Virtual cabaret, Pokemon party, art and more highlight weekend events in Carson City region

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. New safety guidelines for the state of Nevada have been enforced, so please make sure to bring a mask and practice social distancing.

Friday, July 24
Bookend summer with great reads, activities during 2020 Carson City Library Learning Challenge (all day). From June 13 to July 31, Summer Learning Challenge participants complete a certain number of virtual programs, activities and reading, depending on their age. Prizes are earned for registration and completion, and participants track all their reading time in a simple app. Everyone who registers will be eligible to receive a special take-home kit, with fun activities to log with their reading.

Capital City Arts Initiative presents 'H20 2020' exhibition. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 885 E. Musser St. The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, "H2O 2020", with work by eight Great Basin artists at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery: Cyndy Brenneman, Vanessa Martinez, Nolan Preece, Nancy Raven, Craig Sheppard, Dylan Silver, Cathryne Trachok, and Candida Webb. The exhibition will be in the gallery through Sept. 24, 2020.

Nevada Artists Association Spirit of America Show. 12 to 4 p.m. at 449 W. King St. The Spirit of America proves to be alive and well in this judged show. Entries are from Nevada Artists Association NAA member and non-member artists from Northern Nevada and are divided into judged categories including oils, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, dry media, 3D art, photography, digital art and mixed media. Everyone is invited to the awards presentation and reception.

FUNdraiser for advocates to end domestic violence at Classy Seconds. 2 to 4 p.m. at 3590 Gordon St. We are big supporters of AEDV's cause, and we participated in their biggest fundraiser, Taste of Downtown, last year. We want to continue to do our part to support this nonprofit's purpose to support, serve, shelter, and empower survivors.

Dancing Class at Yaple's Ballroom Dance Studio. 3 p.m. at 315 N. Carson St. Join us for some dancing! No partner needed. Learn dance steps to all Ballroom and Latin dances. A Mix of mini dance routines and line dances. Improve turns and balance. Good for anyone who is wanting to learn to dance.

Beers in the Brewery at The Union Carson. 4 to 5 p.m. 302 N. Carson St. Join us in the brewery every Friday for a free beer tasting! Come and stop by the brewery to taste a couple of our house beers and have a few small bites while we teach you what makes each of our featured beers unique and delicious!

RicyRich at Bella Vita Bistro. 5 to 8 p.m. at 1304 S. Stewart St. Come see RichyRich will be at Bella Vita Friday July 24 out on our patio! Come on out enjoy some amazing food and good music!

Virtual Open Mic Night at A to Zen. 6 p.m. at 1803 N. Carson St. In light of COVID-19, A to Zen Gift Shop in Carson City is hosting a virtual open mic night every Friday at 6 p.m. Interested participants can record their performance and send the video with the link above.

Living the Good Life's Sixth Anniversary Celebration. 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at 1480 N. Carson St. We will be playing some good ol' rock n roll and your favorite music at Living the Good Life Nightclub-Bistro in Carson City.

WHP Virtual Cabaret Drive-In Finale. 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. at 449 W. King St. Join us for an evening at the drive-in featuring the best performances from our Spring/Summer Virtual Cabaret series! Our Wild Horse kids and teens sent in so many creative, funny, and amazing songs while on lockdown, and we are excited to celebrate their performances with a drive-in event using the movie screen at the Brewery Arts Center.

Friday Night Karaoke at the Whiskey Tavern. 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at 3481 Hwy 50 E. in Carson City. Come hang out with the Whiskey Tavern and J and M Productions as we sing the night away every Friday! Must be at least 21 years old.

Saturday, July 25

Bellydance with Starr. 8 to 9:30 a.m. at Yaple’s Ballroom Dance Studio, 315 N. Carson St. Saturday mornings join my Circle of Sisters, all levels are welcome. You must RSVP by text message, we are limited to six people during the paradigm of a pandemic. AND - if you are high risk please stay at home until Nevada moves out of phase 3.

Children's Museum, Carson City CASA to host Pokemon Go Party. 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 813 N. Carson St. The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada and Court Appointed Special Advocate are having a community event dedicated to Pokemon Go and family fun. The event includes playing Pokemon Go, a scavenger hunt, a costume contest, raffle prizes, and so much more.

Virginia Truckee Railroad offers weekend train rides from Virginia City to Gold Hill. 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 166 F Street in Virginia City. Looking for something fun and safe to do this summer? Take your family and friends on a trip back in time aboard The Virginia Truckee Railroad. This 35-minute ride runs seven times each day, beginning at 10:30am. The last rain leaves at 4 p.m. Fares are $14 for adults and $7 for children ages 5-12. Kids aged four and under ride free. Tickets are available at the depot, or online at virginiatruckee.com.

Members-Only Shopping Sale at Browsers Corner Book Store. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 711 E. Washington St. Special Saturday shopping hours are available to current members of the Friends of the Carson City Library (FoCCL).

Coin Press Demonstrations at the Nevada State Museum. 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 600 N. Carson St. Historic coin press demonstrations are back at the Nevada State Museum. Come on down and see the excitement with family and friends!

BAC's Flatbed Concert Series continues featuring Spike McGuire. 6 to 9 p.m. at 449 W. King St. Somewhere between punk and folk is Spike McGuire. He is also the founder of Loud As Folk, a monthly songwriters series in his hometown Reno and an internationally touring artist that has performed in 16 states and five countries.

Live Music at Living the Good Life. 6:30 p.m. at 1480 N. Carson St. Come out and enjoy patio dining with live music by Nigel St. Hubbins! Let’s have a good time.

DaVinci and Drinks at the Carson Valley Art Center. 7 to 10 p.m. at 1539 Hwy 395 Suite 2 in Gardnerville. Come and enjoy some drinks and art exhibits at the Carson Valley Art Center! Tickets are $35 per person.

Sunday, July 26

Long Practice at Carson City Yoga. 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 305 N. Carson St. Long Practice with Molly Dahl will be offered in studio AND live stream. There are limited spaces available in the studio, so be sure to sign up in advance!

Desert Pigs Community Blood Drive in Dayton. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Dayton Village Pkwy. Life-saving blood offers second chances and many tomorrows to those who depend on it. Camp GOTR (Girls on the Run) is coming to Carson City for the second year in a row! Camp GOTR will be a week-long, half-day summer camp from 8 AM- 12 PM at the Carson City Community Center the week of August 5th- August 9th.

Girls on the Run Sierras is a character-building program for girls in 3rd through 8th grade operating in the Reno-Tahoe area.
