It was an eventful year around the Carson City region notwithstanding the limitations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Here's some notable stories that were not pandemic related that happened in 2020.

Traffic is backed up on Highway 50 E. near Dump Road due to the Santa Village event at the V&T Railroad.

Motorists should use caution and thru traffic should stay in the left lane.

Stan Jones appointed as Carson City's newest Supervisor, to take Lori Bagwell's remaining term

The Carson City Board of Supervisors appointed the newest Board member on Thursday afternoon, to fill the role of Lori Bagwell, who was recently elected as Carson City’s newest mayor. Her seat represents Ward 3.

Carson City's historic east side tour, chili feed at Carson Nugget added to Nevada Day event roster

The annual Nevada Day Chili feed at the Carson Nugget and a historic east-side tour of Carson City are among two new events have been added to this weekend's roster of Nevada Day festivities.

Balloon launch, beard and rock drilling contests, 'reverse parade' among Nevada Day 2020 events

Each October, Nevadans turn their attention to the state capitol, Carson City, home of the “official” Nevada Day Parade. Since 1938, the Nevada Day Parade in Carson City has been an annual coming together to celebrate Nevada’s heritage and the founding of this great state on October 31, 1864.

Five Carson City residents vying for Ward 3 seat on Board of Supervisors, appointment on Nov. 4

While the seat for Ward 2 will be filled following the election on Nov. 4, another seat is open and will be filled by appointment.

The seat for Ward 3 is currently held by Supervisor Lori Bagwell, who will be vacating now that she has been elected Carson City’s mayor.

Spirits Abound in Virginia City this October with multiple spooky events

The historic mining town of Virginia City is regarded as one of America’s most haunted cities. This October 31 and throughout the month, uncover spooky tales and festive family adventures for all ages – all aligned to accommodate current restrictions and guidelines – during “Hauntober.”

Train rides, railbike tours, live music and more highlight Labor Day weekend events around Carson City

Heading into Labor Day weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Steam train rides in Carson City and Virginia City will be available Saturday through Sunday. The Carson Canyon Railbike Tours will run four times over the next three days, bringing excitement unlike any other. Sand Harbor in Lake Tahoe will open two hours early beginning at 6 a.m. to ease capacity and congestion. Combined with plenty of live music, Labor Day weekend will be a thrill! Railroad museum, women's history project to commemorate Carson City Suffrage train Saturday

The V&T Railroad played an important role in Nevada's suffrage history. It delivered VIP eastern suffragists to Carson City to discuss suffrage with Governor Boyle in 1916, and it ferried ardent Nevada suffragists from Reno to Carson City to participate in Governor Boyle's signing of our nations 19th Suffrage Amendment ratification on February 7, 1920.

CARSON CITY — The old saying that legends never die might also be said about old locomotives. Many of those iron horses, long lost to time or the scrap heap, live on through historic photographs, artwork and the hearts and minds and skillful hands of railroad buffs.

Carson City’s Mayor Bob Crowell delivers his last ‘State of the City’ address

During the annual “State of the City” address Friday at Gold Dust West, Carson City’s Mayor Bob Crowell gave his last speech of its kind, as he is retiring at the end of this year.

The State of the City address is a way community members can be kept up to date on everything going on in our capital city, including achievements, challenges, and everything in between.

Updates included achievements such as the completion of the water pipeline from Douglas County to Carson City, the Complete Streets Project, Tesla’s grant for the Carson City School District, the first new park opening in 12 years, the opening of the Disc Golf course, and more.

‘Collecting Carson City’ part of Saturday’s Mint150 program

The Nevada State Museum in Carson City continues it series of Mint150 programs on Saturday with tours of the Mint building, a lecture on collecting Carson City memorabilia and a demonstration of historic Coin Press No. 1.

The Mint150 programs, the third Saturday of each month, are all up to the sesquicentennial of the U.S. Branch Mint in February 2020. The Nevada State Museum is housed in the former U.S. Mint building.
