Bravo! Wild Horse Children’s Theater (WHCT) Junior Theater Festival Performance Troupe recently brought home top honors at the Junior Theater Festival West (JTF) in Sacramento, CA.

The featured speaker at Carson City's June 14th Democratic luncheon will be wild horse and burro ecologist and biologist Craig Downer. His appearance follows on from the extended presentation on climate change he gave at the April 26th tele-luncheon, when there was insufficient time to summarize the points made or engage in a question and answer session with in-person attendees and those who took advantage of the full-length, on-demand video recording. All those seeking such clarifications are encouraged to attend.

We miss the stage, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make theater. Wild Horse Children’s Theater is looking for young actors, singers, and dancers, ages 10 and up for our new Virtual Broadway Workshop.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. The annual Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights holiday celebration goes virtual on Friday. Santa Claus will arrive virtually at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada and in-person at Battle Born Harley Davidson on Saturday for pictures with families and kids of all ages. Join two of your favorite Disney Princesses for an entertaining and fun interactive workshop, through Carson City's Wild Horse Theater, to build literary skills using imagination and creativity. Workshop includes storytelling, singing, interactive movements and, most importantly, having fun.

The results are in. Students laughed at them because they had to dress differently, today, but they laughed at the students, too, because they were all dressed the same.

Heading into the final weekend of October, Halloween and Nevada Day events will keep revelers busy through Sunday making for a jam packed weekend of fun for families and grownups around the Carson City region.

When inmate Austin Miller started working with wild horses nearly two years ago at the Stewart Conservation Camp in Carson City, he knew very little about horses.

Lyon County is investigating a complaint that road department personnel allegedly harassed wild horses early Monday near Lahontan Street and US 95A in Silver Springs.

The Ghost Train is returning to Carson City from the dead. The Carson City Railroad Association, in partnership with Wild Horse Productions, will be reviving the yearly Halloween tradition of the Ghost Train at Mills Park in Carson City.

Before COVID-19 hit the capital city, Trick or Treating had been changed to Friday, Oct. 30 since the Nevada Day Parade was falling on Oct. 31 this year.

Despite the parade being cancelled, Trick or Treating is still going to be held Oct. 30 at this time, unless otherwise directed by Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Franktown Apples in Washoe Valley is hosting apple picking Friday through Sunday. In celebration of National Public Lands Day, Nevada State Parks will have a fee-free day on Saturday filled with hikes and tours. Wild Horse Productions is excited to revive the yearly tradition of the Halloween "Ghost Train" at Mills Park in partnership with the Carson City Railroad Association.

Fifteen Carson City non-profits were awarded nearly $800,000 in COVID-19 relief funding via the CARES act during the Board of Supervisor's meeting held Thursday.

The State of Nevada through the CARES Act has allocated over $10 million in Coronavirus Relief Funds “CRF” to Carson City. Carson City’s Preliminary Plan of Expenditure allocated $1 million to be awarded to non-profit organizations located in Carson City.

The Brewery Arts Center normally provides the Levitt-Amp concert series throughout the summer, but due to COVID-19 the festivities were cancelled this year. The BAC, however, along with several Carson City community partners, stepped up to bring safe family fun to the capital city, including the Flatbed Concert Series and drive-in movie nights.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Arts Council has issued $392,250 in federal funds to 79 arts organizations through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Grant amounts ranged from $1,000 to $10,000, based on each group’s total annual revenue.

The coronavirus isn’t stopping Wild Horse Productions from continuing its theater arts productions and programs and keeping our young actors engaged!

This summer will be different as WHP is replacing its’ in-person summer programming for 2020 with a virtual experience.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will be held Thursday, June 4 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

On the docket for discussion includes approving contracts of new and current employees, a wastewater agreement with Lyon County, a diesel tax and more.

The community theatre companies in Carson City and Douglas County, along with our local performance venues, have created a coalition with the goal of navigating the challenges specific to our local theatre community brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Students from Wild Horse Children's Theater in Carson City won a Freddie G Excellence in Music national theater award and earned recognition at the 2020 Junior Theater Festival West, which happened Feb. 7-9, 2020 at Wells Fargo Pavilion.
