Carson City region braces for hard fall freeze; forecasters say bring in the pets, tomato plants

From sunny days and warm temperatures to anticipated overnight freezing ahead, fall weather will arrive over the next few days around the Carson City region, prompting a freeze watch by the National Weather Service and a warning for gardeners to bring in the tomato plants and other fall vegetables that haven't been harvested.

I’ve been watching the apple buds, waiting to see swelling begin, waiting for color to start showing. Last week I was excited to finally see a bit of color. Then, snow and overnight lows in the low twenties hit, which is just like last year, when we had no apples. I hope the cold doesn’t kill the blossoms and my apple crop again this year.

Chinese New Year, Carson Comedy Club's military appreciation night, live music and more: Carson City region readies for weekend

Heading into the last weekend of January there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include a Chinese New Year Celebration at the Nevada State Museum and the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada. The Carson Comedy Club hosts its first Military Appreciation Night on Friday at the Carson Nugget. Carson Valley’s 18th annual Eagles and AG Photo Contest will be underway and live music will keep the Silver State buzzing with excitement. Read on for more information.

Carson City’s 'The Wheelhouse' moves to new location near Mills Park

Carson City’s The Wheelhouse, which specializes in all things skating, scootering, bicycling and more, has moved their location to 1800 E. William Street, Suite No. 1, to be closer to the Mills Park Skate Park and more centrally located within town.

The Wheelhouse has always been heavily involved in the Carson City community, from hosting skate and scooter competitions to one-on-one training sessions with kids, all with the value of instilling confidence and camaraderie in mind.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the KTVN Share Your Christmas Food Drive at the Governor's Mansion in Carson City and at Minden's Carson Valley Inn, Homestead Holidays at the Silver Saddle Ranch and more. The Polar Express Train Rides are sold out for the rest of the year, but Santa Train express rides are steaming up at the Nevada State Railroad Museum over the weekend. Read on for details.

End of an Era: Creator and founder of Downtown Carson City Santa Parade retires

For 20 years I have been bringing Christmas events to Downtown Carson City, beginning in 2000 when I had my retail store on Telegraph Square with Santa and his real reindeer. The Santa Parade was created in 2007 and was always the Saturday after the Silver and Snowflake festival originating at Telegraph Square to bring awareness to the existing businesses in the area.

Radio Meets Film on It's Your City featuring Carson City Classic Cinema Club

In this week's edition of It's Your City, host Cortney Bloomer sits down with Rhonda Abend from Carson City Classic Cinema Club to talk about classic films, tonight's showing of "Charade" and her weekly radio show about films.
