The Salvation Army Carson City Corps has received much-needed funding to purchase kitchen equipment for its food programs.

The Max Casino in Carson City has partnered with the Salvation Army to host the annual turkey drop to benefit Carson City and Douglas County families in need. The event is from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., this Thursday and Friday, Nov. 18-19, 2021.

St. Teresa's Deacon Craig LaGier to speak at Democratic luncheon

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Deacon Craig LaGier, St. Vincent Advisor and Minister to the Homeless at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Community. He also serves as Chaplin for the Carson City Sheriff's Office. Deacon Craig is also the Founding Director of the Night Off The Streets program, or NOTS for short. To reduce the risk of ill healh or death due to hypothermia, NOTS provides overnight shelter at local churches to people without homes.

FEMA emergency food and shelter program funds awarded to Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Washoe counties

Federal funds made available through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency have been awarded to jurisdictions in the state of Nevada for Phase 38. The eligible spending period for Phase 38 is January 1, 2020 to May 31, 2021. Salvation Army iconic Red Kettle fundraising numbers lower than 2019, while need continues to rise

This holiday season, The Salvation Army’s Del Oro Division, which covers Northern Nevada and Northern California, has raised $800,000 less with its iconic Red Kettle Campaign compared to last year. In 2019, the nonprofit brought in $2.4 million to support Christmas assistance and fund programs throughout the year. So far this year, The Salvation Army has brought in just over $1.6 million. With just two days left in the campaign, the nonprofit is asking those in the community who are able, to please give and support their neighbors in need.

Mayor demands how many masks Carson City has, emergency operations declines to answer

An update was given to the Carson City Board of Supervisors regarding emergency operations being provided by Carson City Health and Human Services as well as the quad county Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

During the discussions, Tom Raw, Deputy Emergency Manager for the EOC, said they do not want to publicly disclose the amount of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) the city has. Carson City Health and Human Services Director Nicki Aaker also said they have stopped putting in orders for PPE since orders were not fulfilled in the past.

Stimulus Program Information

The coronavirus relief bill passed March 27 by Congress provides payments to individuals who make less than $100,000 a year. The payment total $1,200 for each adult who makes $75,000 or less, plus $500 per child. The payment amounts decrease if you make between $75,000 and $99,000.
