Nevada Humanities awards nearly $369K to 46 statewide cultural organizations
Nevada Humanities is pleased to announce the awards for Nevada Humanities CARES: Emergency Relief Grants for Nevada Humanities and Cultural Organizations. Forty-six cultural and humanities organizations across Nevada received $368,873 in federal CARES Act grants.
Funding was distributed by Nevada Humanities to organizations representing all four Congressional districts and statewide in Reno/Sparks, Las Vegas/Henderson, and rural Nevada. These grants will provide rapid-response, short-term operating support for Nevada nonprofit humanities and cultural organizations facing financial hardship and duress resulting from the COVID-19 health emergency.
This Nevada Humanities CARES grant program will support general operating costs during these unprecedented times, not specific programs or projects. Awardees have organizational missions that are humanities focused and/or demonstrate a commitment to public humanities or educational programming accessible to all Nevadans.
“Nevada Humanities is honored to join the national effort by providing relief to our vital humanities-focused cultural infrastructure in Nevada. Our cultural nonprofit organizations and their staff members are struggling, and we hope these grants will provide some much needed assistance to help pay salaries and keep the lights on around the state,” said Christina Barr, executive director of Nevada Humanities. “Our goal is to help sustain Nevada’s cultural infrastructure as much as possible given the hurdles that we all face. We are so proud to be able to help our Nevada cultural communities, and we hope that we will emerge from these experiences stronger than ever.”
