DMV offices in Carson City, statewide open with phased-in limited service

The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles reopened its branch offices in the Silver State including Carson City and Reno, which saw brisk business Monday.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles is preparing to reopen after shutting down on March 16, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, a reopening date has not been set. All full-service DMV offices remain closed.

Homeland Security extends REAL ID deadline to Oct. 1, 2021

The Department of Homeland Security has set the new deadline for REAL ID enforcement as Oct. 1, 2021. Acting Secretary Chad Wolf issued the following statement on the deadline extension:

Nevada governor, DMV grant 90-day license and registration extensions

CARSON CITY — In an effort to bring relief to Nevada motorists affected by the closures related to COVID-19, Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak and the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles have issued an automatic 90-day extension for expiring driver’s licenses, vehicle registrations and other DMV documents. Governor Sisolak signed a Declaration of Emergency authorizing the extension March 20.

Nevada DMV to Offer Traditional Drivers’ License to Residents as Option to Real ID

CARSON CITY – A legislative panel was told by the Department of Motor Vehicles yesterday that a new version of a regulation implementing Real ID in Nevada is being drafted that will allow residents to keep the older, traditional license if they choose to do so.

Legislative Commission’s Subcommittee to Discuss “Real ID” in Nevada

The Legislative Commission’s Subcommittee to Review Regulations will meet tomorrow afternoon to discuss the fate of the controversial “Real ID” in Nevada.
Citing concerns with both privacy and cost, numerous organizations have come out against the requirements of the REAL ID Act of 2005 including the ACLU, Americans for Tax Reform, Gun Owners of America, Gun Owners of Nevada, Campaign for Liberty, the Cato Institute, National Immigration Law Center and the National Network to End Domestic Violence.
