The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Lisa Schuette, who has held the Ward 4 seat on the Carson City Board of Supervisors for the past three years. She also serves on the Audit Committee, the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC), the Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO), the Board of Health, the Redevelopment Authority, the Redevelopment Authority Citizens Committee, and the Parks and Recreation Commission.

Legacy Christian Academy will be opening as an early childhood to 8th grade Christian school in Carson City in the Fall of 2022. In this multi-day camp, you'll learn how a fish swims, how an elephant uses its trunk, and how a chameleon uses its tongue to grab items. Registration is required. Lunch and snacks will be provided.

Reimagining learning, the Carson City Library is bringing robotics technology and engineering to Carson City middle school students starting in February.

To discuss classroom-space expansion plans for Eagle Valley Middle School (EVMS), the Carson City School District will host an in-person meeting in the EVMS gym, Thursday, Jan. 21, at 6 p.m.

According to Teen Health and Wellness, Rosen Publishing, “Sharing stories is a powerful way to connect with other people. By sharing your own story, you can connect with other teens who are dealing with similar experiences. Your words can provide hope and comfort, or empower them to face their own challenges.”

The Carson City School District is pleased to announce new leadership roles for the School Board of Trustees. At their first meeting of the year Tuesday, Jan. 11, Joe Cacioppo, District 7, was named the newest president of the Carson City School District Board of Trustees.

The next Carson City School District School Board meeting will take place tonight, Tuesday Jan. 12 beginning at 7 p.m. at the Bob Boldrick Theater within the Carson City Community Center.

It was an eventful year around the Carson City region notwithstanding the limitations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Here's some notable stories that were not pandemic related that happened in 2020.

The virtual Reno TubaChristmas 2020 video is available for viewing here via Youtube. The video features tuba, euphonium, and baritone horn players of all ages from Northern Nevada and from California, Arizona, Oregon, Colorado, Kansas, New York, and Sweden.

The Carson City School District is celebrating two new National Board Certified Teachers from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. The teachers to be recognized earning certification are Patricia Ababio, Graphic Arts teacher in the Career and Technical Education program at Carson High School, and Rhonda Holloway, English teacher at Carson Middle School.

The Carson City School District will hold a special school board meeting Thursday, Dec. 17 in order to discuss reopening schools for third through fifth grade students at the elementary school level, as well as sixth grade students at the middle school level.

This year has been extremely challenging and with the impact of Covid; many of our families are struggling to ensure they can celebrate Christmas. However, generous community members have come together determined to help these families have a Christmas celebration not even Covid can stop.

The Sertoma Coat Drive is in full operation for its fourth year of collecting and distributing clothing to the people in the community who are without warm outerwear. With 19 blue barrels in Carson Valley and 7 in Carson City, everyone who wants to donate new and gently used coats, blankets, and warm outerwear is finding a donation spot.

Many in Carson City do everything they can to help the less fortunate, and those opportunities never cease being opportunities. With this in mind, the holidays are here, the semester at Carson High School is almost over, Christmas vacation, also known as winter break, begins Dec. 19, and there is another opportunity to be generous for those who have plenty.

An Eagle Valley Middle School teacher has been placed on administrative leave after a student accused him of making racially insensitive comments.

Pastor Tim Plummer, Fellowship of Christian Athletes Missionary Area Director, has once again brought Christmas trees to Carson City to support FCA. Christmas is fast approaching, and most agree it is the best time of the year. The holidays can be a difficult time for many, but it does not have to be this way.

The Carson City School District’s Board of Trustees is pleased to announce nine student winners of the 19th Annual American Citizen Essay Contest. Each winner will be recognized at the school board meeting Tuesday, Nov. 24, and will received the following cash prizes: First Place: $80, Second Place: $30 and Third Place: $15. The next Carson City School Board Meeting will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 24 in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street beginning at 7 p.m.

Reno has been presenting TubaChristmas performances since 1989 and the organizers aren't going to let a little global pandemic stop their fun this year! They invite tuba, euphonium, and baritone horn players of all ages to join virtual Reno TubaChristmas 2020.

Carson High School's NJROTC Drill and Color Guard team competed in their first ever ‘virtual’ drill competition hosted by University of North Carolina ROTC program. The various teams’ performances were captured on video and sent to the University for judging.

Utilizing analog and digital learning, students will build components of a bionic fish, elephant, and chameleon over the 3-day Bionics Camps designed to encourage STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) related career exploration and development.

The Carson City School District, on behalf of the Carson City Schools Foundation, is pleased to announce mini and department grant winners for Fall 2020. Each semester, CCSF gives back to educators and students alike. This last semester, the foundation awarded $200 mini-grants as well as up to $2,000 grants for a department, school or grade-level projects.

Lyon County School District has come away with four of the Nevada Association of School Boards 2020 Awards. Josh Wiley, rock-star teacher at Silver Stage Middle School, is recognized as the Innovative Educator of the Year.

The Carson City Library is hiring three interns to assist with a series of three-day Bionics Camps to be held in 2021. Carson City high school students who are interested in assisting with Bionics Camps are encouraged to apply by Nov. 22.

CARSON CITY — Eagle Valley Middle School went "dough to dough" in the Parent Teacher Organization’s annual cookie dough fundraiser. In total, the gross sales were equivalent to more than $15,597. The school earned about 70 percent of total gross sales, bringing the net total to $11,034. A total of 888 units were sold.

Carson Middle School STEM instructor, Katelyn O'Laughlin organized her students and staff members for a fall clean-up event in the Wetlands habitat. Efforts will continue Wednesday, Nov. 4 from when school ends at 2:15 to 4 p.m.

Carson City Health and Human Services is report an additional death Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2020 due to COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. The individual was a Lyon County resident. CCHHS is also reporting 29 new cases and 38 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 1,782, with 1,609 recoveries and 22 deaths; 151 cases remain active.
