The Carson City School District announced Friday that it will be switching to a pass or fail grading system for students virtually working on their second semester of the 2019-2020 school year from home due to the COVID-19 mandated school shutdown.

A virtual town hall meeting was held Wednesday evening where local leaders spoke about the COVID-19 pandemic, how it affects Carson City and what city departments, schools and Carson Tahoe Hospital are doing to mitigate the issues.

More springlike weather around the capital city is ahead Ash Wednesday with a daytime high near 65. Events include a Real ID town hall meeting at the Carson City DMV, the economic impact of pro soccer in Northern Nevada will be featured at NNDA's Business Edge at Casino Fandango, Carson City Schools offers the first of three pre-kindergarten programs for parents and will also host a separate strategic plan meeting. Meanwhile, Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness hosts a yoga class, plus Salsa dancing at Yaple's Ballroom, country and pop dancing at Carson Lanes, a safety workshop for women and more.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles will hold town hall meetings at four DMV offices across the state on Wednesday, Feb. 26, to help residents learn about Real ID requirements for travelers that will go into effect this fall.

About 20 people gathered in the Bonanza Room at the Carson City Community Center Thursday night for a town hall meeting hosted by the State Independent Living Committee (SILC), part of the Nevada Aging and Disability Services Division.

The meeting's purpose was to elicit public comments about how federal funds for centers for independent living are to be dispersed in the community.

Congressman Mark Amodei will hold an agriculture town hall meeting in Carson City on Wednesday, April 1, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., in the second floor chambers of the Paul Laxalt State Building at 401 N. Carson Street.

“Nevada’s agriculture industry is strong, but our hard-working producers and ranchers face unique challenges. This forum is an opportunity for them to continue to voice their concerns to me and my staff, as well as state and federal agencies," said Amodei, Nevada's second congressional district representative.

There is great concern that we are becoming a nation of the corporation, by the corporation and for the corporation. It seems that the individual doesn’t matter, that our voice is absent in the decisions our country makes. Politics now seem to be all about money and placating the special interests.

Vance Alm, M.D., is a candidate for Nevada's Congressional District 2 and will be conducting town hall meetings.
