Saturday, October 12

— V&T Railway ends season this weekend with steam, 150th anniversary and Toast of the Canyon train rides (all day). V&T Railway will bring its event-filled 2019 season to a close this weekend with a final 150th Anniversary train on Friday, Oct. 11, vintage steam trains on Saturday, Oct. 12 and Sunday, Oct. 13 and a Toast of the Canyon spirits train on Saturday, Oct. 12 following the steam train. The Carson City to Virginia City trains will depart Carson City’s Eastgate Depot at 10 a.m., arriving in Virginia City at 11:30 a.m. and returning to Carson at 4:15 p.m. The Toast of the Canyon train takes place immediately following the steam train’s return, beginning at 4:15 p.m. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit the V&T Railway website or call (877) 724-5007.

— Flying Pig Indoor Flea Market. 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fuji Park Exhibit Hall, 601 Old Clear Creek Rd. Come on down for some fun at the market! You never know what you will find at the flea market. Many vendors to choose from with arts, crafts, antiques, jewelry and so much more. Open Sat. October. 12..8-3 and Sun. 9-3.. Admission is $1 for adults and kids under 18 are free. — Registration open for early childhood professional development conference at WNC. 8:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in WNC’s Bristlecone Building, 2201 W. College Parkway. Early childhood professionals will have the opportunity for professional development on Saturday, Oct. 12 at Western Nevada College in Carson City. Two training sessions are offered: 8:15-10:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m

— Carson Nugget, Food For Thought team up for children's winter coat drive. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 3246 North Carson Street. Carson Nugget and the Carson City based Food for Thought organization are hosting a coat drive for children now through Nov. 15. Organizers of this drive are asking for donations of new coats, for children ages 5 to 18, which will be distributed to children at the Kids Christmas Brunch, to be held Dec. 23 at the Carson Nugget Grand Ballroom.

— 27th annual Carson City Pumpkin Patch this Saturday at Seeliger Elementary. 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 2800 Saliman Rd. Celebrating nearly three decades of turning the round, orange members of the squash family into memorable Halloween carving traditions, Seeliger Elementary School in Carson City will host its 27th annual Pumpkin Patch this Saturday, Oct. 12.

— Donovan Mill guided history walk featured at Dayton State Park. 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Meet at the northwest corner of the Gold Ranch Casino, across from Dayton State Park in Dayton, NV. Dayton is located 12 miles east of Carson City, NV on U.S. Highway 50. Join park staff for a guided hike from the Rock Point Mill at Dayton State Park to the historic Donovan Mill in Silver City. Advance reservations are required for this hike and are limited to 20 people.

— Carson City Moose Lodge to host Fall Poker Run. 10 a.m. at 1475 Old Hot Springs Rd. Proceeds benefit Moose Charities and the Carson City Moose Lodge to help support our community. There's no better feeling than making a difference in the lives of children, seniors and communities.

— Scandinavian Festival comes to Carson City. 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Family, 1201 Saliman Road. The 12th Annual Scandinavian Festival brings the rich traditions of Norwegian history and culture to Carson City on Saturday, Oct 12. Demonstrations of traditional food and music along with examples of the traditional “Bunad” clothing. Great baked goods and the classic Norwegian open-faced sandwiches are among the fair for lunch. Traditional Nordic music will be performed the Carson City Symphony Youth Strings.

— Carson City Lions Club to host annual White Can Days fundraiser. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Walmart near East College Parkway. Members of the Carson City Host Lions Club will gather at the WalMart near East College Parkway on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 12-13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day to bring awareness to the public of the sight preservation programs the Lions support, and to raise funds as part of the annual White Cane Days. Lions will provide information about vision preservation programs available, increase awareness of the white cane traffic safety laws, and collect used eyeglasses for distribution to those in need.

— Guided tours of the Nevada State Capitol. Two separate tours will take place at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. every Saturday in Carson City. Tours typically take an hour and include both the exterior of the building, nearby memorials as well as the interior of the building. Tours are available for up to 20 people on a first-come, first-served basis. The building includes numerous historic artifacts that range from portraits of past Nevada governors to sculptures to historical items showcased during Nevada’s Sesquicentennial celebration. The Capitol remains open to the public Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Guided tours of up to 20 people can be arranged in advance by calling the Nevada State Museum’s Education Program at 775-687-4810, ext. 237.

— Coin press demonstrations at the Nevada State Museum. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 600 N. Carson Street. Visitors to the Nevada State Museum can watch the museum’s historic Coin Press No. 1 carry on a mission it started nearly 150 years ago in the very same building. The venerable press which churned out millions of dollars in silver and gold coins during stints at U.S. Mints in Carson City, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Denver between 1870 and 1964. The press demonstrations will take place the last Friday of the month with two-person teams of volunteers not only working the press but sharing its history with museum visitors.

— Fundraising and Charity Pistol Match. 12 p.m. at the Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range. Sandwiches will be provided throughout the event. Cost is $50 per person. Briefing will begin at 12:30 p.m.

— Pumpkins + Bingo = PINGO!. 1 to 3 p.m. at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville. Pumpkins plus Bingo = PINGO! Join us Saturday, Oct. 12 for two lively, all ages Bingo sessions to win pumpkins and more. The event is at Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville. — CHS Theater Aims High: 'Peter and the Starcatcher' opens at Community Center. 7 p.m. at 851 E. William Street. See the backstory of Peter Pan and how he learned to fly as Carson High School Theatre Arts presents "Peter and the Starcatcher," opening this Friday at the Bob Boldrick Theater in the Carson City Community Center. This hilarious play, written by Rick Elice, and based on a book by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, is the prequel to the beloved story of "Peter Pan." Learn how Peter and Captain Hook became enemies, who taught Peter to fly, and the creation of the story everyone loves.

— Saturday Night Star Party at WNC. 7:30 to 9 p.m. at the Jack C. Davis Observatory, 2699 Vanpatten Ave. The Jack C Davis Observatory hosts free star parties on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month year round, starting at 7:30 p.m. (except when there is snow on the roads). The evening starts with a lecture on one of numerous topics and concludes with guided star viewing by one of our astronomers. Mike Thomas lectures 2nd Saturdays and Dr. Tom Herring lectures on 4th Saturdays.

— RoseBud's Dance Band Masquerade Ball. 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center, 449 W. King Street. The Rose Buds Dance Band presents the Masquerade Ball at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City on Saturday, Oct. 12. Get ready to have a great time with a live 18-piece band. Masks and costumes are optional but if you don’t wear one you may not win the costume contest!

— Jen Murphy at the Carson Comedy Club. 8 p.m. at 507 N. Carson Street. This Friday and Saturday, Comedian Jen Murphy will be performing at The Carson Comedy Club in Carson City! Jen Murphy is a nationally touring comedian with an innocent look and sharp wit. Her side-splitting delivery has landed her headlining gigs at comedy clubs and festivals across the country! She has a half hour special called “This is Why You’re Still Single,” that’s aired on the TLC network. Doors open at 7:15 p.m.

— October Full Moon Hike up Prison Hill. 8:30 to 10 p.m. Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space will host its October Full Moon Hike up Prison Hill on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 8:30 to 10 p.m., with the trail lit by the light of the moon. Those who are interested should meet at the new Prison Hill 5th Street Trailhead on the corner of Carson River Road and 5th Street, and make sure to bring clothing layers, water, a flashlight or headlamp, and hiking shoes.

— Hauntober returns to Virginia City. Throughout the month of October, Virginia City will be hosting several events to shine light on its spooky past.
