Happy Saturday Carson City! There are a ton of great events in the region this weekend, it’ll be hard to choose which ones to attend! Music, food and fun await below. Check to see what’s happening for this weekend!

Saturday, January 25
18th annual Eagles and AG Photo Contest (all day). Carson Valley’s Gathering of Eagles and Celebration of Agriculture is ready for its 18th year, with the event scheduled forThursday, January 23rd through Sunday, January 26th. From our opening reception and photography exhibit on Thursday evening, to the Falconers Dinner on Friday, the tours and photo workshops on Saturday, to the guided hike on Sunday, we’re ready for another great year!

Mason Valley Beekeepers to host introduction workshop into bees and beekeeping. 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lions Clubhouse, 7 N. West St. in Yerrington. The Mason Valley Beekeepers will hold a one-day workshop Jan. 25 for people wanting to start beekeeping or for those interested in learning more about the amazing honey bee. You will be given all the basic knowledge to get started in beekeeping.

Sign Ups begin for Carson City Little League. 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Governors Field, 500 E. Evalyn Dr. Grab a bat and get swinging Carson City! Baseball season is just around the corner and sign ups for Carson City Little League will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25. Please bring a birth certificate and proof of address.

Range Safety Officer Class. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Battleborn Ammunition and Firearms Inc., 4630 US Highway 50 E. in Carson City. The NRA Range Safety Officer (RSO) program was developed in response to the demand for a nationally recognized range safety officer certification. To become an NRA Range Safety Officer, you must pass the RSO course and demonstrate that you possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations

Carson City museums to ring in Chinese New Year this Saturday. 10 a.m. at the Nevada State Museum and the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada. Hand-made noisemakers, dancing, music and a short parade will all help usher in The Year of the Rat in Carson City this Saturday, Jan. 25. The Nevada State Museum and Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada are once again collaborating for the annual Chinese New Year festivities.

Guided snowshoe hikes with a ranger on the Carson Ranger District. 10 a.m. The Carson Ranger District on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest is pleased to announce the return of the popular Forest Ranger-led snowshoe walks. The walks start on Saturday, Jan. 25, and will be offered every Saturday through March 28.

Nevada Artists Association New Year's Show. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 449 W. King St. NAA presents its New Year's Show with 124 entries by member artists. Additionally, water colorist, Melanie Walters and potter, Nancy Brownrigg are our Featured Artists and have their exhibits on the back wall of the Gallery. These shows run through February 14. The Gallery is located at 449 W. King Street and is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. everyday except Monday. Family Reading Program at the Carson City Library. 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. at 900 N. Roop St. Through a partnership with Northern Nevada Literacy Council, the Carson City Library provides a free literacy program that offers easy-to-learn tips for parents on how to read books with children to support children’s literacy. Each family will receive a free book. Come read and learn with us!

Dayton Golf Course hosts chili cookoff, tasting and silent auction to benefit Food Pantry. 1 p.m. at 101 Palmer Dr. in Dayton. The Dayton Chili Cookers are partnering with Healthy Communities Coalition’s Dayton Food Pantry for their annual chili cookoff, silent auction, and raffle to benefit the Pantry. Organizers say the community made this event a big success last year, when more than $3,700 was raised, and they are excited to see the turn out this year.

Asian Cuisine Cooking Class at Sierra Chef. 1 to 3 p.m. at 2292 Main St. Suites 3 and 4 in Genoa. It’s that time of year to try new cuisines and different flavors! Sierra Chef will hold a asian cooking class on Saturday, Jan. 25 for any interested participants. $65 per person, arrive on time for class.

Saturday Beginning Wheel Throwing at Ogres-Holm Pottery. 1 to 4 p.m. at 1215 S. Carson St. The Ogres of Ogres-Holm introduce you to clay in this 6-week open start class, including open studio time, is designed to get you started. It’s a great way to relax on a Saturday afternoon. $175 for 6 weekly sessions or $45 drop ins.

LEGO Club at the Carson City Library. 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at 900 N. Roop St. Build self-led creations through hands-on learning with LEGO Education materials. Participants 9 and under must be accompanied by a caregiver of at least 13 years of age at all times.

Carson High School Baseball Poker Night. 5 to 10 p.m. at Fuji Park, 601 Old Clear Creek Rd. Doors open at 5:00 for Dinner; Poker starts at 6:00pm sharp! No late entries and limited seats! We sell out every year! Contact you favorite CHS baseball player for tickets or message us!

Scientist to cover theories of Earth and life's origins at WNC Carson City lecture. 6 p.m. at the Western Nevada College Jack C. Davis Observatory, 2269 Vanpatten Ave. Learn about the theories of how life formed on Earth and the possibility of life on other planets during aquatic ecologist Marianne Denton’s presentation “Astrobiology: We’re Still Figuring Out How Life Started on Earth” this Saturday, Jan. 25 at Western Nevada College's Jack. C. Davis Observatory.

