Spectrum store closes on North Carson Street, new location opens on Topsy Lane

Charter Communications, Inc. has opened a new Spectrum Store south of Carson City in Douglas County at Carson Valley Plaza on Topsy Lane and has closed the store on North Carson Street.

Juan’s Mexican Grill to open Monday in Downtown Carson City

Carson City’s newest Mexican eatery will be officially opening this Monday, Jan. 18 in its new downtown home.

Owners Juan and Maria Salazar have been running the first location of Juan’s Mexican Grill for years inside the Comstock Casino and this new location, which took over the venue left vacant by Battle Born Social, will be their second.

This is not their first time serving up Mexican cuisine in the downtown area. Juan’s used to operate both inside the old Mo and Sluggo’s (now the Pourhouse) as well as the Horseshoe Club (now closed).

Finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) show initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 17,755 for the week ending August 8, up 4,028 claims, or 29.3 percent, compared to last week’s total of 13,727 claims. Through the week ending August 8, there have been 642,572 initial claims filed in 2020, 620,920 of which have been filed since the week ending March 14.

DETR: Regular Initial and Continued Claims Decline for First Time Since June; PUA Initial Claims Fall

Finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) show initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 13,727 for the week ending August 1, down 4,663 claims, or 25.4 percent, compared to last week’s total of 18,390 claims.

This is the first decline in weekly initial claims since week ending June 20. Through the week ending August 1, there have been 624,817 initial claims filed in 2020, 603,165 of which have been filed since the week ending March 14.

DETR: Regular Initial Claims up 18%; Continued Claims at 2nd Highest Weekly Total in State History; PUA Initial Claims Rise to 34,000

Finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) show initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 18,390 for the week ending July 25, up 2,842 claims, or 18.3 percent, compared to last week’s total of 15,548 claims.

DETR: Initial Claims Rise Again; Continued Claims Back Above 300,000; PUA Initial Claims Fall Below 20,000

Finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) show initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 15,548 for the week ending July 18, up 882 claims, or 6.0 percent, compared to last week’s total of 14,666.

This is the fourth consecutive week of increases in regular initial claims. Through the week ending July 18, there have been 592,700 initial claims filed in 2020, 571,048 of which have been filed since the week ending March 14.

Finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) show initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 12,484 for the week ending July 4, up 1,374 claims, or 12.4 percent, compared to last week’s total of 11,110. This is the second consecutive week of increases in regular initial claims.

Through the week ending July 4, there have been 562,486 initial claims filed in 2020, 540,834 of which have been filed since the week ending March 14.

Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range annual passes available following $800K in improvements

Finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) show initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 10,347 for the week ending June 20, down 273 claims, or 2.6 percent, compared to last week’s total of 10,620. This is the eighth consecutive week of declines in regular initial claims.

Through the week ending June 20, there have been 538,892 initial claims filed in 2020, 517,240 of which have been filed since the week ending March 14.

DETR: Regular Continued Claims Decline as Economy Begins to Reopen, PUA Continued Claims Total Nearly 93,000

Finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) show initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 10,620 for the week ending June 13, down 128 claims, or 1.2 percent, compared to last week’s total of 10,748. This is the seventh consecutive week of declines in regular initial claims. Through the week ending June 13, there have been 528,545 initial claims filed in 2020, 506,893 of which have come in the last fourteen weeks.

PlayBox Marketplace, a second hand goods store, opens shop on Highway 50 in Carson City

A second hand store has opened up shop on Highway 50 E. in Carson City near Airport Road, and it’s offering 5,000 square feet of unique offerings.

PlayBox Marketplace opened their new location at 3060 U.S. Highway 50 E. on June 1 according to owner Alex Kyser, after they moved from a much smaller location near Classy Seconds.

The Carson City Seventh-day Adventist Church Food Pantry is open on Sundays from 10:00 AM-2:00 PM and Tuesdays from 5:30 PM-7:30 PM. The Multipurpose Athletic Center has reopened and the Carson City Aquatic Facility and Carson City Community Center are gearing towards reopening on Monday, June 8.

Finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) show initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 11,337 for the week ending May 30, down 4,270 claims, or 27.4 percent compared to last week’s total of 15,607.

This is the fifth consecutive week of declines in regular initial claims. Through the week ending May 30, there have been 507,177 initial claims filed in 2020, 485,525 of which have come in the last twelve weeks.
