Despite concerns of civil unrest to coincide with the inauguration of a new president Wednesday morning, downtown Carson City was quiet as Joe Biden was sworn into office.

Juan’s Mexican Grill to open Monday in Downtown Carson City

Carson City’s newest Mexican eatery will be officially opening this Monday, Jan. 18 in its new downtown home.

Owners Juan and Maria Salazar have been running the first location of Juan’s Mexican Grill for years inside the Comstock Casino and this new location, which took over the venue left vacant by Battle Born Social, will be their second.

This is not their first time serving up Mexican cuisine in the downtown area. Juan’s used to operate both inside the old Mo and Sluggo’s (now the Pourhouse) as well as the Horseshoe Club (now closed).

The Nevada Builders Alliance, owner of the Bank Saloon, has requested assistance by the Brewery Arts Center to solicit proposals from local artists to beautify the electric transformer box located at their property on the corner of Carson and 5th streets. The owners of the property are looking for designs that will go with the established aesthetic of both inside and outside of the bank saloon.

Local eatery Juan's Mexican Grill to open second location in downtown Carson City

Juan Salazar first moved to Carson City 16 years ago to be closer to his parents who were, at the time, operating an eatery within Mo and Sluggo's.

Since then, the family has been serving up dishes throughout Carson City, first at Mo and Sluggo's (now Westside Pour House), then at the Horseshoe Club (now closed), and finally at the Comstock Casino, where they remain as Juan's Mexican Grill.

Carson City man jailed after homeowner shoots him in foot for alleged attempted break-in

A 24-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Saturday for suspicion of felony home invasion after being shot in the foot by a homeowner who had attempted to scare the suspect away, according to a sheriff's office booking report.

Each October, Nevadans turn their attention to the state capitol, Carson City, home of the “official” Nevada Day Parade. Since 1938, the Nevada Day Parade in Carson City has been an annual coming together to celebrate Nevada’s heritage and the founding of this great state on October 31, 1864.

First wine walk since COVID-19 shut down sells 327 tickets, brings wine-lovers to downtown Carson City

The first wine walk since the COVID-19 shutdown took place today in Downtown Carson City, bringing 327 patrons to the popular warm-weather event.

Patrons had their temperature checks upon check in, and masks were required while inside businesses.

According to event hosts, no one had been turned away for a high temperature or cold-like symptoms, but some had been turned away for not purchasing tickets ahead of time, as required.

Carson City's new Capital City Sushi replaces Kim Lee's; former owner's death remains a mystery

A new sushi restaurant, Capital City Sushi, has taken the place of Kim Lee's, which had closed in March of this year.

The popular sushi restaurant, located at 319 North Carson Street in downtown Carson City, closed down earlier this year amidst the COVID-19 shutdown, and Capital City Sushi took over the location soon after.

Carson City's 'Bank Saloon' announces local restauranteur as new operator for the historic, long-awaited bar

Nevada Builders Alliance, owner of the Bank Saloon building in Carson City, have announced that Mangia Tutto owner Richard Bragiel will be the new operator of the historic location.

The bar, which is scheduled to open in October 2020, has undergone extensive renovations since it was purchased by the Builders Alliance in 2018. Organizers aim for new Taste of Downtown Carson City date; original July event canceled

In an update Wednesday from Advocates to End Domestic Violence, the organization behind the community's annual summer culinary favorite Taste of Downtown Carson City, the event won't take place on July 18 as volunteers had hoped. However, organizers are working on plans to find a way to make the event happen this year.

Capital City Brewfest organizers reschedule popular downtown beer festival for late summer

The Capital City Brewfest is moving to late August this year due to Covid-19 concerns. Originally scheduled for June 20, the annual event will now take place on August 29 in Downtown Carson City.
