Welcome to October: Events and happenings Tuesday around Carson City

Heading into the first day of October 2019, events around the capital city include a morning walk, evening hike and a bike ride with Muscle Powered, a historic talk about Frank Sinatra's gaming license at Lake Tahoe, a "Think Pink" breast cancer awareness event at Red's Old 395 Grill, a showing of the film classic "Charade" at the Brewery Arts Center and more.

Here's what's happening Tuesday:

— Care mobile dental services for children offered at CC Menley in Gardnerville. 8 a.m. The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile, which provides oral healthcare to children in northern Nevada, will make stops at schools in Carson Valley and Carson City, Oct. 1-3. Tuesday's stop is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at CC Menley Elementary, 1446 Muir Drive, Gardnerville. Wednesday, the mobile is in Carson City from 7:30 a.m to 5:30 p.m. Carson High School, 1111, North Saliman Road, Carson City and returns Thursday, Oct. 3, 7:30 a.m. to noon, Empire Elementary School, 1260 Monte Rosa Drive, Carson City. Run through the Nevada Health Centers, staff aboard the Ronald McDonald mobile center focuses on treatment, education, prevention and advocacy to children. The Care Mobile is fully staffed with a dentist, dental assistants and office assistants. Services provided include: Restorative and preventive care, exams, cleanings, sealants, fluoride treatments, fillings, extractions, x-rays, and oral health education. — Muscle Powered Tuesday Morning Walk at Wetlands Multi-Use Path. 9 a.m. Join Muscle Powered for a free, guided group walk, hike, or ride around Carson City. Muscle Powered is a local non-profit organization that promotes walking, hiking, biking and trail building. A schedule of all upcoming activities and events can be found at www.musclepowered.org/calendar. Tuesday's walk is the Wetlands Multi-Use Path, North. Meet in open dirt area near the new Nevada Humane Society on Airport Road. Morning walks start at 9 a.m. and are 1 to 2 miles with duration of 1 hour with usually negligible elevation gain, and frequently on paved or smooth paths. — Capital City Arts Initiative Presents: Constellation. 8 a.m. The Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) presents its exhibition, Constellation. Nine students from the University of Nevada Reno’s Bachelor of Fine Arts program have work in the exhibit. The free exhibition is available to the public now through Dec. 10, 2019 on Mondays – Fridays, 8:00 a.m. – noon and 1:00-4:00 p.m. The artists include Rachael Blizzard, Tessa Clawson, Josh Galarza, Robert Ibarra, Sandra Kramp, Carla Miller, Cesar Piedra, Shara Sinatra, and Amber Skilling. — Nevada Artists Association Art Gallery Autumn Membership Show, now through Oct. 18. Enjoy artwork from our member artists. Membership has risen to nearly 150 local artists during our 40th year operating as a gallery. The Autumn Membership show runs from Sept. 8 to Oct. 18 at Nevada Artists Association Art Gallery at 449 W. King Street in Carson City. Open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays. Also, save the date, Nov. 3 we will be hosting our 40th Anniversary Celebration on location at the Gallery, 2-4 p.m. Please join us in marking this historical occasion.

— Frank Sinatra's License Revoked by Gaming Board subject of talk at RPEN. 2 p.m. The public is welcome to the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Dr., from 2:00 to 3:00 pm for a talk by Nevada Appeal columnist Guy Farmer on the subject of "the Nevada Gaming Control Board's revoking Frank Sinatra's gaming license". The talk is sponsored by the Carson City branch of RPEN (Representing Public Employees of Nevada) as part of their first Tuesday monthly meeting programs. RPEN protects retiree PERS and PEBP benefits.

— 18th 'Think Pink' breast cancer awareness event returns to Carson City's Red's Old 395 Grill. 5 p.m. Carson Tahoe Health will celebrate its 18th annual Think Pink kick-off for breast cancer awareness on Tuesday, Oct. 1. Red’s Old 395 Grill in Carson City will once again host the event. The event is free to attend and individuals wearing a Carson Tahoe Think Pink T-shirt, the current one or from any year, will receive free appetizers courtesy of Red’s. Short-sleeved t-shirts can be purchased for a $10 suggested donation and long-sleeved for $15 at various CTH locations and at the event. 100 percent of proceeds from all Think Pink T-shirts, specialty drinks, and raffle sales will go to the Carson Tahoe Foundation for local breast cancer education and support. The event runs from 5 to 7 p.m. at Red's Old 395 Grill is located at 1055 S Carson St.

— Muscle Powered Evening Hike: Mexican Ditch. 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Meet at Moffat Open Space Parking, 4100 Hells Bells Road, Carson City. Please bring a flashlight and headlamp! Evening hikes are usually 1 1/2 hours or more duration and are 4-6 miles in length. If it is raining, snowing, or air quality is unsafe due to smoke, hikes will be cancelled. — Muscle Powered Ladies Mountain Bike Ride. 5:30 p.m. Join Muscle Powered for a free, guided group walk, hike, or ride to enjoy Nevada outdoors around Carson City. Meetup at Foothill Drive just off of N Winnie Lane. Rides start at 5:30 PM and are open to all skill levels. All riders must carry water and have a mountain bike in safe working condition, helmet, closed toed shoes, spare tube, pump and tools to change a flat tire. — Tuesday night archery shoots return to Carson City's Centennial Park Archery Range. 5:30 p.m. Every Tuesday evening, 5:30 to dusk, the Clear Creek Bowmen host its Tuesday Night Archery Shoots at the Centennial Park Archery Range in Carson City. Both traditional and 3D targets are available. The target range is open shooting for use at no cost. There is a $5 fee (kids 17 and under are free) to shoot the 3D animal targets. We have archery equipment, volunteers and instructors to get you started. Come on out and join us. It’s a great way to experience the world of archery. Open to all ages. — Parents of Addicted Loved Ones hold meetings Tuesday evenings. 6 p.m. PAL provides education and support, at no cost, for family members (over 18) trying to save a son, daughter or family member from addiction to alcohol or drugs. By attending our meetings on Tuesdays, 6 p.m. at Partnership Carson City office at 1925 N Carson City St., you will give and receive support from others who are facing the same challenges you are.

— Empty Bowls, Open Studio. 6 to 8:30 p.m. Create an empty bowl to donate to charity, instruction will be offered to create and paint a bowl or create something on our own during open studio session. Open studio time at Ogres-Holm Pottery is free of charge and open to the public. 1215 South Carson Street.

— Carson City Classic Cinema Club presents 1963's "Charade." 6 p.m. Audrey Hepburn stars as a woman who is pursued by several men who want a fortune that her murdered husband had stolen. Romance and suspense ensue when Cary Grant shows up, but who can she trust? General admission $4; free for students and members. Trivia and intro begin at 6:30p; film at 7:00pm. Doors open at 6 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall - 511 W. King Street. New this year, Wired Wednesday Digital Artists will present a brief film-making discussion prior to our films, beginning at 6:00p. This month's topic - Scary make-up and Carson Creepy Short Film Competition announcements.
