Carson City School District recognizes the importance of fostering strong partnerships with families. In an effort to enhance this communication, the Parent and Family Engagement Advisory has created a survey to gather this valuable feedback.

Ready to Rock Kinder Winter Activity Night in Carson City Dec. 19

If you have or know any children who will be in Kindergarten next school year, we are having a winter activity night on December 19th, from 5-7 PM at the CHS High Tech Center, at 1111 N Saliman Rd, Carson City, NV 89701 (the building on the corner of Saliman and Robinson) planned by our fabulous Early Childhood Career and Technical Education class.

There will be a winter themed craft, cookies and cocoa, station rotations with learning activities and take home resources for parents.

The Trick or Treat Food Drive has returned and at least nine schools in the Carson City are participating to compete and to collect the most non-perishable food items to win the 'Phil the FISH' trophy and a pizza party.

Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Sarah Adler, Principal at Silver State Government Relations. She will speak on behalf of the Nevada Housing Coalition, a group that works with legislators on policy solutions that address both the shortage of affordable and supportive housing and access to existing housing.

Affordable housing is defined by the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development as “Housing for which the occupants are paying no more than 30% of his or her income for gross housing costs.”

Supervisor Lisa Schuette to speak at Democratic luncheon

Lisa Schuette, who represents Ward 4 on the Carson City Board of Supervisors, will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon. A Carson City native, Lisa is a retired health teacher and probation officer who is best known as founding chair of the Carson Animal Services Initiative (CASI), which raised the funds needed to build and equip the city's state-of-the-art animal shelter.

The Carson City Host Lions Club is conducting a special campaign to collect and recycle used eyeglasses with the help of the Carson City School District. Collection boxes will be placed in elementary school classrooms on a rotating basis through Feb. 28.

Carson City School District closes schools Wednesday for winter storm, WNC campuses also closed

As a result of the impending snowstorm, all schools in the Carson City School District will be closed for the entire day Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2021. The National Weather Service is predicting one of the most impactful winter storms in recent years to hit our area. Periods of heavy snow and strong winds are expected tonight. The storm threatens to be disruptive to travel throughout the region.

Local scientist donates 550 thermometer watches to Carson City STEM school

The Carson City School District is pleased to announce Empire Elementary School, a designated Governor’s STEM School, has received 550 Thermometer Watches from local Scientist Ron Newton. The wearable technology, costing less than $10, is designed to monitor the temperature of the wearer and indicate if they are running a fever.

Senator Square: Destination unknown is theme of Carson High School's 2021 Winterfest

Students from all four classes recently nominated Carson High School Winterfest candidates for 2021 Winterfest week, Feb. 1-5, where both a King and Queen will be crowned. The theme, Destination Unknown, was decided upon; since students are not allowed to experience the vacations they love, they are bringing their vacation destinations to CHS.
