It was an eventful year around the Carson City region notwithstanding the limitations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Here's some notable stories that were not pandemic related that happened in 2020.

A man and woman were arrested Christmas morning for suspicion of felony burglary after they were seen on surveillance video attempting to break into a safe belonging to their employer, a Carson City sheriff's deputy report states.

While Carson City has never had Black Friday tramplings, Black Friday—along with Thanksgiving evening—have often been a busy and popular shopping day for capital city residents.

In recent years more and more people are opting to shop online, and it appears this year that sentiment has only increased.

Due to the great demand for COVID-19 symptomatic testing in our area, and to help manage the influx of COVID cases, Carson Tahoe is providing symptomatic testing at two convenient locations. This service is reserved is for people experiencing COVID-like symptoms such as; fever, cough, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, and sore throat.

With the restrictions put in place across Nevada to curb the coronavirus pandemic, Holiday with a Hero organizers considered canceling this year’s event.

Retailers in Nevada and throughout the United States are ramping up hiring campaigns for the all-important holiday shopping season. In the Silver State, the Retail Association of Nevada estimates retailers will boost hiring by 4,700 positions during the holiday shopping period.

A 43-year-old man was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of indecent or obscene exposure, a gross misdemeanor offense, a Carson City sheriff's office booking report states.

A 32-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Friday for suspicion of three counts gross misdemeanor child neglect after allegedly letting her 13-year-old daughter drive to the store with two other children aboard, a Carson City sheriff's report states.

Carson City has been included as part of a nationwide drive-in movie project hosted by Walmart and held in parking lots across the country.

For the second year in a row, The Salvation Army is holding school supply drives at more than 4,500 Walmart locations across the country. In the Carson City, Douglas County and Reno areas, there are 8 Walmart stores participating this Friday through Sunday. Due to COVID-19, the need is greater than ever before. UPDATE: While the businesses at Topsy Lane have Carson City addresses, Topsy Lane is technically within the jurisdiction of Douglas County, bringing Carson City's fined businesses to 1, and Douglas County's to 2.
