'The Odd Couple' from a woman's POV, Greenhouse Project fundraiser, music and more this weekend around Carson City region

Heading into the weekend, there’s an abundance of activities around the capital city region over the next three days. The Brewery Arts Center hosts a female version of "The Odd Couple." Carson City's Greenhouse Project is hosting a lunch and dinner fundraiser toward a healthier State Capitol. Dale Poune will perform at Bella Vita Bistro, plus comedy at the Carson Nugget, the Nevada Caucus on Saturday, an open house at the historic Foreman-Roberts House, a Latin-themed concert at the community center and more. Carson City School District, Board of Supervisors to hold joint meeting Thursday

Carson City Schools hosts 'Screenagers' documentary viewing, talk on screen-time effects

The Carson City School District will host two showings of a 60-minute documentary titled "Screenagers Next Chapter — Uncovering Skills for Stress Resilience" Thursday, Feb. 20, at the Bob Boldrick Theatre in the Carson City Community Center. The two showings, beginning at 5:30 and 7:00 p.m., will be free and open to the public. Parents are encouraged to bring their children.

Looking ahead to Wednesday, we can expect sunny skies and continued highs in the mid-50s. Midweek events include a Dayton chamber breakfast with the founder of the Desert Pigs cleanup nonprofit group. CHS Agriculture Mechanics, Welding, and FFA Adviser and teacher Rebecca Glocknitzer said, "I know all of our students worked hard to prepare for Zone, and Mr. Mann and I are so proud of their efforts."

Carson City Sheriff's SET: Two teens arrested for allegedly selling marijuana to middle school children

The Carson City Special Enforcement Team, in conjunction with a Carson City School Resource Officer, made two arrests on Wednesday, Feb. 5 involving two 16-year-old juveniles.

Senator Square: Carson High School's NJROTC Orienteers compete; music, art students thrive

The CHS, NJROTC Orienteers competed in a weekend long orienteering festival in Anza Borrego State Park, Calif., Jan. 17-18. During the festival, team members competed in three different races over the two days.

Two Carson City school teachers earn national board certification, one renews

The Carson City School District is celebrating two new National Board Certified Teachers from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. Recognition will come at Tuesday’s school board meeting. NBCT is widely considered to be the highest professional recognition for educators and includes a five percent pay increase in acknowledgement of accomplished teaching.

Carson City School District releases statement after former CHS student's death

The Carson City School District issued the following statement Monday following the death Saturday of Carson High School 2017 graduate Jake Roman, whose mother, Susan Roman, is a teacher at Carson Middle School and Jake's father, Blair, who is the athletic director of Carson High School.

The Carson High School community is mourning the loss of Jake Roman, a 2017 CHS graduate and son of Athletic Director, teacher and head football coach Blair Roman. Jake died from injuries in a snowmobile accident at Lake Tahoe, according to friends of the family.

Carson High School student creates mock teen bedroom to help parents spot warning signs

Partnership Carson City youth high school program participant Nancy Mejorado, 17, is creating a mock teenage bedroom for parents and community leaders to better know how to spot drugs among youth belongings.

The mock bedroom, which is Mejorado’s Carson High School senior project, opens to the public 2:30-7 p.m. Jan. 22-23 at Partnership’s main office, 1925 N. Carson St.

Senator Square: Fellowship of Christian Athletes thanks Carson City community for support

Not only did the nonprofit organization Fellowship of Christian Athletes open their Christmas tree lot Nov. 24 to raise funds for their organization’s events and outreaches, they also supported other organizations and individuals by giving away 350 Angel Tree Christmas stockings and Christmas trees to Carson City children and families in need, and they also partnered with Sierra Lutheran High School to donate 75 trees to the US Marines at the Warfare Training Center in Coleville, Calif.

Diana Bañuelos, Nathan Parsons, and Viviana Castro were awarded the fourth annual Rosemary Nebesky Memorial Scholarships by the Carson City Symphony Association this month.

Silver Stage High is an exemplary demonstration of what it means to put students first and student success as the primary goal.

Carson City students have a ball with Vegas Golden Knights to encourage hockey in schools

P.E. Teachers and students celebrated when more than 50 hockey sticks, balls and reversible training jerseys as well as nets, goals and shooter tutors were donated to both Carson Middle School and Bordewich Bray Elementary School today.

The Vegas Golden Knights offered the equipment and materials during the hockey clinics.

False alarm: Carson Middle School evacuated briefly after fire alarm pulled

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies responded Wednesday afternoon for a fire alarm at Carson Middle School.
At around 1 p.m. a fire alarm went off at the school. According to CCFD Battalion Chief Jason Danen it was a false alarm and said someone pulled the manual pull station alarm. There wasn't any fire or smoke, he said. The school was briefly evacuated per protocol.

Carson City School District, trustees haul in awards at 2019 NASB Conference

The Carson City School District was a point of highlight at the Nevada Association of School Boards annual conference in Reno, the weekend prior to Thanksgiving. The school district and trustees hauled in nearly a quarter of all the awards (4 out of 19) among the 17 districts statewide.
