Nevada Humanities awards $194,000+ in grants to 30 Nevada Cultural Organizations

Thirty cultural organizations across Nevada have been awarded $194,110 in Major Project Grants by Nevada Humanities.

These grants fund humanities projects across the state and benefit nonprofit organizations and government and tribal entities, including libraries, museums, and schools to fund public and educational programs in the humanities. Nevada Humanities Major Project Grants offer up to $7,500 to facilitate local cultural programs and explore issues that matter to Nevadans.

Nevada to participate in national survey to study economic impact of community arts

The Nevada Arts Council will participate in a national research study, known as Arts and Economic Prosperity 5, to measure the economic impact of nonprofit arts organizations and their audiences.

The study is being conducted by Americans for the Arts, the leading nonprofit arts organization for advancing the arts in the United States. The Council is one of nearly 300 study partners across the U.S. that will help with gathering detailed financial and event attendance data from nonprofit arts and cultural organizations during 2016.

Mary Covington named to Nevada Arts Council post

The Nevada Arts Council has hired Mary Works Covington of Carson City as its community arts development program coordinator. A native Nevadan, Covington grew up in Silver City and has traveled to every corner of the state. Well-versed in the history of Nevada, she has connections with a number of the state's arts and cultural organizations as a consultant, program specialist and artist.

Citizen-at-Large seat open on the Carson City Cultural Commission

Residents who are interested in serving on the Carson City Cultural Commission, which serves as the official advisor to the Carson City Board of Supervisors on matters related to the cultural life of the community, are encouraged to apply for a "Citizen-at-Large" open seat. Applications are being accept now though Feb. 7.

Celebration of Arts on Sunday to launch Nevada governor inauguration of Brian Sandoval

The inauguration of Nevada's 29th governor, Brian Sandoval, will begin on Sunday with a celebration of arts in Carson City and then continue on Monday with the official ceremony at 11:30 a.m. on the steps of the state capitol.

Beginning on Sunday, Jan. 2, from 1 to 5 p.m., cultural organizations in downtown Carson City will open their doors to offer free music and dance performances, demonstrations by traditional artists, visual arts and history exhibitions, children’s activities and shopping opportunities.

Seats open for Carson City Cultural Commission, River Advisory

The Carson City Board of Supervisors is seeking applications from individuals who may be interested in serving on the Carson City Cultural Commission and the Carson River Advisory Committee.

For the Cultural Commission there are two positions open for "citizen at large" that are three-year terms that expire January 2014.