Loud As Folk Hosted by Spike McGuire coming to Brewery Arts Center. 7 p.m. at 511 W. King St. Come to Brewery Art Center’s Performance Hall on January 25, 2020 to experience Loud As Folk, hosted by Spike McGuire. Landscape Design Workshop. 10 a.m. at Greenhouse Garden Center, 2450 S. Curry St. Any person attending the workshop will receive 15 percent off any landscape plants purchased during the 2020 season. Lunch will be provided for both days. All materials will be provided.

'Refuse To Be A Victim' crime prevention, safety seminar to be held in Carson City. 1 p.m. at Battle Born Ammunition & Firearms Training Room, 4630 US Highway 50 E Unit 7 Carson City. Developed in response to nationwide requests for crime prevention seminars, Refuse To Be A Victim teaches methods to avoid dangerous situations and prevent criminal confrontations. Seminar participants will be presented with a variety of common sense crime prevention and personal safety strategies and devices that may be integrated into their personal, home, automobile, telephone, technological, and travel security.

Mosaic Class 101 Offered in Dayton. 1 to 3:30 p.m. at 5000 E. Hwy 50. If you are interested in learning mosaic, there's a class offered in Dayton this month especially for you. This is Mosaic Class 101 and is a 2 to 2 ½-hour class and is designed to help you learn to use the bare necessities and to help you plan for your next project. Your Mosaic 101 project is an 8-inch stepping stone.

Paint Your Pet Class. 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Picasso and Wine Carson City, 3821 S. Carson St. Join us at Picasso & Wine for the popular Paint Your Pet Event! This is unlike our normal painting classes because each person will have a unique pet photo. Picasso & Wine artists will assist in the selection of your palette, answer questions you have, and offer advice, tips and suggestions if needed—but this is an individual creative venture. You’ll work at your own pace (up to 3 hours). Paint Your Pet is a more advanced painting. It is highly recommended that you attend at least one painting event prior to painting your pet. Misfits Theater Group Holds Auditions for Spring Melodrama. 6 p.m. at the Dayton Library, 321 Dayton Valley Rd. The Misfits Theater Group in Dayton is holding auditions for its Spring melodrama “Showdown at Phingerdoo or Bad Day at Dead Frog Flats” on Sunday, January 26 at 6 p.m. at the Dayton Library, 321 Dayton Valley Rd, Dayton. This old-time melodrama directed by Andra Woolman is set in the Wild West and has a cast of eight men and five women.

Sunday Evening at Living the Good Life. 6 p.m. at 1480 N. Carson St. Come celebrate with us on Sunday with a fun evening full of food, drinks and entertainment for all to enjoy!

Dinner and Wine Tastings at Genoa Town Hall. 6 to 9 p.m. at 2287 Main St. in Genoa. Kick back and enjoy yourself this Sunday with a delicious dinner and wine tastings at the Genoa Town Hall. A craft selection of fine cuisine and wines will be on service from 6 to 9 p.m.

UPDATE THURSDAY: The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the two people who died Wednesday morning following the two vehicle crash on I-580 in Carson City. They are Alejandra Hernandez Valtierra, 36, and Viola Santoyo Huizar, 48, both of Carson City.

UPDATE 12:42PM: Southbound I-580 in Carson City was opened as of around 11 a.m., said a Nevada State Police spokeswoman, who provided more details of the fatal crash that happened early Wednesday morning.

Both the driver of a car and a truck involved in the crash died. Their names have not been released pending notification of family members. The car, which was going the wrong way — northbound in the southbound lane — struck the truck and caught on fire, according to a NSP preliminary investigation thus far. The vehicle makes are unknown at this time.

Dayton Elementary School in Lyon County was honored Wednesday along 13 other schools including Carson High in Carson City as a Nevada Purple Star School.

Schools receiving the designation have committed to supporting the educational and social-emotional needs of military-connected children and their families.

Junior Park Ranger Day is back this Saturday, April 27 at Riverview Park in Carson City.

Junior Park Ranger Day is an annual event dedicated to help kids complete their Junior Ranger Adventure Guides and be sworn in all in one day.

Carson City School District hosted a ceremony Wednesday morning with local dignitaries from the Nevada Department of Education and officers from local military bases. Carson High School was honored with a Nevada Purple Star School designation for supporting military-connected students and their families.

A 37-year-old man was arrested for suspicion of obstruction, trespassing and felony sex offender failing to register, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Laura Ricks, TOSA/Instructional Coach at Empire Elementary School, was honored as the Carson City School District’s Educator of the Year, at the Tuesday, April 23, school board meeting and annual event.

Additionally, Sandra Guzzetta, special education paraprofessional at Bordewich Bray Elementary School, was recognized as the Education Support Professional Employee of the Year, and Chelise Crookshanks, principal at Mark Twain Elementary School, was recognized as the district’s Administrator of the Year.

Tickets are now available for this summer’s Capital City Brewfest. This year’s event takes place June 22 on Curry Street at McFadden Plaza in Carson City. More than two dozen brewers, as well as several food trucks, will line the street from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Plus there will be live music on the McFadden Plaza stage.
