The Carson City and Quad-County region is experiencing a downward trend of COVID-19 hospitalizations since the start of the new year. However, while rates of transmission for children and teenagers have remained low since the pandemic began, new reporting shows a significant increase in minors contracting the virus, according to statistics.

On December 14, 2020 Xavier Pierce ran away from his home in Carson City. Xavier is believed to be in the Carson City area and may be riding a red bicycle.

On Thursday morning, December 17, 2020 Xavier’s mother discovered his wet clothing in their garage and it appeared he changed his clothing. Xavier does not have any medical problems and is not considered at risk.

Xavier has returned to his mother’s home on at least two different occasions, the most recent being on January 4, 2021.

Xavier’s mother believes he is coming to the home when she is gone to change clothes.

Gov. Steve Sisolak is proposing a two-year budget that reverses cuts to Medicaid and other key K-12 programs made last summer, after financial projections left the state at what officials are calling an “inconsistent, if not positive, ending point” for tax revenue.

CARSON CITY — After a month of fundraising, Carson Tahoe has raised over $42,000 toward supplying reusable ENVO N95 masks for their frontline workers. Now, an anonymous donor has offered a match, allowing donors to double their impact. That’s right, every new ‘Sponsor A Caregiver’ gift received until Feb. 21 will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $25,000.

According to Teen Health and Wellness, Rosen Publishing, “Sharing stories is a powerful way to connect with other people. UPDATE 3:00 p.m.: Law enforcement has cleared the scene and the vehicle was towed. According to Furlong the driver of the vehicle was a man in his 50s. They are currently not regarding the collision as suspicious. It is being investigated by the traffic unit as well as by Nevada Highway Patrol. The driver is suspected to have driven through the cement pylons and through the front doors of the store, and continued through the store striking four people until the vehicle came to a stop. The driver of the vehicle along with four individuals struck inside the store were taken to the hospital.

UPDATE 2:06 p.m.: They are preparing to remove the vehicle from the building.

UPDATE 1:00 p.m.: Stewart is reopened.

UPDATE 11:49 a.m.: According to Sheriff Ken Furlong they believe the driver of a vehicle traveling West on Wright Street experienced a medical emergency, causing them to continue through Stewart Street and directly into the doors of Sportsman’s Warehouse. The vehicle struck five people as it drove through the store.

UPDATE 11:43 a.m.: Both Care Flight helicopters have taken off and are heading to the hospital.

UPDATE 11:36 a.m.: Both helicopters have landed. Stewart Street is blocked.

UPDATE 11:08 a.m.: A second helicopter was ordered to the scene.

Streets will be closed down near the scene including at the roundabout for the helicopter to land.

Multiple injuries were reported at the scene of a traffic accident on Friday which occurred just after 11 a.m.

A 39-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI and other offenses, a Carson City sheriff's arrest report states.

Sheldon Adelson, the son of a Boston cabbie who became a billionaire and left an indelible mark on the worlds of gaming and politics, has died after a long battle with cancer. He was 87.

Jacqueline Milagros Acosta-Bruno was born Nov. 17, 2002 at Washoe Medical Center in Reno, Nev., to Claudia Bruno and Hector Acosta. She has four younger brothers and sisters, all attending Carson City Schools, as well as a sibling just 18-months-old.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office sergeant who was injured in a Dec. 20 shooting is returning to his Carson City home from the hospital today, Tuesday with a full law enforcement escort.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is requesting assistance with locating a missing person. Frank Figearo was last seen in mid-October 2020, leaving his motel room in Carson City, Nevada. Mr. Figearo allegedly told a neighbor he was traveling out of state for business.

A 28-year-old man was booked into jail Wednesday on a felony Lyon County warrant, a Carson City Sheriff's Office report states.

A Douglas County Sheriff's Office sergeant is recovering after being shot three times late Sunday in Gardnerville. Two suspects are in custody and are being held in Carson City. The following news release was issued from DCSO:

Governor Sisolak announced Monday via social media that the first shipment of the approved Moderna COVID-19 vaccine has arrived in Northern Nevada, showing photos supplied by Carson City Health and Human Services.

Early this year, Carson Tahoe Health began to pivot service lines and conserve personal protective equipment (PPE).

UPDATE: From the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Facebook page: On Dec. 20, 2020 at approximately 11:15 p.m. an officer Involved shooting occurred in Douglas County NV near Douglas Ave in Gardnerville, NV.

The incident is currently under investigations and no suspects are outstanding. The Suspect is currently being treated at the hospital for injuries. Highway 395/Gillman to Waterloo remain closed. The Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to please avoid the area. More information will be released when it becomes available.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office will be the lead investigation agency, as protocol for officer involved shootings to have an outside agency investigate, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong. There are two suspects who were in a vehicle, a male and female, who were involved in the incident. Both are in custody, said Furlong. The condition of the injured officer is unknown at this time.

A Douglas County sheriff's officer was shot and suffered serious injuries late Sunday night following an incident in Gardnerville. Two suspects are in custody, according to dispatch reports.
