Carson City’s rich and intriguing history officially celebrates 30 years as we explore, narrate and theatrically embrace Carson City’s beautiful Victorian founding in these seasonal evening walking tours, led by Madame Curry (a spirited and historically fictional character named after the widow of Carson City’s founder, Abe Curry) and her Spirit Wranglers.

To kick off the 2022 museum season, the HSDV is holding an in-person March Membership Meeting at the Dayton Valley Community Center, 170 Pike Street, Old Town Dayton, to tell our community news on the opening of our Schoolhouse Museum, rebuilding our Railroad Depot, plans for St. Ann's Chapel, member tours, and opportunities to help preserve Dayton History.

The Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) announces its exhibition, "Photo Finished 2021", at the Community Development Building (the Brick), 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City through March 25, 2021.

CARSON CITY — The League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada will host a virtual community meeting on Jan. 23 from 10 am to noon. The meeting will tell the story of the fight for women’s suffrage starting with the history of the beginning of women’s battle to get the vote in America.

Nevada Humanities has been awarded $50,000 by The Federation of State Humanities Councils and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation as part of a new national initiative, Why It Matters: Civic and Electoral Participation, which will explore civic participation as it relates to electoral engagement in a multivocal democracy.

With the new year, a new set of laws is once again taking effect.

Of the hundreds of bills the Legislature passed in 2019, nine finally became effective either in whole or in part on Friday with the start of the new year and as the next legislative session is set to begin in February.

It was an eventful year around the Carson City region notwithstanding the limitations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Here's some notable stories that were not pandemic related that happened in 2020.

The Nevada State Museum, Carson City offers a slate of in-person and online programs in January, ranging from online family projects to historical lectures. The offerings fall under four different programs: Family Fun Saturday and the Francis Humphrey Lecture Series, both occurring online, as well as Coin Press No. 1 demonstrations and Curator’s Corner programming, both available in-person at the museum. The Carson City School District, on behalf of the Rotary Club of Carson City, is pleased to announce Carson High School’s Librarian Ananda Campbell as the winner of a $5,000 grant to fund a historical documentation project titled The Story of Carson High School. Nearly a half dozen applications from teachers and teams of teachers were received for this competitive grant.

The Carson City Symphony has completed "The Hank Monk Schottische" project, which organizers undertook because the pandemic has limited the Symphony's usual interactions with each other and the public.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. The annual Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights holiday celebration goes virtual on Friday. Santa Claus will arrive virtually at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada and in-person at Battle Born Harley Davidson on Saturday for pictures with families and kids of all ages. MINDEN — After consultation with the Douglas County Officials, the Towns, public safety agencies, and Douglas County Emergency Management it was determined in-person public holiday events at the Towns of Gardnerville, Genoa, and Minden, as well as the 25th Annual Parade of Lights hosted by the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce have been cancelled.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region. The November Gobble Wine Walk kicks off in downtown Carson City followed by a new “Paths and Pedals” bike tour. Sierra Lutheran High School is also hosting a Christmas craft fair on Saturday. Combined with live music and virtual events, there’s plenty of activity happening in the state capital! In recognition of National Native American Heritage Month, Western Nevada College is proud to share the history and artwork of the Wahoe (Washiw) Tribe of Nevada and California.

Heading into the final weekend of October, Halloween and Nevada Day events will keep revelers busy through Sunday making for a jam packed weekend of fun for families and grownups around the Carson City region.

The annual Nevada Day Chili feed at the Carson Nugget and a historic east-side tour of Carson City are among two new events have been added to this weekend's roster of Nevada Day festivities.

Verne R. Horton of Carson City, Nevada passed away at his residence on October 19, 2020. He was born February 1, 1941 in Los Angeles, CA and is survived by loving and devoted wife of 23 years, Brenda; sons Sean and Scott, daughter Debra, 5 grandchildren and brother, Jim Horton.

Carson City, Dayton area youth conservation organization River Wranglers will meet Friday, October 23, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. for a work and education event designed to help protect cottonwoods from beaver damage.

Each October, Nevadans turn their attention to the state capitol, Carson City, home of the “official” Nevada Day Parade. Since 1938, the Nevada Day Parade in Carson City has been an annual coming together to celebrate Nevada’s heritage and the founding of this great state on October 31, 1864.

CARSON CITY — V&T Railway is celebrating Halloween with family-friendly and spooky railbike rides. Running Friday, Oct. 23 through Sunday, Oct. 25 and Wednesday, Oct. 28 through Sunday, Oct. 31, V&T Railway will offer children and adult focused haunted railbike rides at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively.

The Carson City Historical Society will be hosting a Zoom Memorial for Ron Machado on Saturday, October 10, at 11:00 a.m.

Ron passed away on May 27, 2020.

Ron was the last founding member of the Nevada Landmarks Society, which eventually became the Carson City Historical Society.

Six Carson City and one Lyon County project are among 16 statewide recipients of Community Development Block Grant funding through a federal program administered by the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development, officials announced Monday.
