Heading into the first Thursday in March and we're looking at continued sunshine with a high near 70. Happenings lined up include a Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting, auditions for the Carson City Follies show in July, trivia night at Bella Vita Bistro, a wood design workshop at Rustically Divine, an artist reception for Galen Brown and Emily Kray at Western Nevada College and a Muscle Powered afternoon hike. Here's what's happening Thursday:
— Carson City supervisors to tackle water rate hike, pot dispensary hours and Halloween calendar change. 8:30 a.m. The Carson City Board of Supervisors will meet Thursday, March 5, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center located at 851 East William Street. Items on the docket for the meeting include an increase in water rates, proposed marijuana dispensary changes in allowed operating hours, trick-or-treating a day before Halloween, and more.
— Capital City Arts Initiative to present 'Impact' exhibition featuring Lake Tahoe artist Paula Chung. Daily through May 28. The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition "Impact" by artist Paula Chung at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery in Carson City. The exhibition will be in the gallery through May 28, 2020. The Courthouse is located at 885 E Musser Street, Carson City. The reception and the exhibition are free and the public is cordially invited. The gallery is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Paula Chung’s Impact works address violence on sports fields, battlefields, and the streets. Through the use of medical imagery, she illustrates how violence affects us all.
— Capital City Arts Initiative presents 'Photo Finished 2020' exhibition. Daily. The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, Photo Finished 2020, at the Community Development Building, the Brick, 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City. Nine students from Carson High School’s Advanced Photography program have work in the exhibit. The free exhibition is available to the public through March 26, 2020, Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. The Carson High students include Jackie Garza, Ansley Griffin, Karla Herrera, Meagan Kiesow, Kayee Konze, Kailee Luschar, Vanessa Martinez, Haley Trost, and Valerie Wamsley. The artists are all students in Kara Ferrin’s Advanced Photography class.
— Nevada Artists Association Judged Winter Show to run through March 27. 10 a.m. Nevada Artists Association presents the Winter Show. This is a judged show presenting a wide array of entries from Northern Nevada artists. This show runs through March 27. The Gallery is located at 449 W. King Street in Carson City and is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. everyday, except Monday. — Cardio and Strength Connection class offered through Carson Tahoe Wellness. If you've had problems with your heart, or have diabetes, a healthy lifestyle is the best way to get you feeling like you should. We've created Cardio and Strength Connection to help you develop a healthy exercise program in a safe and comfortable environment. Come join us every Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Health and Wellness Institute, Suite 250, 1470 Medical Pkwy. Cost: $10 monthly.
— Carson City Library hosts Family Storytime. 10:30 to 12:15 a.m. These are both the same and last 45 minutes. Weekly themed singing, stories, finger-plays, or art centered around a book. Participants 9 and under must be accompanied by a caregiver of at least 13 years of age at all times. 900 North Carson Street.
— Qigong Tai Chi by Kathryn Bricker. 1:15 p.m. Tai Chi Easy is a mind-body practice that combines gentle exercise, breathing, self-applied massage, and meditation to activate self-healing properties. — Muscle Powered Thursday Hike at Deadman's Creek. 3 p.m. Join Muscle Powered for a free, guided group walk, hike, or ride around Carson City. Muscle Powered is a local non-profit organization that promotes walking, hiking, biking and trail building. The Thursday, March 5 hike is at Deadman's Creek Trail. Meet at the north end of SaveMart on N. Carson street to carpool to trailhead on East Lake Blvd, Washoe Valley. Thursday hikes start at 3:00 PM and are 2-4 miles with duration of about 90 minutes, sometimes with elevation gains of 500’ or more. Water and closed-toed shoes are required. — Trivia Night at Bella Vita Bistro in Carson City. 4 to 7 p.m. Get your Trivia on! We are having trivia night here at Bella Vita on Thursday’s. Bella Vita Bistro is located at the Carson Mall, 1304 South Stewart St., Carson City.
— LEGO Club for kids at Carson City Library. 4 to 6 p.m. Build self-led creations through hands-on learning with LEGO Education materials. Participants 9 and under must be accompanied by a caregiver of at least 13 years of age at all times. 900 North Roop Street.
— Artist Reception for Galen Brown and Emily Kray at Western Nevada College. 5 to 7 p.m. Someone familiar to Carson City art lovers, as well as the walls of Western Nevada College art galleries, will share his artistic talent with hometown during spring semester. A couple of photo series by Galen Brown will fill the Bristlecone Art Gallery at WNC’s Carson City campus through March 7. "Selfie" will appear in the main gallery and "Passage" will be exhibited in the atrium gallery. The Carson City resident previously served as an instructor at WNC and his exhibits have appeared in galleries on the Carson City and Fallon campuses. Brown is known for his “lifelong” nontraditional artwork that comes in all shapes and sizes. His exhibits also vary because his expertise touches multiple mediums, including drawing, sculpture, photography and printmaking. An artist reception is planned for March 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Bristlecone Gallery. Emily Kray's artwork will be shown in the hallway gallery in the Bristlecone Building. Following’s Brown’s exhibit will be the annual Juried Student Art Show April 1 through May 14.

— Performers of all ages sought for Carson City Follies production ‘Comedy thru the Ages’. 6 p.m. Comedy thru the Ages, the 2020 production of the Carson Follies, is seeking actors, dancers, singers and stage personnel for its upcoming show July 10-12. Auditions will be held Thursday, March 5, and Tuesday, March 10, from 6-8 p.m. at the Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive in Carson City. No previous theater experience is required. The Follies, which is celebrating its 23rd year in production, is an annual fundraiser benefiting Meals on Wheels. In addition to performers, the production is also seeking sponsors. Meals on Wheels Carson City provides nutritious meals for over 300 homebound seniors daily, and expects demand to exceed more than 100,000 meals to local seniors this year.
