Two were arrested Sunday on felony charges of grand larceny after they allegedly attempted to steal more than $700 in merchandise for Kohl’s department store, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said. One of the two also faces an additional felony charge after an alleged theft of more than $680 in merchandise at Walmart.

The Carson City area is awash in entertainment, shopping, and family-friendly options this weekend. DAYTON, Nev. — Community Roots garden center has expanded to offer unique gifts, floral arrangements, and holiday centerpieces and is now located at 209 Dayton Valley Road. Part of the nonprofit Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey, Community Roots and Shoots' proceeds help support community and school gardens, teen job skills programs and more.

Dayton, Nevada– The public is warmly invited to join dietitian Kim Mason and chef Cynthia Kroon for a healthy cooking demonstration, followed by dinner, on Monday November 20, 2017 at 5:30pm at the Dayton Valley Community Center at 170 Pike Street. The class is completely free, no need to register, and everyone is welcome.

Although Veterans Day was observed yesterday, there are several things today that honor our former members of the military. Battle Born Harley Davidson is throwing an appreciation party complete with food trucks. Virginia City’s annual Veterans Day Parade begins at 11 a.m. and the City of Reno will commence their parade after a short ceremony beginning at 11:11 a.m. You’ll find an abundance of craft fairs in Carson City, Carson Valley, and Dayton. The Harvest Train at the Nevada Railroad Museum is a fun treat for kids of all ages. It’s time for the annual all-day downtown Ghost Walk. From 10 a.m.

Dayton, Nevada – Beginning Oct. 1 through the annual seasonal close of Community Roots in late Fall, customers will receive 30 percent off of their entire purchase. The valley is alive with the sound of music: the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival, to be specific. Just about everywhere you go, you’ll be treated to something to soothe the soul or get the toes tapping. Get the kids up early for the Young Eagle Flights at the Carson City Airport – they’re free, but you need to be on time for registration. What to do, what to do? That’s the question that starts most every weekend. If you’ve got kids, test their mettle at the annual Capitol City Triathlon. Open to kids of all ages, they will bike, run, and swim their way to the finish line. The third annual Sassabration event kicks off with a multi-colored, costume bike parade from the Brewery Arts Center to the celebration at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint. Multiple bands, vendors, non-profit booths, free swimming at the Carson Hot Springs, not to mention the yummy food and drink available make this a not-to-be-missed festival.

Let the good times roll, Carson City. Cars, chrome, choppers, and kruzers are in abundance. Run Whatcha Brung at Fuji Park is open to any and all cars that can get themselves there. The Rockabilly Riot and T Bucket Alliance at Mills Park is an American Graffiti flashback. Cheer on our local motorcycle cops at the Extreme Motor Challenge, or hop on your own bike and go on a poker run with the Lords of Iron Motorcycle Club.

FRIDAY:

The weekends seem to start earlier in summertime. Head down to Mills Park for the first of the rat-rods rolling in for this weekend’s Rockabilly Riot and to catch the motorcycle cops running some practice loops around the obstacle course. Seniors can head to the Community Center for vouchers good at the Third and Curry Farmers Market, residency and income restrictions apply. Join Mo’z Motley Blues on the lawn of the Dangberg Home Historic Ranch for a summer twilight concert – bring a chair or blanket, I suggest some bug spray and a picnic, as well.

THURSDAY:

Happy Wednesday, Carson City. The Wild West is still alive and well; the Reno Rodeo and Carnival is going on right now. Snowshoe Thompson comes to life at the Dangberg Home Historic Ranch as Steven Hale performs a Chautauqua tonight. Head over to the Carson Mall for their Home and Garden Show. The Greenhouse Garden Center has set up lovely displays and will help you find just the right thing to make your yard a little slice of heaven. Tonight you can choose a jazz jam, karaoke, or trivia to get you over the mid-week hump.

WEDNESDAY:

There will be a Carson City Home and Garden Show at the Carson Mall, June 21-24, 2017. The event is coordinated by Greenhouse Garden Center.

If you are looking for home and garden improvement ideas, you will find them at the Carson Mall at the Home/Garden Show. Displays, seminars, decorating ideas, Indoor/outdoor items.

Parker Lehmann of Carson City led an effort Saturday morning to clean up weeds and other vegetation around the "C" on C Hill and to move the painted rocks back into their original position.

Planes, trains, and automobiles take over Carson City this weekend. Steampunk ‘N’ Trains at the Nevada Railroad Museum features train rides, fun costumes, food trucks and more. You’ll find two car shows in town – the Party at the Pavilion as part of the Nevada State Fair and the Carson City Downtown Revival Car Show at the Carson Nugget. It’s going to be gorgeous all weekend long, and there are plenty of ways to take advantage of the sunny weather. Today has quite a bit going for it, hard to believe that it’s a Wednesday. Learn more about the Craft Brew industry in Nevada and how to support its growth at the ‘Free My Beer Festival’ at Fox Brewpub. Fritch Elementary School is the beneficiary of tonight’s ‘McTeacher’ Night fundraiser at the South Carson McDonalds; both drive-thru and dine-in orders count. It’s Red vs. Blue in the Morse Burley Gym at Carson High School. The traditional basketball game between Democrat and Republican legislators also raises money for local seniors.

Holy moly, it’s going to be a busy weekend: busy and gorgeous out. A bowling tournament and the Comstock Shootout Soccer tournament have the hotels and motels busting at the seams. Celebrate Earth Day with Muscle Powered by making a small piece of Carson City that much cleaner; the trash meets at 8 a.m. and leaves you plenty of time to enjoy the day.
