only quality, handmade crafts and fine art by the exhibitors. While you’re at the Art Walk on the Comstock, you can relax to the sounds of live music, and enjoy an assortment of food and beverages at the nearby specialty booths.
— Historical coin press to mint special medallion honoring Abe Curry in Carson City. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Nevada State Museum, 600 N. Carson St. Historical Coin Press No. 1 inside the Nevada State Museum, Carson City, will be minting a special medallion commemorating Abraham Curry, the first superintendent of the Carson City Mint.
— CCPD Nine Year Anniversary Celebration. 12 to 2 p.m. at Carson City Pediatric Dentistry, 4530 S. Carson St. This free drive-thru event is open to the public and will be held in our parking lot at Carson City Pediatric Dentistry. Come by with the family, get a snow cone and participate in our raffle. We'd love to see you!

Musser St. The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, "H2O 2020", with work by eight Great Basin artists at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery: Cyndy Brenneman, Vanessa Martinez, Nolan Preece, Nancy Raven, Craig Sheppard, Dylan Silver, Cathryne Trachok, and Candida Webb. The exhibition will be in the gallery through Sept. 24, 2020.
