Events around Carson City for Wednesday, Feb. 26

More springlike weather around the capital city is ahead Ash Wednesday with a daytime high near 65. Events include a Real ID town hall meeting at the Carson City DMV, the economic impact of pro soccer in Northern Nevada will be featured at NNDA's Business Edge at Casino Fandango, Carson City Schools offers the first of three pre-kindergarten programs for parents and will also host a separate strategic plan meeting. Meanwhile, Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness hosts a yoga class, plus Salsa dancing at Yaple's Ballroom, country and pop dancing at Carson Lanes, a safety workshop for women and more.

— Ash Wednesday Service at Carson City's St. Paul's Lutheran Family. St. Paul's Lutheran Family, located at 1201 N. Saliman Road, Carson City (next to Carson High School) will have an Ash Wednesday Service with Holy Communion on Wednesday, February 26 at 12:30 p.m. All are welcome to join us as we begin the season of Lent, remembering our mortality and giving thanks for God's gift of everlasting life! Through Christ, God puts back together what humans have broken!

— Capital City Arts Initiative to present 'Impact' exhibition featuring Lake Tahoe artist Paula Chung. Daily through May 28. The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition "Impact" by artist Paula Chung at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery in Carson City. The exhibition will be in the gallery through May 28, 2020. The Courthouse is located at 885 E Musser Street, Carson City. The gallery is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Paula Chung’s Impact works address violence on sports fields, battlefields, and the streets. Through the use of medical imagery, she illustrates how violence affects us all.

— Capital City Arts Initiative presents 'Photo Finished 2020' exhibition. Daily. The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, Photo Finished 2020, at the Community Development Building, the Brick, 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City. Nine students from Carson High School’s Advanced Photography program have work in the exhibit. The free exhibition is available to the public through March 26, 2020, Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. The Carson High students include Jackie Garza, Ansley Griffin, Karla Herrera, Meagan Kiesow, Kayee Konze, Kailee Luschar, Vanessa Martinez, Haley Trost, and Valerie Wamsley. The artists are all students in Kara Ferrin’s Advanced Photography class.

— Nevada Artists Association Judged Winter Show to run through March 27. 10 a.m. Nevada Artists Association presents the Winter Show. This is a judged show presenting a wide array of entries from Northern Nevada artists. This show runs through March 27. The Gallery is located at 449 W. King Street in Carson City and is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. everyday, except Monday. — Open Studio Painting at the Brewery Arts Center. 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Work on your own paintings from subject matter you chose for yourself. The instructor will provide one on one instruction throughout the class. Students may use oil, acrylic, or watercolor paint. Dry media is also welcome. Bring your own supplies and source materials (such as photographs or drawings you wish to paint). This in an open enrollment drop in class so there is no need to enroll in advance. — NNDA's Business Edge to examine economic impact of pro soccer in Northern Nevada. 11:30 a.m. Professional teams provide a needed source of entertainment and community pride, but what is the economic impact of a professional team? How far does the impact extend through Northern Nevada and into the Sierra region? How do professional teams contribute to and support the community? — Wine and Dine Watercolor Classes at Black Bear Diner inside Max Casino. 4:15 to 5:45 p.m. Students get a reminder text each week. Drop in basis — no monthly commitment necessary. — DMV to host town hall meetings in Carson City, Reno regarding Real ID requirements. 5 p.m. The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles will hold a town hall meetings in Carson City on Wednesday, Feb. 26, to help residents learn about Real ID requirements for travelers that will go into effect this fall. Beginning Oct. 1, 2020, a REAL ID-compliant driver's license or another type of acceptable identification, such as a passport, will be necessary to board domestic airline flights. Real IDs are already required to enter secure federal facilities. The DMV town hall begins at 5 p.m. at the Carson City DMV office, 555 Wright Way. There is also a session at the Reno DMV beginning at 6 p.m., 305 Galletti Way.

— Relay for Life fundraiser at Carson City's Firehouse Subs. 5 p.m. to closing. Join the Carson City, Douglas County Relay for Life team on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at Firehouse Subs, Highway 50, in Carson City for a "Dine and Donate" event. From 5 to 9 p.m., Firehouse Subs will be donating a portion of their proceeds to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. FireHouse Subs is located at 3120 US-50, Carson City.

— Presentation aims to highlight improving access to quality healthcare. 5 p.m. Healthy people make healthy communities. What are the biggest barriers to overall health and quality healthcare here in northern Nevada? Learn about innovative approaches happening here in our community and what is being done to ensure all Nevadans can lead healthy, happy lives. Join us February 26, 5 p.m. for this monthly speaker series to learn about critical local issues that impact your quality of life here in the region. It will be held at the McKinley Arts & Culture Center 925 Riverside Dr., Reno.

— Seeking Safety workshops continue Wednesdays through March. 5:30 p.m. A 12-week public workshop called Seeking Safety meet Wednesdays through March 25. Seeking Safety is an evidence-based curriculum gained at helping women develop skills to keep themselves out of unsafe relationships and avoid self-abuse of drugs or alcohol. The workshops are open to women and participants are encouraged to attend any of them. The workshops are facilitated by licensed counselors. The workshops are offered by counselors through the Community Counseling Center that received special training paid for by a grant through Carson City Health and Human Services. Workshops will be held 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Wednesdays, in the meeting room at Salvation Army, 911 East Second Street, Carson City. — Carson City School District seek community member opinions on strategic plan. 6 p.m. The Carson City School District is needing local community members to attend, weigh in and provide opinions at the quarterly Community PLC meeting, also known as Professional Learning Community, this Wednesday, February 26, 6 p.m., inside the Carson High School Library. The purpose of these quarterly meetings with school officials is to accumulate feedback from community members on how the school district’s strategic plan is performing and suggest ideas and systems to better help meet the goals, objectives and strategies of the district’s plan. The meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. and end promptly at 7:30 p.m. Community members may park along the curb (both sides) in front of Carson High School and enter the building at the south entrance near the flag pole. Individuals planning on attending are welcome to share this invitation with colleagues, friends and neighbors who might be interested in attending this meeting and/or joining the group.

— Carson City Schools offer pre-kindergarten, parent opportunities and activities. The Carson City School District Pre-K Office is inviting parents to “Save The Date” for three separate parent engagement opportunities and activities for children who will be 4-years-old by Sept. 30, 2020. The first event is Wednesday, February 26, 6 to 7 p.m. at the Carson City Public Library, 900 N Roop St. Learn how the Library can help your family with literacy. Take a tour, participate in activities and receive a library card.

— Country and Pop Dancing at Carson Lanes. Every Tuesday and Wednesday night with DJ Tedi Burger who will be playing all your favorite Country and Pop Tunes from 6 to 10 p.m. Both nights include Beginner Hr 6-7pm and Line or Partner Lessons at 6:30 and 7:30 with either Tedi, Dustin, Danielle, Annie, Craig or Wayne.
