Events around Carson City for Tuesday, March 3
The thaw continues around the capital city as we head into Tuesday with highs expected in the mid-50s. Events lined up feature morning and evening walks hosted by Muscle Powered, Carson City TRIAD will give a presentation at the senior center on scams targeting older adults. Also on tap, the Carson City Classic Cinema Club presents a Jimmy Stewart favorite "You Can't Take it With You" at the BAC; if you love music, there's Big-Band Jazz X2 at the Carson City Community Center, and you can join Carson Now as it celebrates its 10th anniversary at Living the Good Life.

Here's what's happening Tuesday:
— Muscle Powered Tuesday Morning Walk at Conestoga Trail. 9 a.m. Muscle Powered is a local non-profit organization that promotes walking, hiking, biking and trail building. The Tuesday morning, March 3 hike is at Conestoga Trail. Meet at the Powerline Road, 1/4 miles from Imus Road on Conestoga Drive. This is a dirt road. There is a slight elevation going up the dirt road at the beginning but from there it is mostly leveled. There is parking on the side of the street. Morning walks start at 9 a.m. and are 1 to 2 miles with duration of 1 hour with usually negligible elevation gain, and frequently on paved or smooth paths. — Capital City Arts Initiative to present 'Impact' exhibition featuring Lake Tahoe artist Paula Chung. Daily through May 28. The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition "Impact" by artist Paula Chung at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery in Carson City. The exhibition will be in the gallery through May 28, 2020. The Courthouse is located at 885 E Musser Street, Carson City. The reception and the exhibition are free and the public is cordially invited. The gallery is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Paula Chung’s Impact works address violence on sports fields, battlefields, and the streets. Through the use of medical imagery, she illustrates how violence affects us all.
— Capital City Arts Initiative presents 'Photo Finished 2020' exhibition. Daily. The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, Photo Finished 2020, at the Community Development Building, the Brick, 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City. Nine students from Carson High School’s Advanced Photography program have work in the exhibit. The free exhibition is available to the public through March 26, 2020, Mondays - Fridays, 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. The Carson High students include Jackie Garza, Ansley Griffin, Karla Herrera, Meagan Kiesow, Kayee Konze, Kailee Luschar, Vanessa Martinez, Haley Trost, and Valerie Wamsley. The artists are all students in Kara Ferrin’s Advanced Photography class.
— Nevada Artists Association Judged Winter Show to run through March 27. 10 a.m. Nevada Artists Association presents the Winter Show. This is a judged show presenting a wide array of entries from Northern Nevada artists. This show runs through March 27. The Gallery is located at 449 W. King Street in Carson City and is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. everyday, except Monday. — The Carson City Toastmasters meet Tuesdays. Noon at the Black Bear Diner, Max Casino in the Atrium in the back, to the right after entering Black Bear. Max Casino is located at 900 S Carson St Carson City. Membership Restriction: None; the club is open to all interested parties.
— Carson City TRIAD presents Scams Targeting Older Adults. 1 p.m. Carson City Nevada Triad presents Scams Targeting Older Adults a presentation designed to educate you on the current trends in frauds and scams and learn how to not fall victim to their ploys. The event will take place in the Joshua Tree Room at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive, Tuesday, March 3 from 1 to 2 p.m. Detective Josh Chaney from the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Fraud Unit will lead the discussion. The presentation is free of charge and open to the public. Lunch is served in the dining room from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and issued an invitation to community members to come have lunch prior to the presentation. Lunch is $6 for non-seniors and a suggested donation of $2.25 for seniors (60 and over).
— Carson Now turns 10, public invited to anniversary party at Living the Good Life. 5 to 7 p.m. Join Carson Now as it celebrates its 10th anniversary. Champagne and appetizers. 1480 N Carson Street, Carson City.
