A man and woman were arrested Christmas morning for suspicion of felony burglary after they were seen on surveillance video attempting to break into a safe belonging to their employer, a Carson City sheriff's deputy report states.

COVID-19 has devestated small businesses around the country, especially those that rely on foot traffic as a means of getting people through the door. But as people work to protect their health by staying indoors and ordering online, small businesses tend to suffer. However, in Carson City, the community response has been strong this holiday season, and shoppers have been taking advantage of both in-person shopping as well as online shopping through local vendors.

CARSON CITY, Nev. — As social restrictions continue in support of public health, risks associated with isolation permeate among the aging population. According to a Wells Fargo study conducted by The Harris Poll from Nov. 17-19 , a quarter (25%) of all seniors age 60 and above report feeling isolated and lonely, and over a third (43%) can go days without talking to others and spend most of their time alone.

The first business at the new Cochise Crossing shopping center located at the corner of Cochise and S. Carson Street, Chick-Fil-A, will have a grand opening on Jan. 21, 2021. This will be Carson City’s first Chick-Fil-A.

The Rotary Club of Carson City is helping spread holiday cheer to many Carson City families this holiday season. This week club members donated $2,650 to the Salvation Army serving Carson City and Douglas County.

You can visit the North Pole safely as part of a drive-thru Santa's Village experience at V&T Railway in Carson City, beginning Friday into the weekend. The Sertoma Coat Drive is in full operation for its fourth year of collecting and distributing clothing to the people in the community who are without warm outerwear. With 19 blue barrels in Carson Valley and 7 in Carson City, everyone who wants to donate new and gently used coats, blankets, and warm outerwear is finding a donation spot.

Many in Carson City do everything they can to help the less fortunate, and those opportunities never cease being opportunities. With this in mind, the holidays are here, the semester at Carson High School is almost over, Christmas vacation, also known as winter break, begins Dec. 19, and there is another opportunity to be generous for those who have plenty.

However this year, many stores are finally closing their doors on Thanksgiving Day, and more bargain hunters are turning to online deals for their holiday shopping.

With the restrictions put in place across Nevada to curb the coronavirus pandemic, Holiday with a Hero organizers considered canceling this year’s event.

Two food drives are happening Thursday at two locations in Carson City. One drive is to collect Thanksgiving turkeys for families in need, and the other is a drive to help feed family pets.

Talk Turkey To Me! Friends In Service Helping is hosting their annual High Five Turkey Drive this Thursday, Nov. 12 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Nissan Carson City, 2750 S Carson St.

East Fork Fire and Carson City Fire Department were called Wednesday afternoon to a small brush fire in the area of Mica Drive and Vista Grande Boulevard in Douglas County.

Retailers in Nevada and throughout the United States are ramping up hiring campaigns for the all-important holiday shopping season. In the Silver State, the Retail Association of Nevada estimates retailers will boost hiring by 4,700 positions during the holiday shopping period.
