Signups underway for Kids & Horses 11th annual golf tournament

The Kids & Horses program is so excited to announce that we have our Gold Sponsor for our 11th annual charity golf tournament on June 9th, at Incline Village Championship Golf Course. Though they have chosen to remain anonymous, their generosity speaks volumes! Alzheimer’s disease the topic at Carson City Democratic luncheon

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Sandy Severance, Community Engagement Manager for the Alzheimer's Association of Northern Nevada. She will provide an overview of Alzheimer’s disease, dementia more generally, and Alzheimer’s Association services available locally. Topics include the impact of Alzheimer’s, myths and facts, risk factors, the 10 warning signs, and how others can join the fight against the disease.

Nevada nonprofit joins forces with Montana nonprofit focused on fighting sex trafficking

There are more than 365,000 missing children in the U.S. every year. Approximately 109,000 of them will be trafficked into sexual slavery or forced labor. Only 1% of Human trafficking victims are ever recovered. Two organizations dedicated to fighting the scourge of Human trafficking have just joined forces to combat this crime against humanity.

Young homicide victim posthumously receives bachelor of science degree in nursing from UNR

The Retired Investigators Guild and the University of Nevada, Reno jointly presented a posthumous bachelor of science degree in nursing in Markisha Hibbler’s name to her mother, Tinker Davis, at a dinner hosted on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023 in Reno.

Signups begin for fall memory loss workshops hosted by Carson area nonprofit Kids & Horses

Kids & Horses partners with Connected Horse to offer powerful workshops to individuals with memory loss and their care partners.

Based on research conducted at UC Davis and Stanford Universities, these workshops resulted in significant improvement in mood, increased positive perception of social support, and greater awareness and appreciation of the relationship between the person with memory loss and their care partner.

The Northern Nevada Dream Center, a Carson City based nonprofit, is holding its eighth annual Dream Christmas event, a mobile caravan of holiday joy and goodies for individuals and families in need.

Dream Center volunteers will be delivering Dream Christmas dinner bags, turkeys, hams, coats, hats, gloves and other holiday goodies to locations throughout Northern Nevada starting this Saturday, December 3th.

Salvation Army in Carson City hiring staff for youth programs

The Salvation Army in Carson City has long run before- and after-school programs for local children. However, a staffing shortage has put them in jeopardy. According to The Salvation Army’s Captain Holly Beeson, six people are needed to keep the programs going.

Operating costs such as rent and utilities make it impossible for a nonprofit whose main funding source has been cut by 75% to make ends meet.

Record number of Bald Eagles spotted during 2021 annual Tahoe count

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — It’s a banner year for Bald Eagles in Lake Tahoe. The Tahoe Institute of Natural Science reports that a record number of 42 Bald Eagles were spotted during its annual survey. The previous high was 27 set in 2017.

Nevada receives $1 million in grants to improve water quality, reduce pollution