— Pole Fitness at Yaple's Dance Studio. 5 p.m. Pole is not what you think. It's for those looking for a fresh, challenging way to be fit. You will be fit unlike anything else. — Muscle Powered Tuesday Evening Hike at Mayor’s Park. 5:30 p.m. Join Muscle Powered for a free, guided group walk, hike, or ride around Carson City. Muscle Powered is a local non-profit organization that promotes walking, hiking, biking and trail building. A schedule of all upcoming activities and events can be found at musclepowered.org/calendar. March 3 - Mayor’s Park. Meet at the corner of Koontz Lane and Center Dr. We will walk on sidewalks in the neighborhood near the park. Flashlight required. Tuesday evening hikes start at 5:30 PM and are usually 1 1/2 hours or more duration and are 4-6 miles in length. Water, closed-toed shoes, and a headlamp/flashlight are required. — Pilates mat classes offered at the Brewery Arts Center. 5:30 p.m. If you are looking to strengthen your abdomen, hips, legs, arms, as well as maintain good posture, then Pilates is for you! It also has a strong mind/body connection that gives you an low impact targeted core workout. You’ll get stronger with more sculpted muscles and gain flexibility which can give you a better sense of well being all around. — Parents of Addicted Loved Ones hold meetings Tuesday evenings. 6 p.m. PAL provides education and support, at no cost, for family members (over 18) trying to save a son, daughter or family member from addiction to alcohol or drugs. By attending our meetings on Tuesdays, 6 p.m. at Partnership Carson City office at 1925 N Carson City St., you will give and receive support from others who are facing the same challenges you are.
— Empty Bowls, Open Studio. 6 to 8:30 p.m. Create an empty bowl to donate to charity, instruction will be offered to create and paint a bowl or create something on our own during open studio session. Open studio time at Ogres-Holm Pottery is free of charge and open to the public. 1215 South Carson Street.
— Swing Dance lessons at Yaple's Ballroom. 6 p.m. Looking for a date night idea? Want a night out with the friends! Grab the family and Swing on by Yaple's Ballroom! Come to our Swing Dancing Class. It is the best! It's great physical activity, great music, an easy going style that can help you connect with a partner easily. This is also a great style if you don't have a partner. When you come to class, single guys and gals rotate so that they get a chance to try the swing moves with a partner. If you bring a partner to class, you have the choice to rotate or stick with your partner! Every Tuesday at 6 pm and cost is just $10 to drop in. — Carson City Classic Cinema Club hosts ‘You Can't Take it With You.' 6 p.m. In his break-out role, Jimmy Stewart plays the son of a powerful banker who falls in love with a girl (Jean Arthur) from an eccentric family of free-thinkers, in this 1938 romantic comedy, directed by Frank Capra. Also featured are Lionel Barrymore, Ann Miller and Spring Byington. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. trivia and discussion begin at 6 p.m. and film at 6:30 p.m. General admission $5; free for members and students. Raffle proceeds at this screening are going directly to the Carson High School Chamber Orchestra to help them get to the Forum Music Festival in San Francisco, this spring. Film screenings are held at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall (511 W. King Street), on the first Tuesday of each month.
— Big-Band Jazz X2: Adults, middle schoolers host Carson City concert Tuesday. It's "big-band jazz times two" when the Mile High Jazz Band and Carson Middle School’s Royal Blue Jazz Band present the 17th annual combined Jazz Extravaganza concert, on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, at 7 p.m., in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street, Carson City. The Extravaganza is sponsored by the Mile High Jazz Band Association as a benefit for Carson City school instrumental music programs. Tickets are $10 general admission and free for youth age 18 and under. Tickets can be purchased in advance from Carson Middle School music students, at the Nevada Day Office (716 N. The program starts with 5-weeks of "off skates" training in which the coaches lead you through workouts geared at building up derby muscles, knowledge of the game and game play, and other important information to get you started. These will be held on Tuesdays. The cost for this portion of the program is $25. Bring water, dress appropriate for a work out, and bring a friend- we are an inclusive league and this is an inclusive sport, all genders, ages, body types. Everyone is welcome.
