On Sunday morning I stopped by Empire Ranch Golf Course in Carson City to see what the prospects of golf might be this week. It was still covered in snow but the temperature was warming so there is still hope for the end of the week.

Capital City Women's Club at Empire Ranch has two new Championship winners! Congratulations to Vicki Barbaria who won Low Gross Over the Field and Loretta Szymanski who won Low Net Over the Field. Vicki shot a 173 (Gross) and Loretta shot a 135 (Net) over the two day tournament. Great job ladies and to all the ladies who participated!! The column of smoke seen Thursday from Highway 50 East is at Empire Ranch Golf Course, which is conducting prescribed burns to accomplish hazardous fuels reduction and wildlife habitat restoration, according to the Carson City Fire Department.

Empire Ranch Golf Course will be conducting prescribed burns to accomplish hazardous fuels reduction and wildlife habitat restoration. These burns are conducted within strict environmental conditions and under a permit issued by Carson City Fire Department. Smoke will be seen throughout the Carson area, please don’t report this as a fire. Only call 911 if you have an emergency.

There is a prescribed fire happening this Monday afternoon at Empire Ranch Golf Course. Carson City dispatch notes it has been receiving numerous calls from citizens reporting a fire. The fire is a controlled burn done by the property and was, earlier, putting up a heavy amount of smoke.

Wildlife was seen doing what wildlife does recently at Empire Ranch Golf Course in Carson City. This duck was seen ice skating on a frozen pond.

The weather forecast calls for partly sunny skies to continue today and mostly sunny skies on Thursday. By Thursday night into Friday, winds are expected to pick up, bringing in a slight chance of rain and snow showers.

Located at 1875 Fair Way, Empire Ranch is putting together a par-3 golf course to go along with its 18-hole championship layout surrounded by more than 250 acres of land that overlooks the Carson River. The par-3 course will be something new for all levels of golfers.

Goose Apocalypse: how do you deal with a geese infestation?

Robbie Sikes is the superintendent of the Empire Ranch Golf Course, and he is sick and tired of geese.

“On any given day when I get in, there are at least a thousand geese out on the greens,” said Sikes. “I’ve tried everything. The repellent doesn’t seem to do anything. People said get a dog to chase them, but I’ve got a lab who chases them every morning and they only fly up in the air and land in the ponds.”
