Events around Carson City for Wednesday, Sept. 25
Jamming into the midweek, events lined up for Wednesday, Sept. 25 around the capital city include a Carson City Chamber's Soup's On luncheon with a primer on blockchain. The Northern Nevada Development Authority will host its monthly Business Edge meeting at Casino Fandango with a focus on Nevada's energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives. Also happening: Fusion cooking classes at Healthy Communities Coalition’s Dayton headquarters, plus the Veterans Resource Group will make a visit to the Dayton Food Pantry. There's also a Wine and Moondance Chocolate Pairing at Expresso Yourself inside the Brewery Arts Center, plus art workshops and showings, Salsa dancing and more.

— Capital City Arts Initiative Presents: New Crop 2019. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Carson City Courthouse Gallery, 885 E. Musser St. The Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) presents its exhibition, New Crop 2019, by artists Mark Combs and Frances Melhop.
— Capital City Arts Initiative Presents: Constellation. 8 a.m. The Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) presents its exhibition, Constellation. Nine students from the University of Nevada Reno’s Bachelor of Fine Arts program have work in the exhibit. The free exhibition is available to the public now through Dec. 10, 2019 on Mondays – Fridays, 8:00 a.m. – noon and 1:00-4:00 p.m. The artists include Rachael Blizzard, Tessa Clawson, Josh Galarza, Robert Ibarra, Sandra Kramp, Carla Miller, Cesar Piedra, Shara Sinatra, and Amber Skilling. — Fusion Cooking demonstrations in Dayton. 10 a.m. Stop by Healthy Communities Coalition’s headquarters at 209 Dayton Valley Road for free cooking demonstrations on Wednesday and Thursday, anytime between 10am-2pm. The public is warmly invited to learn more about Indian and Mexican fusion cuisine with Rupa, a passionate cooking instructor. She’ll demonstrate how to incorporate some of the ingredients at Healthy Communities’ Dayton Food Pantry into affordable and healthy dishes crackling with flavor. Healthy Food Hub: The cooking demos are one part of the region’s Healthy Food Hub, an effort to increase access to and demand for affordable, nutritious and locally grown food. Healthy Communities promotes a number of initiatives and programs such as organic school and community gardens; gardening classes and clubs; summer farmers markets; school salad bars; volunteer-powered food pantries in Silver Springs, Yerington, and Dayton; Community Roots & Shoots nonprofit floral shop and garden center; and community cooking classes and wellness support groups that emphasize affordable, healthy menus. — Nevada Artists Association Art Gallery Autumn Membership Show, now through Oct. 18. Enjoy artwork from our member artists. Membership has risen to nearly 150 local artists during our 40th year operating as a gallery. The Autumn Membership show runs from Sept. 8 to Oct. 18 at Nevada Artists Association Art Gallery at 449 W. King Street in Carson City. Open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays. Also, save the date, Nov. 3 we will be hosting our 40th Anniversary Celebration on location at the Gallery, 2-4 p.m. Please join us in marking this historical occasion.
— Open Studio Painting at the Brewery Arts Center. 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Work on your own paintings from subject matter you chose for yourself. The instructor will provide one on one instruction throughout the class. Students may use oil, acrylic, or watercolor paint. Dry media is also welcome. Bring your own supplies and source materials (such as photographs or drawings you wish to paint). This in an open enrollment drop in class so there is no need to enroll in advance. — Carson City Chamber's Soup's On luncheon Wednesday to focus on blockchain. 11:30 a.m. A blockchain primer will be the focus of Carson City Chamber's Soup's On luncheon this Wednesday, Sept. 25 at Gold Dust West. The luncheon will discuss what blockchain is about, how secure it is, regulation and how it relates to cryptocurrency. The discussion will feature guests Matthew Digesti of Blockchains, Nevada State Senator Ben Kieckhefer and Eliza Cafferata, of Cafferata & Co. — Northern Nevada Development Authority's Business Edge focuses on energy efficiency, sustainability initiatives in Nevada. 11:30 a.m. at Casino Fandango. Northern Nevada Development Authority will heat things up with a presentation by Southwest Gas at The Business Edge meeting. Southwest Gas will present business energy-cost saving tips, natural gas as an energy source, and their renewable energy initiatives in Nevada. Southwest Gas provides natural gas service to Nevada, Arizona, and parts of California to over 2 million customers. NNDA’s The Business Edge is a monthly educational series providing information on issues and trends of interest to the northern Nevada business community. The meeting is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Casino Fandango, 3800 S. Carson St., Carson City. Go to www.nnda.org/events to register for the event.
— Veterans Resource Group Visits Dayton Food Pantry. Noon. Healthy Communities Coalition announces its new initative to host representatives from different veterans resource groups once a month at each of its volunteer-powered food pantries in Lyon County. They will be on hand at the Dayton Food Pantry to share information on Wednesday, Sept. 25 from noon to 4pm. They will also be at the Silver Stage Food Pantry to share information on Wednesday October 2 from 1pm-4pm. Veterans Upward Bound assists veterans in the development of academic and other skills for success in postsecondary education such as college. The program provides assessment and enhancement of basic skills through counseling, mentoring, tutoring and academic instruction in core subject areas. — Basic Pottery Skills at Ogres-Holm Pottery. 1 to 4 p.m. Studio manager, Lucas Lamont, introduces you to clay, in this 6-week open start class, designed to get you started with clay. The syllabus includes pinch pots, coil pots, sculpture, and an introduction to wheel throwing. $175 for 6 week class including open studio times or $45 for drop in classes. 1215 S. — Wine and Dine Watercolor Classes. 4:15 to 5:45 p.m. Students get a reminder text each week. Drop in basis — no monthly commitment necessary. — Wine and chocolate pairing Wednesday at Carson City's Expresso Yourself Cafe. 5 p.m. There will be a Wine and Chocolate Pairing on Wednesday Sept. 25, 2019 beginning at 5 p.m. at Expresso Yourself Cafe, located at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City. Hosted by Jeff "Vino" Williams, this fantastic new event will take place in the space of the Expresso Yourself Cafe and feature our very own Moondance Chocolates paired with wines hand selected by your host. $10 for members/$15 for non-members from 5pm to 7pm. — Spanish Night, Salsa Dance Lessons in Downtown Carson City. 6 p.m. SALSA Wednesdays located at Yaple's Ballroom Dance Studio, 315 N. Carson St. Carson City. Classes are 6 pm Intermediate Level Class, 7 pm Beginning Level Class. Just $10 a class. Then after your dance lesson, just for us food and drink specials offered across the street at Battle Born Social! The dance floor is open, music will be playing and you can continue dancing and practicing your dance moves! The Salsa Social will cost NOTHING, only but your support to the restaurant and bar.
