Jobs remain below typical levels, down 96,900 jobs since December 2019, for an annual decline of 6.8 percent according to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation’s (DETR) December 2020 economic report.

It’s the annual conundrum. Is it too soon to turn off the irrigation system? With recent nights down to the teens here in Washoe Valley, we turned off the irrigation system and drained it prior to the forthcoming hard freezes. Then we turned off the outside water and drained the hose bibs too. Yet with temperatures last week back in the 60s with low to mid-30s at night, I’m sure I will have to irrigate again soon.

For the week ending October 17, initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 8,734 down 230 claims, or 2.6 percent, compared to last week’s total of 8,964 claims, according to finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR).

Through the week ending October 17, there have been 728,045 initial claims filed in 2020, 706,393 of which have been filed since the week ending March 14.
