Carson City Symphony Association is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard “Ricky” Hutton as Director of Carson Chamber Singers. His connection with the Carson Chamber Singers goes back to the summer of 2019, when he directed the Singers in the June Pops Party concert in Carson City and the July 4th concert in Genoa.

The Carson City Symphony Association presentation of “Joyful Noise — A Holiday Treat” concert is available for viewing on the Carson City Symphony channel on YouTube here and from Facebook.com/CarsonCitySymphony here. The concert features John and Cherie Shipley with their Joyful Noise Chorus and Band. They have been performing "Joyful Noise" concerts each December since 2002.

Jonah Toral, Nathan Parsons, and Bita Jazani were awarded the fifth annual Rosemary Nebesky Memorial Scholarships by the Carson City Symphony Association this month. The scholarship was established by John and Jennifer Webley of Santa Rosa, Calif., in memory Rosemary Nebesky, who loved music, loved children, and had been a friend and board member of the Carson City Symphony Association.

Carson City Symphony Association announces release of Project Euterpe Episode 11 featuring the Carson Chamber Singers, an affiliate of the Carson City Symphony, performing "Hodie Christus natus est," by Dutch composer, organist, and teacher Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck. Choral Director Richard "Ricky" Hutton leads the 27 singers and brass quintet.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Several fundraisers, including the annual “Share Your Christmas” Food Drive will be available throughout the Carson City, Minden and Reno areas on Friday. You can visit the North Pole safely as part of a drive-thru Santa's Village experience at V&T Railway in Carson City, beginning Friday into the weekend. The Carson City Symphony has completed "The Hank Monk Schottische" project, which organizers undertook because the pandemic has limited the Symphony's usual interactions with each other and the public.

UPDATE: There will be no live audience. The guidance from the city changed after the original press release was released. Anyone who bought tickets ahead of time can get reimbursed or have the money donated to the Carson City Symphony Assoc. The Carson City Symphony Association announces the fifth annual instrumental music scholarship for Carson City students age 5 to 17. The scholarship was established by a generous gift from Jennifer and John Webley in memory of Rosemary Nebesky, former board member and friend of the Carson City Symphony Association.

Carson City Symphony Association announces release of Project Euterpe, Episode 8: Gibson-Rosen Violin Duo. It features Laura Gibson and Emma Rosen, a mother-daughter team on violins.

Heading into the final weekend of October, Halloween and Nevada Day events will keep revelers busy through Sunday making for a jam packed weekend of fun for families and grownups around the Carson City region.

Reverend Dr. Gary Robert Buchanan, local composer, conductor, Sonatherapist, minister at the International Community of Christ, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away on October 16, 2020, after a year-long fight against cancer. He is survived by his wife Amanda Buchanan, sons Bradley Buchanan of Ventura, California, and Kym Buchanan of Wisconsin, daughter Amy Buchanan-Rodriquez of Reno, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Carson City Symphony Association announces release of Project Euterpe Episode 7, Flute Fun al Fresco. It features flutists Edith Isidoro-Mills and Michelle Powers, who played five short pieces while observing social distancing on a lawn.

Lions Club kicks off its annual “White Cane Days” Saturday and Sunday in Carson City to increase awareness of the white cane traffic safety laws, and collect used eyeglasses for distribution to those in need. Local business Wizard of Pawz grooming salon hosts a socially-distanced grand opening on Saturday afternoon, followed by a pool tournament at Bulldog Billiards at 6 p.m. Combined with live music and karaoke, the state capitol will be packed with excitement! The Carson City Symphony, directed by David Bugli, will open its 37th season with a virtual community music and dance project celebrating Carson City history, the “Hank Monk Schottische” virtual performance project. Instrumental musicians and dancers of all ages are invited to participate.

Classical Tahoe, a celebration of classical music that aims to enrich the cultural and community vitality of Lake Tahoe, is adapting its annual Orchestra Festival to a Chamber Music Series in Incline Village from July 30 to August 16. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect the careers of musicians and artists, the performance nonprofit seeks to bring awareness on how chamber groups can perform safely for the community while providing a transformative, intimate music experience.

Nevada Humanities is pleased to announce the awards for Nevada Humanities CARES: Emergency Relief Grants for Nevada Humanities and Cultural Organizations. Forty-six cultural and humanities organizations across Nevada received $368,873 in federal CARES Act grants.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Arts Council has issued $392,250 in federal funds to 79 arts organizations through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Grant amounts ranged from $1,000 to $10,000, based on each group’s total annual revenue.

In honor of Father's Day 2020, Episode 5 of Carson City Symphony’s Project Euterpe presents music by Franz Joseph Haydn, known as “Papa Haydn, the father of the symphony and father of the string quartet."

In Episode 4 of Carson City Symphony’s Project Euterpe, Conductor David Bugli interviews entertainer Tom Miller. Tom is a singer, songwriter, guitarist, flutist, saxophonist, and luthier (maker of string instruments), among other things. He was featured soloist on the Symphony 35th annual Pops Party Concert at Nevada's Capital Amphitheater last year.

In Episode 3 of Carson City Symphony’s Project Euterpe, Conductor David Bugli introduces the Rimsky-Korsakov String Quartet from St. Petersburg, Russia, playing "Nocturne" from Alexander Borodin's String Quartet No. 2.

This recital was performed in a Carson City home on March 15, 2019, and features Mikhail Bondarev and Ekaterina Belisova, violin; Alexi Popov, viola; and Anton Andreev, cello.

The Carson City Symphony and its associated ensembles have been entertaining people in the Carson City area for 36 seasons. Because they can't currently perform live, in person, they are producing a series of once-or-twice-weekly video episodes to showcase the talents of their local artists, ensembles, and guest artists.

Mike Smith, Ward 4 candidate for the Carson City Board of Supervisors, will be the featured speaker at Monday's virtual Democratic luncheon. A retired high school principal, Smith currently serves on the Redevelopment Authority's Citizens Committee and the Symphony Association's Board of Trustees.

To our Community: The Greenhouse Project board in conjunction with John Procaccini and Chili Bop Productions, has concluded that in light of the current COVID-19 situation, this year’s Concert Under the Stars is cancelled. This event has taken place the last 11 years in order to grow a thriving agricultural education program on the campus of Carson High School.

“We did our free clinic at the Community Center, and what a turnout we had; around 100 participants showed up, we had a ton of fun, and we even had high school varsity players help coach the clinic as well” said Carson High School Varsity Basketball coach Jordan Glover.
